2 General safety guidelines Heated panes of glass must be installed by specially trained personnel only. The manufacturer does not accept liability for any damage caused by incorrect installation or initial operation. The mains power supply must be switched off prior to installation, so as to ensure that the connector lead is not live. is only suitable for use within the installation area. must not be installed on any surface which is moist or electrically conductive. Leads and sockets must not be damaged. Prior to initial operation, the correct installation of the panes of glass should be checked. Manufacturer s voltage and power rating data must be adhered to when connecting the heated glass to the mains. Defective panes of glass must be switched off immediately and replaced with heated glass of the same type, power rating and voltage (see label). When cleaning the heated glass, ensure that that no moisture is allowed to enter the connector elements or any parts which conduct electricity (risk of shorting the circuit). is not fitted with an overload protection device or thermocouple and is not, therefore, designed to switch off by itself. Extreme variances in temperature should be avoided as this may cause the heated pane of glass to break spontaneously. 3 Technical specifications General information - The thicker the pane of glass, the longer it will take in order for the surface of the glass to attain its final temperature. - is connected to the mains power supply by means of sockets or cable connections. - Multi-paned superstructures and sample panes of glass are available on request further to prior technical clarification with the manufacturer. - heats up continuously with a range from condensation-free to deicing. Heated laminated safety glass (LSG) Heated laminated safety glass consists of two panes of float glass or toughened safety glass interlaid with one or more films of polyvinyl butyral (PVB). The heating wires are embedded in the PVB films. 8 Operation and monitoring The heated glass is operated via a control unit that is to be installed on site. The panes of glass are not fitted with thermocouples and can therefore not switch off by themselves. Decommissioning - In the event of a pane of glass breaking or a connector cable or socket becoming damaged, these should be taken out of service immediately. Maintenance - There are no time-related maintenance requirements. Troubleshooting - There are no fault finding procedures in place. Removal - The mains power supply should be switched off prior to removing the heated glass, so as to ensure that the connector cable is not live. Repairs - There are no provisions for repair. Regulations - Users should comply with all relevant current guidelines issued by the regulatory authority and the German Electrotechnical Society (VDE). TI 007E Version: 03/2011 Page 8 of 13

9 Composition / components types of socket Installation / type 1 connection system Technical specifications: length: width: height: 38 mm 25 mm ~ 20 mm max. 16 Amps continuous current Type 1 socket - The socket consists of a 2 pole junction box and a cover which screws on. Connector leads with a diameter of up to 3mm can be used. - The connection is made via a 2 pole junction box that is fixed securely onto the glass. - Connector leads should be tin-coated prior to being connected up, further to which the cable lugs can then be attached to the connector leads. They are easy to fit using the two threaded screws M4. Tighten by screwing in nut M6. - If screws (contacts) are not tightened adequately, this may lead to sparking, which in turn may cause the terminals to become charred and increase the risk of fire. - When unscrewing the cover, ensure that the terminal lugs in the junction box do not come into contact with one other. This would result in the circuit being shorted. - Large amounts of spare cable within the casing should be avoided, as this may cause unintentional cable connections or cable breakage. The screw-on cover is not suitable for providing strain relief for the cable. This should be arranged separately. TI 007E Version: 03/2011 Page 9 of 13

10 - Installation / type 3 connection system Technical specifications: length: ~ 52 mm width: ~ 50 mm height: ~ 35 mm (dimensions not including the cover) Length including the cover between 76 mm and 82 mm Type 3 socket - The socket consists of a casing with a cover but does not contain any internal connector fittings. - The socket is individually designed in consultation with the customer. - Any junction box as required is included in the delivery. - Type and shape are decided after consulting with the customer. - The clamping area will accommodate a diameter of between 3 mm and 10.5 mm. - Other connections may be available on request. - Cables are connected to the interior of the box via the opening through the PG screw fitting. The cover is screwed on to the casing, which in turn is fixed securely to the glass. - The connector lead is first fed through the PG screw fitting. Contacts with the relevant terminals are then made after consulting with the customer. Badly installed contacts may lead to sparking. This may cause the terminals to become charred, which in turn increases the risk of fire. - When screwing on the cover, ensure that the terminal lugs and any other electrically conductive parts of the contacts within the junction box and the interior of the casing do not come into contact with one other, as this will result in the circuit being shorted. - One all contacts have been made, the PG screws can be adjusted to suit the wire diameter of the connector lead. The screw thread should then be tightened until the o- ring seal is flush with the cable and both are tightly linked. Large amounts of spare cable within the casing should be avoided, as this may cause unintentional cable connections or cable breakage.
