2 TS TS GENERAL Scope of Work Ths specfcaton outlnes the work to be undertaken for waterman and water servce tracer wre nstallaton. Supply all labour, materals, tools, equpment, and transportaton to complete the works as descrbed n ths document, as shown on the drawngs, and as necessary by evdence. TS Workmanshp Sklled labour only shall be used for all work. All work shall be performed accordng to nstructons gven by the Contract Admnstrator or hs duly apponted representatve usng the most sutable equpment. TS Handlng and Storage Materal shall be stored so as to prevent njury to persons and to prevent the delay of work by others. All materals whch can be damaged by exposure to the elements must be stored n a clean and dry enclosure. TS REFERENCE Not Used TS TS DEFINITIONS Not Used SUBMISSION AND DESIGN REQUIREMENTS Not Used TS MATERIALS Not Used TS EQUIPMENT Not Used TS TS CONSTRUCTION General Tracer wre shall be nstalled on all non-ductle ron watermans, hydrant laterals and water servces except where such water servce ppe s of copper materal. The wre shall be nstalled n such a manner as to be able to properly trace all watermans, hydrant laterals and water servces wthout loss or deteroraton of sgnal or wthout the transmtted sgnal mgratng off the tracer wre. 3 Tracng wre shall be RWU90, number ten gauge (AWG), sngle or seven strand, nsulated copper wre wth 60 ml of black, cross-lnked polyethylene (XLPE) nsulaton specfcally manufactured for drect bural applcatons. All tracer wre welds onto exstng cast or ductle ron ppe shall be completely sealed wth the use of an approved mastc type sealer specfcally manufactured for underground use. The mastc shall be T.C. Mastc (Tapecoat of Canada) or approved equvalent and shall be appled n a thck coat a mnmum of 12 mm thck and shall be protected from contamnaton by the backfll materal wth the use of a plastc membrane. As an alternatve, Royston Handy Cap prefabrcated assembles used n conjuncton wth Royston Roybond Prmer 747 may be used. In all cases, the ppe s to be properly cleaned and materal applcatons shall be accordng to the manufacturer s nstructons. v All splced or repared wre connectons n the tracer wre system shall be made usng a Model Number 454, Catalogue Number , Wng Nut Wre Connector (for two to four number ten wres), or approved equvalent, and made waterproof usng an approved bured servce wre closure. The bured servce wre closure shall be ether a Klk-It II Number C8816 Bured Servce Wre Closure or a Raychem GHFC-2-90 H-Frame Gel Closure or approved equvalent. TS Installaton At the pont of connecton between cast or ductle ron watermans, wth any non ron waterman, the tracer wre shall be properly connected to the ron ppe wth a cad weld or approved equvalent. Tracer wre shall be lad flat and securely affxed to the ppe at three metre ntervals. The wre shall be protected from damage durng the executon of the works. No breaks or cuts n the tracer wre or tracer wre nsulaton shall be permtted. At water servce saddles, the tracer wre shall not be allowed to be placed between the saddle and the waterman. Except for approved splced n connectons, tracer wre shall be contnuous and wthout splces from valve chamber to valve chamber, valve chamber to fre hydrant or fre hydrant to fre hydrant. v At fre hydrants, no splced n tracer wre connectons shall be allowed regardless of the type of materal of the hydrant lateral. The man lne tracer wre shall follow and be secured to the hydrant lateral up to and back from the hydrant and then contnue along the waterman. The tracer wre shall be wrapped neatly around the hydrant above grade and above the breakaway flange wth at least two metres of slack n the tracer wre above grade. v At exstng ron or copper water servce connectons where any porton of the water servce s replaced wth a non-ductle ron or non-copper materal, a water servce tracer wre shall be splced nto the waterman tracer wre and then connected to, the remanng ron water servce by means of a cad weld, or the remanng copper water servce usng a ground clamp szed approprately for the copper ppe. 4 v At water servce connectons where there s no tracer wre on the exstng waterman and the water servce connecton s nether ron nor copper ppe, tracer wre shall be cad welded to the waterman tee or tappng valve and placed along the water servce to a pont where the water servce enters ether nsde the buldng or water meter chamber and shall be confgured at the valve box as per secton TS (v) heren. The tracer wre nsde the water meter chamber shall be brought up and attached under the access cover. The tracer wre brought nto the buldng shall be left wth a mnmum of 1.0 metre of slack. v In valve chambers, a 12mm dameter stanless steel eyebolt complete wth stanless steel nut and 50mm dameter stanless steel flat washer shall be nstalled between the layers of frame and cover adjustment rngs. The eyebolt shall be of suffcent length to allow the nut and washer to be postoned on the outsde of the adjustment rngs. The tracer wre s to be securely affxed to the eye of the bolt wth enough slack n the wre to extend a mnmum of one metre above grade. The wre shall be brought through the wall nto the chamber wth the ppe and placed neatly along the nsde wall of the chamber and brought up to the eyebolt. v Where a valve box s used nstead of a valve chamber, the tracer wre from both drectons shall be secured every 500 mm to the outsde of the valve box and be brought up on the outsde of the valve box to a pont 100 mm below grade and then brought nto the valve box and left wth an addtonal 500 mm of slack. x At all waterman end caps, a mnmum of two metres of tracer wre shall be extended beyond the end of the ppe, coled and secured for future connectons. The end of the tracer wre shall be splced to the wre of a sx pound (2.7 kg) znc anode and s to be bured at the same elevaton as the waterman. x For drectonal drllng, augerng or borng nstallatons, four #8 tracer wres shall be nstalled wth the ppe and connected to the tracer wre at both ends, or cad welded to the exstng ron ppe at both ends. TS Repars and Waterman Cleanng and Lnng Contracts At all repar locatons n cast or ductle ron ppe, double tracer wres shall be placed across the repared secton and securely cad welded to the ron ppe wthn 300 mm of both ends of the repar as per secton TS () heren. At all repar locatons where there s exstng tracer wre, the tracer wre shall be properly reconnected and splced as per secton TS (v) heren. Whenever any valve or ppe repar occurs wthn or at a valve chamber, tracer wre shall be welded to the exstng cast or ductle ron ppe on both sdes of the replaced secton. Tracer wre wthn the valve chamber shall be confgured and secured as per secton TS (v) heren. v Whenever any valve or ppe repar occurs at valve box locatons, tracer wre shall be welded to the exstng cast or ductle ron ppe on both sdes of the replaced secton. 5 TS Splced Connectons Splced connectons between the man lne tracer wre and branch connecton tracer wre shall only be allowed at waterman tees, crosses or at ron or copper water servces where a porton of the branch connecton waterman or water servce s replaced wth a non ron or non copper materal. The branch connecton tracer wre shall be a sngle tracer wre properly splced to the man lne tracer wre. Where the exstng branch connecton s nether ron nor copper, then the new branch connecton tracer wre shall be properly splced to the exstng tracer wre on the branch connecton All splced connectons shall be made as per secton TS (v) heren. TS Tracer Wre System Testng The tracer wre system shall be tested for functonalty by Cty forces only after the Contractor has confrmed and demonstrated that the entre tracer wre system s nstalled and functonng properly as per secton TS () heren. If defcences are found n the tracer wre system when tested by Cty forces, then the Contractor shall be charged the full cost ncurred by the Cty for all subsequent vsts to ste to confrm functonalty and acceptablty of the tracer wre system. Such costs shall be deducted from the Contractor s fnal payment. TS TS TS Not applcable. QUALITY ASSURANCE - Not Used MEASUREMENT FOR PAYMENT Tracer Wre Installaton TS BASIS OF PAYMENT TS Tracer Wre Installaton There s no separate payment for the supply and nstallaton of tracer wre on any constructon or nstallaton of non-ductle ron waterman, hydrant laterals and non-copper water servces by the Contractor. The Contractor shall consder the supply and nstallaton of tracer wre ncdental to all constructon of non-ductle waterman, hydrant laterals and non-copper water servces, and any constructon/nstallaton of other related utlty structures as specfed n the contract.
