2 Overview of System Retail stores have a requirement for night time monitoring of the Domestic Water Supply. When flow is detected, during the hours the store is closed, the system shuts off this supply and flood damage is thereby prevented. System operation: Tie-in to EMS controller : The store EMS signals the panel to go into Open/Day mode or Closed/Night Mode on a daily basis. Power to the EMS relay in the panel puts the system in Closed/Night Mode. No power to the EMS relay puts the system onto Open/Day Mode. Dry contacts on Relay 2 and 3 allow Flow Alarm monitoring and Valve Status monitoring back to the EMS. 1. Day/Occupied : On power being supplied to the 2 pole main breaker the panel will go into the Open/Day mode. This is the default mode. The EMS relay coil in the panel is not receiving power from the EMS at this point The Main valve in the main domestic water supply line to the store interior is powered open. A Bypass valve in the 1 ½ bypass line is un-powered and is spring driven to the closed position. A green light indicates the Main Valve is fully open and power to the panel is connected. The Valve Status contact is open to indicate to the EMS that the Main Valve is open. 2. Night/Unoccupied: After store hours the local EMS signals the panel to go into Close/Away mode. The EMS relay coil in the panel is now receiving power from the EMS. The Main Valve is powered closed. The Bypass valve in the 1 ½ bypass line is powered open. This bypass line allows low volume water flow to the store. A yellow light indicates the Main Valve is fully closed. The Valve Status contact is closed to indicate to the EMS that the Main Valve is closed. The panel employs electrical interlocking relays to prevent any over-riding signal to be sent to the main valve during Night/Away mode.

3 Overview of System, cont. 3. Alarm mode: The Flow Sensor detects water flowing through the bypass line. The Time Delay Relay times out and closes a on-delay contact (adjustable 0-60 sec.) The Bypass Valve is de-energized allowing it to spring closed. The Main Valve remains closed. The water is now shut off completely. A Red light indicates an alarm condition. The Flow Alarm Status contact closes and the Valve Status contact remains closed. A dry contact, available for an additional alarm circuit, has now closed 4. To Reset A qualified person must go to the control panel and reset the system via a single Red button on the panel door. No remote reset is permitted. After reset the system returns to the previous EMS selected mode, Open/Day or Closed/Night. 5. To Test A qualified person may operate a Test toggle switch in the panel. In Test mode (ON) the panel is forced into closed/night mode. the operator can observe that that the Main valve is closed and the Bypass valve is open. Indicators on each valve show the position of the valve. In the Day/Open Mode the indicators show the main has opened and the Bypass is closed. Regular testing ensures the system is operating normally

5 Installing the Control Panel 1. Choose a suitable location to mount the panel. The connector cords are 12 long. 2. IMPORTANT SAFETY CAUTION: Pull the fuse holder open to disconnect panel from power source until ready to energize system. 3. Connect 120V supply voltage to the main 2 Pole fuse holder and install the fuses. To connect to the EMS system: 1. Connect 24Vac/dc power from the EMS to the blue terminals marked + and -. Power to these terminals will force the system into Night/Away mode. 2. Flow Alarm Indication connect to terminal 29 and 33 from EMS. A signal will flow to EMS when the relay operates, indicating there has been flow. 3. Valve Open/Close Status connect to terminal 35 and 39 from EMS. A signal will flow to EMS indicating open/closed position of main valve. 4. Second alarm signal connect to terminal 47 and 49. A signal will flow to an additional alarm indicator Notes: When the system is connected and energized (fuse holder closed) the Main Valve will open. When in the fully OPEN position the green light will serve to indicate the power is connected and the Open position of the Main valve. The Flow sensor switch is now powered but the bypass valve is closed, no flow detected.

8 Installing the Main Valve, Bypass Valve and Flow Sensor Install main valve in line with main water supply. Follow instructions provided with main valve. Install Belimo ball valve in 1 ½ bypass line. Install the flow sensor in the bypass line. A street fitting (1 ) and a Tee (1 1/2x1 ) are provided. This ensures the correct depth of the sensor into the bypass line. Plug the cords from the control panel into the main valve, bypass valve and flow sensor. These parts have been prewired to ensure the correct functioning of the system. These kits plug into the control panel on the previous page

9 Testing/Operating the System

10 Test Toggle Switch 1. The toggle switch mounted on the standoff plate must be in the OFF (normal mode) position for daytime operation, 2. The toggle switch in the ON position forces the system into Close/Night mode 3. Toggle to the ON position and observe the Main Valve and Bypass valve indicators. The Main Valve will close and the indicator will rotate to show Closed, the Bypass valve will rotate to position Toggle to the Off position and observe that the Main Valve opens and the Bypass valve closes. 5. The system is now in the Open/Day mode. Toggle switch shown in ON (Test) position

11 Day or Occupied Mode Condition: No Faults The Energy Management System sends a signal that the store is open for the day. 1. An open signal is sent to the Control Panel that commands the opening of the Main Valve. 2. As the Main valve totally opens a micro-switch inside of the Main valve energizes the OPEN/DAY Pilot Light. 3. Power is removed from the bypass valve and the valve closes (exercising the valve daily) 4. The Flow sensor switch is now powered but the bypass valve is closed, no flow detected.

12 Night or Unoccupied Mode Condition: No Faults The Energy Management System sends a signal that the store is closed for the night. 1. A close signal is sent to the Valve Controller that commands the closing of the Main Valve. 2. As the Main valve totally closes a micro-switch inside of the Main valve energizes the close indicator 3. A yellow pilot light illuminates. 4. The Bypass Valve is opened by the 120V actuator. 5. The flow sensing device monitors the Bypass Piping for any water flow. 6. A relay contact for the external monitoring of the Main Valve closes, indicating to the EMS that the Main Valve is closed.

13 Night or Unoccupied Mode Condition: Fault with Main Valve closed 1. The Sensing device detects water flow through the Bypass piping 2. This detection energizes a Time Delay Relay, and after 60 seconds (adjustable) of water flow the Time Delay Relay activates a lockout relay. 3. The lockout relay immediately signals a Fault Condition, closing both the Main Valve and the Bypass Valve and removes all external signals controlling both of the valves. 4. The EMS received a Fault indication.

14 Reset Condition: Fault with Main Valve closed Reset Button 1. After an on-site visual Inspection of the water piping has been confirmed, the fault has been corrected or there is no problems or breaks. 2. The reset button must be activated by a person on-site, to restore the normal operation of the Valve Controller. 3. When reset the bypass valve will re-open, if there is less than fault condition water flow.

15 Status Outputs Flow Alarm Indication connect to terminal 29 and 33 from EMS A signal will flow to EMS indicating there has been water flow. Valve Open/Close Status connect to terminal 35 and 39 from EMS. A signal will flow to EMS indicating open or closed position of main valve. Second alarm signal connect to terminal 47 and 49 A signal will flow to an additional alarm indicator.
