4 !! NOTE!! In addition to the Protective Guard, a SECOND safety feature has been factory installed and adjusted. This is a Proximity Switch (Item 3). See Figure 2. This Switch and the Red Palm Button Valve (Item 9) provides a SAFETY INTERLOCK, requiring the operator to use two (2) hands when actuating this machine, thus eliminating the possibility of PINCHING the operator while holding the cartridge in place during the Wiper Plunger installation. The Proximity Switch is mounted to a Bracket (Item 2) with two (2) each Screws, Flat Washers, and Hex Nuts (Item 77, 78, & 79). The Bracket is secured to the Column Assembly (Item 1) with a Clamp and Knurled Head Screw (Items 4 & 5). The design of the Bracket, in combination with the position and sensitivity adjustment of this Switch are critical to the operation of the 303 Machine. CAUTION DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF THESE SAFETY FEATURES BY ALTERING THE BRACKET OR BY ANY OTHER MEANS. SERIOUS INJURY MAY OCCUR.
5 1.7 Proximity Switch Sensitivity, though factory adjusted and set may require tweaking from time to time. If so, proceed as follows: With no detectable object in front of the Proximity Switch (Item 3), remove the M5 Screw from the rear of the Switch. (Save this screw). Underneath the M5 Screw is the Potentiometer adjusting screw. Turn it in a clockwise direction until the switch CLICKS on Next, position a detectable object (ie. the operator s hand), approximately 1/2 inch in front of the Proximity Switch. Turn the Potentiometer screw in a counterclockwise direction until the Switch CLICKS off If the difference in the number of adjusting turns between the ON position of and the OFF position of is more than 1-1/2 turns, a stable detection is obtained. If less than 1-1/2 turns, repeat & Re-install the M5 Screw. 1.8 Holding the Control SEMKIT Cartridge in place with one hand, loosen the two (2) Bolts (Item 64) holding the Plunger Funnel (Item 22 or 42). Allow the Plunger Funnel to slide down over the end of the Cartridge until the groove in the bottom of the funnel comes to rest on the Flange cap end. Make certain that the F cap end is completely seated into this groove. Retighten the two Bolts and remove the Control SEMKIT Cartridge. 1.9 Plug Power Cord (Item 32) into 110 VAC (Grounded) outlet and connect the Shop Air. Set the Shop Air pressure regulator at 120 PSI. Set the two (2) Pressure Regulators (Items 7 & 33), on the 303, at 50 PSI.
6 !! NOTE!! If 50 PSI does not allow for easy insertion of the Plunger, or positioning of the Dasher Rod, gradually increase the air pressure, on either of these two, (2) Regulators, until easy insertion is accomplished Insert the Control SEMKIT Cartridge into the bottom of the Plunger Funnel (Item 22 or 42). Push straight up on the cartridge, making certain that your hand is approximately in the middle of it. This will activate the Proximity Switch (Item 3) Depress the Red Palm Button (Item 9), this will actuate the Top cylinder (Item 18). Cartridge Supporter Cylinder (Item 35), and Bottom Cylinder (Item 28), all at the same time. Continue depressing the Red Palm Button, and with the other hand, loosen the two (2) Bolts (Item 64), holding the Top Cylinder Bracket (Item 20). Allow the Top Cylinder and Bracket to slide down until the Plunger Stuffer (Item 21 or 41) comes to rest on the Wiper Plunger inside of the SEMKIT Cartridge. Re-tighten the two (2) Bolts Continue depressing the Red Palm Button, and with the other hand loosen the two (2) Bolts (Item 64), holding the Bottom Cylinder Bracket (Item 27). Slide the Bottom Cylinder and Bracket up, until it makes contact with the Dasher Rod. Re-tighten the two (2) Bolts. For referenced item numbers in this procedure refer to the Top Assembly Drawings in the last two pages of this manual. THE MODEL 303 WIPER PLUNGER INSTALLATION MACHINE IS NOW READY FOR ASSEMBLING THE INJECTION SEMKIT CARTRIDGE.!! NOTE!! Minor adjustments to the Plunger, Dasher Rod and Air Cylinder speeds may be made as follows: 1) Plunger = lossen Jam Nut (Item 53), on the Plunger Stuffer (Item 22 or 42). Rotate the Plunger Stuffer as required. Make certain to re-tighten the Jam Nut before cycling the 303 Machine. 2) Dasher Rod = loosen the Nut on the Nesting Cup (Item 26). Rotate the Nesting Cup as required. Make certain to re-tighten the Nut before cycling the 303 Machine. 3) Air Cylinder Speeds = loosen the Set Screw in the side of the Knurled Knob on the Flow Control Valve (Item 19). Each Air Cylinder (Items 18,28, and 35) has a separate Flow Control Valve. Turn the Knurled Knob as required to increase or decrease the speed for that particular Air Cylinder. Make certain to re-tighten the Set Screw before cycling the 303 Machine.
