Introducton astewater from commercal ktchens s contamnated wth FGS (fats, ols and greases). The ntroducton of FGs and food solds nto the general dranage/sewage system (ether man sewage network or prvate treaent facltes) s detrmental to ts proper functon and has been shown to be a sgnfcant cause of blockages, restrctons and floodng. The FGI Grease nterceptor/separator range has been desgned to conform to both Buldng Regulatons Part and also BSEN 1825 the Brtsh Standard for Grease Separators/Interceptors. The FGI s desgn wll effectvely ntercept (FGS) fats, ols and greases and solds before they enter a wastewater dranage system n so supportng the effectveness of both the dranage system and the fnal treaent process. FGI nterceptors/separators are desgned for larger ktchens and restaurants as well as use n ndustral food processng applcatons and meet all the requrements of the relevant legslaton. hat sze nterceptor do I requre? The Nomnal Sze stpulated n EN1825 can be used to calculate the volume of the Interceptor requred. Mnmum surface area of Mnmum volume of Nomnal grease separaton zone grease separaton zone Volume Sze of the Separaton Chamber (m 2 ) (m 3 ) The above table shows that the mnmum volume requred for the grease separaton chamber s the Nomnal Sze multpled by 0.24 of a cubc metre whch s equal to 240 ltres. So for an NS 4 the mnmum grease separaton chamber would have to have a volume of 960 ltres and an NS7 would be1680 ltres etc. Volume of Sludge Trap The volume of sludge trap needs to be a mnmum of 100 x NS n ltres e. An NS4 nterceptor needs to have a sludge retenton volume of at least 400 ltres. Subsequently for Food Processng Plants, Abbators etc, where larger amounts of solds s expected, then the sludge trap needs to be at least 200 x NS n ltres, so an NS4 nterceptor would need to have a sludge chamber of at least 800 ltres. Desgn of Sludge Trap Mnmum volume of grease collecton area (m 3 ) NS 0.25 x NS 0.24 x NS 0.04 x NS The Sludge trap can be stuated ntegrally wthn a sngle stage Interceptor or as a separate unt stuated before the grease separaton trap/tank. All FGI unts have been desgned to retan the mnmum solds/sludge accordng to BSEN 1825. In the mddle secton of the FGI between the base sludge and suspended FGs the ppe s stuated. Cleaner md water wll dscharge at that pont from the unt. All fog nterceptors come suppled wth a ARGE 625mm lockable sealed access cover There s an opton to have a flow spltter attached (as shown above). Ths wll gve more even dstrbuton of suspended greases and ols at the top surface of the unt.

The flow spltter splts and dstrbutes the nfluent n separate drectons whch supports effectve ol and grease separaton. Extenson rsers are avalable for all the unts (as shown above). These accommodate the respectve access and access cover and can be cut to desred length wth a standard saw. e recommend no more than 1000mm of extenson s used va extenson rsers. For deeper nverts use prefabrcated concrete rngs or sectons fog nterceptors can be desgned specfcally for your applcaton. The Envronmental Protecton Act 1990 mposes a Duty of Care on commercal premses wth respect to ther waste and ths ncludes FGs.
