4 STEP 1 Locate Box 1 and Box 2. Note: For King, Cal King, and Split King models you will receive two (2) Box 1 and two (2) Box 2. Repeat Steps 1 13 for King, Cal King, and Split King models. 2 *Boxes clearly marked 1 STEP 2 Cut and remove plastic bands on Box 1. Exercise caution when using sharp tools. The danger of injury is possible if tools are not used properly. 4

5 STEP 3 Open Box 1 to reveal one (1) adjustable base deck assembly and (1) Setup/Owner guide. OwNER guide - 1 STEP 4 Remove protective plastic covering from adjustable deck assembly. 5

6 STEP 5 Unfold deck assembly. STEP 6 Position deck assembly bottom-side-up. tags at head end head head end identified on deck assembly 6

7 STEP 7 Cut plastic bands and open Box 2 (King, Cal King, and Split King models have (2) Box 2). Open hardware box and verify contents. Remove hand control from hardware box. Remove hardware box. Cut zipties and remove edge packing and mattress retainer. 8 STEP 8 Carefully remove steel base assembly from box. Match head end of base assembly (indicated by labels on both components) with head end of deck assembly. Position steel base assembly so four (4) side holes (2-left, 2-right) line up with holes in deck assembly. Insert bolts in diagonal fashion (numerical sequence shown in photo) using wrench included. Do not tighten. LEG SUPPORT ASSEMBLY connections (4) (1) (3) (2) CAUTION at least two people are recommended for handling and moving adjustable base STEP 9 Install leg support assemblies. a. Locate (2) leg support assembly connections (see above and below photos) at the foot end of the adjustable base (pre-installed hardware, shown below). b. Remove nylon insert locking nuts and outside bushings. Reinstall outside bushing (bushing installs only one way - see illustration below) and nylon insert locking nut. Do not tighten. Insert mounting bolts in flanges. 10 STEP 10 Tighten all eight (8) bolts in base assembly and leg support assemblies firmly. Tighten nylon insert locking nuts on leg support assemblies until snug (end of stud indented approximately 1/16 from outside edge of nylon insert - see photo below). 11 STEP 12 Your Sleep Number Adjustable Base comes with both 4 inch and 7 inch legs. Determine the desired height of your foundation and screw (4) legs into the base assembly. Optional: Insert (4) casters in ends of legs. Casters add 2½ inches to overall foundation height. note repeat steps 1 13 for king, cal king, and split king models before proceeding to step 14. STEP 13 Untie and extend out electrical power cord (2 cords for King, Cal King, and Split King models). For Full, Queen, and Split King models, carefully rotate adjustable base/s topside-up, omit Step 14 and proceed to Step

12 King and Cal King Bases Only STEP 14 Install dual DC connector cable (connects both bases for operation with one hand control). a. Carefully position both bases approximately 2 feet apart on edge, with underside of both bases facing inward. Be sure both bases are oriented the same way (heads together, foot ends together). Carefully rotate both bed bases from edge position toward each other to top-side-up position and align together to create the King or Cal King unit. Do not obstruct power or hand control cords. 14

16 STEP 17 Install mattress retainer. Insert into bushings and press down until horizontal section is firmly against deck assembly. STEP 18 Plug power cord into a working, grounded electrical outlet. Note: an electrical surge protection device is recommended (not included). Operate hand control to verify bed functions properly. 16

17 STEP 19 OPTIONAL: Install headboard brackets with wrench included in hardware box. a. Raise the head section of the bed (with hand control) to gain access to the bed base frame. b. Locate channel connector kit. On (1) side of the bed base frame, locate (2) holes for channel connector mounting. channel connector kit Queen, King, Cal King, & Split King base length mounting holes Full base length mounting holes (2) channel connector mounting holes 17

18 STEP 19 continued. c. Position channel connector so the flat side is flush against bed base frame. Attach channel connector to bed base frame using (2) 1½ inch long hex head bolts/nuts. (2) 1½ long hex head bolts and nuts note for beds with full base length, use inner mounting holes. For beds with Queen, king, cal king, or Split King base length, use outer mounting holes. queen, king, cal king, & split king base length mounting holes full base length mounting holes d. Using (2) 3 inch long carriage bolts/nuts, attach (1) headboard bracket channel to (1) channel connector. Hand tighten bolts/nuts (loosely) to allow adjustment of the headboard bracket channels. channel connector bracket channel (2) 3 long carriage bolts 18

19 STEP 19 continued. e. Attach (1) headboard bracket flange to one of the bracket channels with (2) 1 inch long hex head bolts/nuts. f. Repeat procedure to attach the other headboard bracket. 1.5 to 2 (2) 1 long hex head bolts and nuts headboard bracket flange slide bracket assemblies in or out to achieve position g. Slide headboard bracket assemblies (in or out) to achieve a distance of 1½ inches (38.1 mm) to 2 inches (50.8 mm) between the edge of the bed base and headboard bracket flange assemblies. 19

20 STEP 19 continued. h. Firmly tighten the 3 inch long carriage bolts of both headboard bracket channels. i. Measure the distance (center-to-center) between the mounting holes in the headboard. j. Measure the center-to-center distance between the mounting slots of the headboard bracket flanges. k. If bracket flange adjustment is required to accept the headboard, remove the 1 inch long hex head bolts and move flanges side-to-side for the adjustment. Reinstall bolts. Tighten all headboard mounting bolts. measure flange slots center-to-center to check headboard hole location remove 1 inch long hex head bolts and relocate flanges to acheive center-to-center distance required for headboard mounting holes l. Install headboard. in order to avoid a person or pet being caught in the space referenced in adjacent figure while the bed is in motion, the bottom of the headboard cross member must be positioned so that there is no more than 3 inches (76.2mm) between the headboard and the top of the mattress. do not exceed 3 inches (76.2mm). failure to follow this instruction could result in serious personal injury or death. 3 inches MAX. Headboard cross member location must not exceed 3 inches (76.2mm) from the top of the mattress. 20

22 troubleshooting In the event the Sleep Number Adjustable Base fails to operate, investigate the symptoms and possible solutions provided in the chart below: symptom No features of the adjustable bed will activate. Head or foot section will elevate, but will not return to the horizontal (flat) position. solution Verify power cord is plugged into a working, grounded electrical outlet. A grounded, electrical surge protection device is recommended. Test outlet by plugging in another working appliance. Unplug power cord, wait 30 seconds and plug in to reset electronic components. Electrical circuit breaker may be tripped. Check electrical service breaker box to verify. Defective surge protection device. Bed mechanism may be obstructed. Elevate bed and check for obstruction. Remove obstruction. Head section may be too close to the wall. 22

23 warranty Leggett & Platt, Incorporated ( L&P ) warrants this adjustable bed to the consumer who is the original purchaser (the purchaser ), subject to the terms and conditions set forth herein. This warranty begins on the warranty commencement date which is the date of purchase for new unused beds and the date of manufacture for beds that have been used as floor or display models. Thus, on a floor model bed, the warranty is a portion of the limited 20 year warranty. full 2 year warranty This adjustable bed is warranted against defects in the workmanship or materials for a period of two (2) years from the warranty commencement date. Upon notice during the first two (2) years after the warranty commencement date, L&P will repair or replace (at no cost to the purchaser) any defective adjustable bed part, and L&P will pay all authorized labor and transportation costs associated with the repair or replacement of any parts found to be defective. 5 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY During the third through the fifth year from the warranty commencement date, upon receipt of notice, L&P will replace any adjustable bed part found to be defective. This limited five (5) year warranty shall not apply unless the defective part is returned to L&P within ten (10) days of purchaser s receipt of the replacement part. Purchaser shall pay all service and transportation costs related to the replacement of the defective part. 20 year LIMITED WARRANTY Upon notice during the sixth year through the twentieth year from the warranty commencement date, L&P will replace, upon terms and conditions set forth in this paragraph, any mechanical bed part found to be defective. Electronics, electrical components, drive motors and massage motors are excluded. This limited twenty (20) year warranty shall not apply unless the defective part is returned to L&P within ten (10) days of purchaser s receipt of the replacement part. In years 6-20, purchaser shall pay all service and transportation costs related to the replacement of the defective part. ADDITIONAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS This warranty does not apply; (a) to any damage caused by the purchaser; (b) if there has been any repair or replacement of adjustable bed parts by an unauthorized person; (c) if the adjustable bed has been mishandled (whether in transit or by other means), subjected to physical or electrical abuse or misuse, or otherwise operated in any manner inconsistent with the operation and maintenance procedures outlined in this document and this warranty; (d) to damage to mattresses, fabric, cables, electrical cords or items supplied by dealers. Contact the dealer for warranty information on these items; (e) if there has been any modification of the adjustable bed without prior written consent by L&P; (f) to costs for unnecessary service calls, including costs for in-home service calls solely for the purpose of educating the consumer about the adjustable bed or finding an unsatisfactory power connection; (g) if the recommended weight restriction is not followed (refer to advisory section), the warranty will be void. 24 warranty Repairs to or replacement of an adjustable bed or its components under the terms of this limited warranty will apply to the original warranty period and will not serve to extend such period. The decision to repair or to replace defective parts under this warranty shall be made, or cause to be made, by L&P at its option and in its sole discretion. Repair or replacement shall be the sole remedy of the purchaser. There shall be no liability on the part of l&p for any special, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages or for any other damage, claim, or loss not expressly covered by the terms of this warranty. This limited warranty does not include reimbursement for inconvenience, removal, installation, setup time, loss of use, shipping, or any other costs or expenses. Leggett & Platt or its service technicians shall not be responsible for moving furniture or any other items not attached to the adjustable bed in order to perform service on the adjustable bed. It is the sole responsibility of the purchaser to provide adequate space and accessibility to the adjustable bed. In the event that the technician is unable to perform service due to lack of accessibility, the service call will be billed to the purchaser and the service will have to be rescheduled. L&P makes no other warranty whatever, express or implied, and all implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose are disclaimed by L&P and excluded from this agreement. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to every purchaser. This warranty gives the purchaser specific legal rights, and the purchaser may also have other rights, which may vary from state to state. When moving the Sleep Number Adjustable Base, be careful not to damage the power cord. 13. Do not use a power cord or cable that shows cracks or abrasion damage along its length or at either end. 14. Do not use the Sleep Number Adjustable Base in an area of high humidity or water usage. If so, a fault, electrical shock, or fire may occur. 15. Do not use the Sleep Number Adjustable Base in an area where inflammable gas and/or combustible substances are placed. If so, fire or explosion may occur. 16. Do not overload AC outlets with power cords. If so, fire may occur. 17. Make sure to disconnect all power cords before relocating the Sleep Number Adjustable Base. If not, a malfunction of the system, an electric shock and/or fire may occur. 18. Do not put any heavy objects on a power cord. Do not install the Sleep Number Adjustable Base in a dirty or dusty environment. Insert the plug of a power cord into an AC outlet securely. Remove any dust adhering to AC outlets and the plugs of power cords. Should any dust remain adhering to an AC outlet and/or plug, fire may occur. 21. Do not connect the plug of a power cord to an AC outlet with a wet hand. If so, you may be electrically shocked. 22. Any power cord shall be routed with sufficient margin to avoid excess strain from being applied to the plugs of the power cord or the power cord itself. Provide sufficient margins for the cables and power cords connected to the Sleep Number Adjustable Base so that entanglement is not an issue. Avoid placing unnecessary strain on power plugs. 23. Any cable or power cord shall be routed to avoid abrasion damage alongs its length or at either end of the power cord. Repair or replace immediately all power cords that have become frayed or otherwise damaged. 24. Always unplug during an electrical storm. 25. Unplug when not in use for extended amount of time. 26. Do not install the Sleep Number Adjustable Base and the power cords in an area with direct sunshine or near any apparatus generating heat such as a heater. If so, damage may occur. Further, the insulating coating of the power cord may be melted causing fire or electric shock to occur. Remove packaging materials. IMPORTANT: Do not remove any permanent instruction labels or the data labels on your Sleep Number Adjustable Base. If you find any labels totally/partially removed or illegible due to damage, contact your sales representative or Customer Service. Do not install the Sleep Number Adjustable Base in an unsafe or unstable manner. If so, damage may occur to the unit and/or you may be personally injured. Select a location where the Sleep Number Adjustable Base can be connected to the AC outlet or surge protector (surge protector is recommended, not supplied) by using the attached power cord, without using an extension cord. warranty warning Do not open any control boxes, motors or hand control devices. The product warranty will be void if these components are tampered with. Do not attempt to alter component wiring or adjust or modify the structure of the product in any way or the warranty will be void. PRODUCT RATINGS The bed lift motors are not designed for continuous use. Reliable operation and full life expectancy will be realized as long as the lift motors do not operate any more than five (5) minutes over a thirty (30) minute period, or approximately 15% duty cycle. Note: massage equipped beds are not designed for continuous, extended massage operation. Massage systems are rated for a maximum of 2 hours of use within any 6 hour period. Any attempt to circumvent or exceed product ratings will shorten the life expectancy of the product and may void the warranty. The recommended weight restrictions for Sleep Number Adjustable Bases are as follows: DC equipped lb (204 kg) all sizes. The bed will structurally support the recommended weights distributed evenly across the head and foot sections. This product is not designed to support or lift this amount in the head or foot sections alone. Note: exceeding the recommended weight restrictions could damage the adjustable bed and void the warranty. For best performance, consumers should enter and exit the adjustable bed with the bed in the flat (horizontal) position. DO NOT SIT ON THE HEAD OR FOOT SECTIONs WHILE IN THE RAISED POSITION. operating information After bed assembly is completed, operate hand control to ensure proper bed functions. Keep moving parts free of obstruction during bed operation (including sheets, clothing, tubing, wiring, and products using electric power cords). Distribute body weight evenly over bed surface. Do not place entire weight on raised or foot sections of the bed, including during repositioning and entering or exiting bed. NOTE never operate if the unit has a damaged cord or plug. If plug is not working properly, call qualified service personnel for examination and repair. Keep all cords away from heated or hot surfaces such as space heaters or heating ducts. If it should malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This product is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. DANGER improper connection of the equipmentgrounding conductor can result in a risk of electrical shock. check with a qualified electrician or service representative if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded. do not modify the plug provided with the product - if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. This product is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit, and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in sketch A. A temporary adapter that looks like the adapter in sketches B and C are able to be used to connect this plug to a 2-pole receptacle as shown in sketch B if a properly grounded outlet is not available. The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet (sketch A) can be installed by a qualified electrician. The green colored rigid ear, lug, or the like extending from the adapter must be connected to a permanent ground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover. Whenever the adapter is used, it must be held in place by a metal screw. Be careful not to pinch, crimp or flatten power cord while product is in use. Keep power cord free of moving mechanisms. Unplug power cord when adjustable base is in storage. Electrical rating Electrical components are rated for 110/120 voltage, 60Hz, 5.0 amp. HOSPITAL use DISCLAIMER This bed is designed for household/ residential use only. It is not approved for hospital use and does not comply with hospital standards. Do not use this bed with tent type oxygen therapy equipment, or use near explosive gases. pacemaker warning This product produces a vibrating sensation. It is possible that individuals with heart-assist pacemakers may experience a sensation similar to exercise. Consult physician for complete information. Lubrication This product is designed to be maintenance free. The lift motors are permanently lubricated and sealed no additional lubrication is required. Do not apply lubricant to lift motor lead screws or any nylon nuts or the bed may inadvertently creep downward from the elevated position. locking caster safety feature This product is equipped with locking casters to prohibit the bed from movement. For best results, place rubber caster cups under locking casters when the bed is located on smooth or hard surface flooring it is possible for locking caster equipped beds to slide without the use of rubber caster cups. To activate locking casters, push down on the lock tab. To disengage the locking mechanism, push up on the lock tab (see illustration below). service requirements Service technicians are not responsible for moving furniture, removing headboards and footboards or any items required to perform maintenance on the adjustable bed.
