1 Introduction / Function / Approvals Introduction Function The UWT-LOT is an electromechanic level measuring instrument for continuous measuring of levels heights or volumes in hoppers, silos or tanks. It is used for monitoring the level in applications such as - powders - small grain bulk goods - coarse grain bulk goods Features - Suitable for most types of bulk goods - Resistant to: Dielectricity and conductivity of the bulk good Dust in the silo Changes in moisture of the product Products that are prone to sticking - No mechanical loading on the silo roof, the sensor weight only comes into contact with the surface of the material. - Easy installation and commissioning - High-tech measurement, easy to understand - Very accurate measurement - Output 0/-0mA - Range of measurement Rope version 0m (0ft) (on request up to 0m (0ft) possible) Tape version m (ft), Overall height of the silo m 0ft) - Approval for use in Hazardous Areas category 1/ D (zone 0/1) - Micro processor controlled measurement with intelligent monitoring - Internal tape cleaner for difficult materials - Different sensor weights, suitable for every application - Robust die cast housing, protection class IP UWT - LOT level measurement systems have withstood the test of time in various industries such as - Chemical industries - Food industry - Building materials industry - Plastics industry The UWT - LOT is mounted on the top of the silo. A sensor weight is wound down into the silo. It is mounted at the end of a rope or tape which is wound on a motor driven roller. Upon contact with material, the motor changes the winding direction and the sensor weight is wound back to the upper stop position. The unit is divided into two independently sealed chambers (tape chamber and electronic chamber). Only the tape chamber is in contact with the inside of the silo during measurement. If the sensor weight is in the upper stop position, it seals the opening between the unit and the silo. Pulses are generated during downward movement and the number of pulses can be processed directly by - a PLC (Programmable logic controller) or - a counter (see chapter "Display / Evaluation"). 0/-0mA output: The pulses are internally converted into an analogue current signal. The current signal can be adjusted according to the application which means that a volumetric signal based on the silo geometry is possible. The current signal is updated, when the sensor weight cimes into contact with the material. The measurement results from an external signal (contact or V DC). For automatic starting there is an integrated timer. The measurement is controlled by a microprocessor. A comparison between the distance the weight moves downwards, and the distance the weight moves upwards, is done. When there is a discrepancy a signal output is activated. This guarantees, that the sensor weight is always in the upper stop position. Approvals For the Lot, the approvals for Hazardous Locations (dust explosion) category 1/ D (zone 0/1) based on directive //EG are available. CE EMC EN -A1 General purpose EN -1 page G gi0

Technical data Dimensions For detailed dimensions of UWT - LOT see price list (pages P1 - P). fl ange dimensions similar to DN 0 PN1 1 Sensor weight must not go into the socket! The socket pipe prevents the sensor weight from colliding with the socket edges during upward movement of the weight. The lifetime of the rope is increased, due to less loading on the rope. Version with large socket pipe is available. Dimensions silo fl ange Socket Socket pipe Sensor weight Folding cover sensor weight If the sensor weight is used for measuring very light and loose bulk material, there is a risk that it could descend into the product. This can be prevented by using the folding cover which has a large surface area. The folding cover can be folded to fi t through the mounting socket DN0. Pin for sensor weight The sensor weight can be equipped with a pin Ømm (Ø0, ), which prevents the sensor weight from sliding on the bulk material. gi0 page G

Timing interval between two measurements can be adjusted. The timer will be started: - if the sensor weight is at the upper stop position after a measurement. - after external measurement start terminal // - after linking of the terminals / (measurement interruption when fi lling) Position off causes no automatic measurement start. For automatic measurement at a predetermined time of day, a start unit connected to terminals // is necessary. To avoid needless wear and tear, the unit should not be started more than necessary. Running mode ma 0 ma Adjustment normal The sensor weight returns to the upper stop polition after every mesurement. Adjustment short (Only possible in case of use of the 0/-0mA output). The sensor weight stops one meter above material level after it has touched the material. This reduces the wear and the measurement time. Every 0 measurements the sensor weight moves back to the upper stop position to adjust the measurement value. Then it moves back to the position it was before. ATTENTION running mode short 1. To avoid the burying of the sensor weight during the fi lling of the silo, the function measurement interrupt in case of fi lling (terminals /, see page G) must be used. Before the fi lling starts, the sensor weight must be in the upper stop position.. The sensor weight must not hang in the fl ow of incoming material. Manual control Push + button: The motor moves the sensor weight upwards while the button is pushed. Push - button: The motor moves the sensor weight downwards while the button is pushed. CAUTION: Avoid the sensor weight reaching the outlet position of the silo. page G gi0

Safety instructions / Mounting Safety instructions Mounting 1 - Installation, maintenance and commissioning must be carried out only by qualifi ed technical personnel. - For terminal connection of the device, the local regulations or VDE00 (Regulations of German electrotechnical Engineers) must be observed. - Use a fuse for the supply voltage (max. A). - Provide protection for relay contacts and output transistors to protect the device against inductive load surges. - Compare the supply voltage applied with the specifi cations given on the name plate before switching the device on. - Make sure that not more than mm (0.1 ) of the pigtails are bared (danger of contact with live parts). - Make sure that the boots for protecting cable terminations are not longer than mm (0.1 ) (danger of contact with live parts). - Make sure that the screwed cable gland safely seals the cable and that it is tight (danger of water intrusion). - A voltage-disconnecting switch must be provided near the device. - In the case of a defect, the distribution voltage must automatically be cut off by a RCCB protection switch so as to protect the user of the device from indirect contact with dangerous electric tensions. - In the case of non-qualifi ed maintenance or handling, the safety of the device cannot be guaranteed. - Switch off the supply voltage before opening the device. - Before opening the lid ensure, that no dust deposits or clouds are present. The unit is mounted vertically with the fl ange on the silo. Avoid the sensor weight catching on the socket which could damage the rope. The mounting position must be chosen so: - built ups that might fall down so not damage the sensor weight or the rope. Ensure proper distance from silo wall. - fi lling of the silo might cover the sensor weight with material (prevent measuring during fi lling or observe proper distance to infeed). - upward and downward movement of the sensor weight must not be obstructed, even if the weight oscillates; observe proper distance to stanchions and built-in fi ttings The electrical connections are made in accordance with the connection diagram. Make sure, that the cable in the screwed cable gland is sealed tightly. Do up both lids of the housing tightly, to prevent water enterint the housing. When the unit is used outdoors, use of the weather protection cover is recommended to protect the unit against moisture and temperature extremes. There must be at least 00mm (. ) space for the sensor weight to move down in case of a full silo. Observe the lower edge of the sensor weight at "upper stop position" (dimensions see page G). Special safety instructions for the use in hazardous areas (dust explosion) at 1/ D (zone 0/1) see page G1. Commissioning Warning: In the case of non-qualified maintenance or handling, the safety of the device cannot be guaranteed. 1. Connect the unit with supply voltage, evaluation units and starting units (see page G).. Cable conduit fi ttings, which are not used, must be sealed with a closing element.. Compare supply voltage and frequency with the specifi cations on the type plate.. Turn on the supply voltage. The sensor weight will move into the upper steop position automatically.. Adjust the parameters (see pages G and G).. The unit is now ready for use. Measuring can begin. Socket Sensorweight Cornices Distance gi0 page G

1 Interface measurement with the rope version Function It is possible to measure solid matter in water (interface measurement) usch as mud, sand, sediment etc using the. This is made possible by using a special weight that can be adjusted to the required weight for the interface. Additionally an adjustment screw on the underside of the housing is for fi ne tuning. Together these two adjustments mean that the can be set to the exact level of the interface. The sensor weight has been specially developed for interface applications and has a number of metal and plastic discs which can be inserted into the core of the weight, so that the weight sits on the interface level. The rope is plastic coated, to prevent corrosion. All parts of the SLS that come into contact with the material are either made of stainless steel or are specially laquered. Adjustment 1. Coarse adjustment After mounting and wiring of the, the instrument, the sensor weight must be lowered into the liquied in manual mode (see page G) The weight must not fl oat. This can be checked mechanically by looking at the pulley arm. If the weight is fl oats when it reaches the liquid, then the pulley arm will move briefl y upwards. The sensor weight then needs to be made heavier by replacing one or more of the plastic discs with stainless steel discs. This is achieved by unscrewing the lid of the sensor weight and swopping the plastic discs with stainless steel discs. It is important that the sensor weight is completely fi lled with discs, otherwise the trapped air could provide too much buoyancy. After the course adjustment, then the fi ne adjustment can be carried out. Mechanical chamber Pulley arm sensor weightt stainless steel and plastic discs. Fine adjustment: The fi ne adjustment is made using the screw adjustment on the underside of the housing. The following adjustments can be made (when looking at the bottom of the housing) Folgende Einstellung kann mit Gehäuseansicht von unten durchgeführt werden: o Screw anti clockwise sensor weight becomes more sensitive ie "lighter" o Screw clockwise sensor weight becomes less sensitive ie "heavier" Lid Fine adjustment screw Cable glands page G gi0

Error codes Switch off the supply voltage and ensure, that it can not be switched on again, before repairs are completed Error code Possible reason Performance of the device Solutions Error code Error code Internal pulse sensors are not identifi ed by the software Rope/tape break. Motor blocked or broken. The motor stops. When the pulse sensors can be identifi ed again, the sensor weight moves to the upper stop position. The motor stops. This code is displayed: when error code occurs and minutes have elapsed and the sensor weight has not reached the upper stop position. Connect the internal plug for the pulse sensor. Repair the tape break (see page G/G1). Look for the reason of motor blocking. 1 Error code No pulses come from the return pulley. Return pulley moves too heavily. Motor defect. The motor moves the sensor weight upwards, until it reaches the upper stop position. Repair the stiff movement of the return pulley. Change motor. Error code Sensor weight buried or jammed. The motor moves seconds upwards, then it waits for seconds. After that the motor moves shortly downwards and then upwards again. If the sensor weight is still jammed, this cycle repeats times. After that the delay time will be increased to one hour. Release the sensor weight. Check that the sensor weight can move freely. Error code Supply voltage too low. Adjust to correct supply voltage. Error code Sensor weight blocked in "upper stop position" or distance sensor weight < 00mm (. ) The unit tries to start times. If the sensor weight is not able to be release, the error code is displayed. (The signal output indicates no error.) Release sensor weight. Increase the min. moving distance to > 00mm (. ) Error code Service interval See chapter "service interval" page G By pushing the RUN button an error code shown on the display can be canceled. (not acive when malfunction) Counting pule LEDs Reset pulse Operation/ malfunction Upper stop position Fuse F1.A Internal plug for pulse sensors DISPLAY Control of the measurement The device compares the distance of downwards movement of the sensor weight (until it reaches the surface of the bulk good) with the distance of upwards movement, until it reaches the upper stop position. When the values are different, this is an indication of a buried or jammed sensor weight. Furthermore, the pulses generated by the return pulley during the measurement are monitored. When there are missing or too irregular pulses this indicates that the return pulley moves too heavily or that the motor is blocked. Returnpulley Upper stop position" Sensor weight gi0 page G

1 Maintenance / Service interval Maintenance The UWT- LOT measuring device features a high degree of functional reliability and it requires virtually no maintenance during normal operation. However, it is recommended that the following checks arer regularly carried out. Open the rope-/tape chamber lid. Remove any excess material in the rope-/tape chamber. Check the rope-/tape for wear and tear. Do up the rope-/tape chamber lid tightly. If the rope-/tape is worn or torn, it must be changed (possibly shortened). Available spare parts are: - loose rope - rope-/tape roller (with 0m (.ft) rope or m (.ft) tape) - mounting set for sensor weight - sensor weights Rope/tape chamber Rope/tape roller Rope/ tape Sensor weight Service interval (Error code ) Error code is created automatically after the following number of measurements. Rope version: Tape version: To further guarantee faultless performance, it is strongly recommended to change the rope/tape (see pages G or G1). Rope/Tape durability Number of measurements Rope version approx Tape version approx These values refer to lifetime tests without material infl uence. The sensor weight meets an incline surface, so that an oscillating movement of the sensor weight is caused. Based on these values, the following graph has been produced. When the message appears, the following will occur: - The malfunction relay (terminal 1/1) indicates error. - The message Error appears on the display. Following situation stays, until the message is cancelled with the RUN -button: - Measurements can be resumed. - The malfunction relay (terminal 1/1) still indicates error. - The internal timer does not work. - The message Error remains on the display. - The internal counter, which counts the number of measurements, does not work. When the message is canceled with the RUN -button, the next message will appear after another (0 000) measurements. Operating time in years Rope version Tape version Measurements per day page G gi0
