5 Current Situation According to the current workshop manual, a rim repair is only allowed for paint damage on the surface (see pictures) Once the damage is in the base material (metal), repair is not allowed Insurance companies and customers would rather have the wheel repaired When vehicles are traded in or purchased, it is often incomprehensible for the Porsche Center whether rims were repaired or remanufactured by third parties contrary to the repair specifications Repair methods are not directly recognizable Repair instruction WM 076OIN is to be followed Creation Date: 12/06/2018 5

6 The development of Porsche alloy wheels sets the highest requirements on weight reduction and performance Porsche relies in the development of rims on direct cooperation with the manufacturers Porsche uses the flow-forming process to produce the rims in order to achieve the lowest wall thickness combined with maximum stability For a long time, the ET RTO directive prescribed a minimum of 11 mm for the outer rim flange. Porsche has always used 8.5mm The TÜV gives specifications for the repair of alloy wheels, which, however, are not applicable to Porsche due to the smaller dimensions of the rim flange due to weight and structure-optimized design of Porsche wheels. 9 Approaches To Detecting Improper Rim Repairs Paint thickness measurement Comparison of differences in color and structure in the paint or polished / diamond cut areas of the wheels with each other If the rims are diamond cut, any differences in the transition from the high-gloss area (visible or external spokes) to the spoke flank or the end of the diamond cut area may be evident.
