3 MAGNETIC PICKUP MODEL MS Gear Material A magnetic material of high magnetic permeability such as described in JIS SS400 is best suited. 2. Gear Shape A module 1-4 involute gear is best suited for this purpose. Large module, square and triangular gear shapes tend to produce a distorted waveform, which prevents accurate detection. The tooth width b should be greater than the pole piece diameter.(2.5mm) To accommodate movement of the gear along the rotating shaft, it is important to make the tooth width large enough to keep the gear from moving away from the pole piece above the gear. m = do z h 2.25 m = dk z+2 = p π 3. Installation of Gear and Pickup and Precautions! CAUTION 1. Magnetic pickup shall be installed while the gear is completely at a stand still. 2. The connecting cable (2 wire twisted pair, shielded cable AWG No. 16 to22 ) shall be prepared by the customer. Make sure that the connector pin No. A is for signal, No. B and No. C are for com. 2-1.Do not wire the cables together in high tension dusts. 2-2.Keep the unshielded portion of cables at connecting parts as short as possible. Connect the shielded wires to the COM terminal. 3. Choose the mounting position of the gear so as to minimize shaft vibration, eccentricity and fluctuations in the pickup gap. 4. If there is a possibility of the rotating shaft moving in the axial direction, take care that the pole piece center is not dislocated from the gear and the gap between the gear and the pole piece do not change. 5. Fix the pickup firmly to prevent it from vibrating or becoming dislocated. 6. Make sure that there is no magnetic or iron particles adhering to the surface of pickup or gear teeth. 7. If the gear itself becomes magnetized, undesired waveform distortion or voltage fluctuations may occur. 8. As shown in Fig.3, the peak value of the output voltage (Vpk-pk) changes by the gear module, gap width and detection frequency. Make sure that the end user receives the Instruction Manual delivered with this unit. 3. Please study contents of this manual thoroughly before installing or operating the equipment, and keep it handy for future reference. GENERAL The MS Series magnetic pickup consists of magnet, pole piece and detector coil as shown in Fig. 1. When a magnetic material crosses the pole piece in close approximation, the magnetic flux changes, thus causing the detector coil to generate an electric current. If, therefore, this magnetic pickup is installed close to a gear, it produces an electric signal with a frequency proportional to the revolution of the gear. 5 Warranty The warranty period for the delivered product shall be 3 years from the date of delivery from our factory. But the warranty period for the special order product and software shall be 1 year, and for the repairing parts shall be 6 months. In the event that the delivered product develops any defects within the warranty period for which Shinkawa Electric is liable, the defective part will be replaced or repaired in our factory at our own expense. In the event that an engineer needs to be dispatched for repair purposes during the warranty period, travel expenses for the said engineer will be changed in accordance with the above item. The cost of repair will be borne by Shinkawa Electric. However, the following are excluded from our warranty: (1) Any defects due to improper handling or operation by the user. (2) Any defects, the case of which is not attributable to Shinkawa Electric. (3) Any modifications or repairs made by others then Shinkawa Electric or persons commissioned by Shinkawa Electric. (4) Any handling, storage and operation under severe environmental conditions that exceed the design specifications. (5) Any defects due to fire, flood, earthquake, lightning and other Acts of God. (6) The consumables (7) Other defects considered not to be attributable to Shinkawa Electric. This warranty applies exclusively to the delivered product units. Shinkawa Electric will not be held liable for consequential damage caused either directly or indirectly through a defect of the delivered product. The warranty period and scope of machinery and equipment made by manufacturers other than Shinkawa Electric shall be in accordance with the conditions of the respective manufacturer, regardless of the provisions made above.
