Hses, lines and tanks must shw n signs f leaks r damage. If necessary, clear up any defects befre putting the vehicle int peratin. 26

Operatin 3 Operatin Operating persnnel must read the perating manual thrugh carefully. Operating persnnel shuld cmplete their initial test drive n a sufficiently large piece f pen space until they are familiar with the individual perating elements and the respective functins. 3.1 Methd f peratin The Admiral 48D is a scrubber-drier fr wet cleaning hard flrs (refer t Fig. 14). It cleans flrs by means f intensive scrubbing with the aid f a water and cleaning agent slutin. The squeegee at the rear f the vehicle vacuums up the waste water int the recvery tank in the same wrking prcess. By using the pre-sweep/vacuum unit, the vehicle can als be perated accrding t the tandem principle fr the advanced sweeping and dry cleaning f hard flrs: the dirt is swept up dust-free using tw side brushes and a cylindrical brush. Fig. 14 The scrubber-drier is a ride-n machine designed fr the ecnmic cleaning f large flr areas in buildings. A seat cntact ensures that the vehicle can nly be perated when an peratr is seated n the driver's seat. The mst imprtant vehicle elements are described belw: 3.1.1 Pre-sweep/vacuum unit (Fig. 15/4) The pre-sweep/vacuum unit sweeps and vacuums up dirt in dry areas in frnt f the scrubbing unit withut swirling up dust. In this case, the tw side brushes sweep the dirt directly in the track f the cylindrical brush. The side brushes sweep up the dirt frm crners and edges s that it is nt necessary t drive t clse t shelves, walls, machines, etc. and a driving clearance t allw steering can easily be maintained. The cylindrical brush then sweeps the dirt frwards int the dirt hpper. The fine dust swirled up by the cylindrical brush is drawn up by the extractr fan and fed t the filter element. Only clean air is blwn frm the machine. The Admiral 48D cmplies with dust categry U (BIA). The pre-sweeping and vacuuming system and the filters are easily accessible fr maintenance tasks. 27

Operatin 1 1 4 2 3 3.1.2 Scrubbing unit (Fig. 15/5) Three disk brushes, which can be changed withut the need f tls, ensure a high cleaning perfrmance. They are each driven by a brush mtr. The brush pressure can be adjusted electrically accrding t the flr and accumulatin f dirt. When the brushes are raised, the water supply and brush rtatin are stpped autmatically. The deflectin bars t the left and right f the disk brushes can be raised, if necessary. This ensures the cleaning slutin is nt frced t the center f the vehicle and, as a result, can sak the dirt. This is necessary fr basic cleaning (wet scrubbing nly), fr example. Hk in the deflectrs, refer t paragraph Scrubbing unit. 6 5 In the case f all cleaning wrk invlving immediate vacuuming, the deflectrs must be unhked s that the deflectrs make cntact with the flr. Fig. 15 28

Operatin Deflectrs (Fig. 15/5) T the right and left f the disk brushes, near the flr, are tw deflectrs which, when in their wrking psitin, prevent water splashing t the sides and guide the waste water t the center f the vehicle s that it can be vacuumed up better. The deflectrs can be raised, if necessary. This is the case fr basic cleaning, fr example, where the flr nly needs t be scrubbed when wet and the slutin is nt vacuumed up but allwed t sak in instead. T raise the deflectr, take hld f the grip (Fig. 15/1), raise it and hk the lcking hks (Fig. 15/3) in the recesses in the angle (Fig. 15/2) abve it. Prceed in the same way n the ther side f the side f the vehicle. 3.1.3 Squeegee (Fig. 15/6) The squeegee, which prjects at the sides, is fixed t the scrubber-drier s that it can pivt and swing. This enables it t evade bstacles in the current track and pivt back. Its strng suctin capacity ensures the waste water is vacuumed up fully even n uneven flrs and in bends, leaving the flr dry enugh t be walked n. The squeegee must be checked prir t starting wrk, when dispsing f waste water and/r filling the fresh water tank and cleared f any freign bdies which have been vacuumed up. Check that the sealing strips are in perfect cnditin. The rllers serve t supprt the squeegee t prevent excessive bending f the sealing strips. The squeegee is autmatically raised when reversing. 3.1.4 Suctin turbines (suctin) (Fig. 16/3) The tw suctin turbines are lcated n the rear panel f the fresh water tank and can be accessed after pening the rear drs. The suctin turbines are switched n and ff autmatically when lwering and raising the squeegee, respectively. A flat switch in the recvery tank switches the suctin turbine ff autmatically n reaching the maximum fill height. 29

Operatin 3.1.5 Fresh water tank (Fig. 16/2) The fresh water tank is lcated behind the driver's seat n the right-hand side. The fresh water tank is a tank partitined by a membrane panel and has a vlume f apprx. 81.9 gal. Open up the red tank cap and secure it t fill the tank. Fill water, max. 122 F, and add the cleaning agent in accrdance with the manufacturer's instructins. Lwer the cap again t clse it. Only use cleaning agents (nnfaming) suitable fr the vehicle's vendr. We recmmend using ur clean and care prducts which are specially balanced fr the scrubber drier. Observe the crrect dsage f the cleaning agent. The crrect dsage helps t reduce csts and prtect the envirnment. 1 2 3 Fig. 16 30

Operatin The develpment f excessive fam impairs the vehicle's functin. It indicates verdsage f the cleaning agent; cmpnents f the cleaning agent which are fed back t the waste water cause faming. Infrmatin n dsage is prvided n the cleaning agent cntainer. Use the manufacturer's infrmatin as an initial guideline. Practical experience will ensure that yu quickly find ut which is the right cleaning agent and the ptimum dsage t suit yur needs. The fresh water supply t the brushes is autmatically pened when the scrubbing prgram is activated. If necessary, the feed can be stpped manually by means f the ball cck. Operating times with ne tankful: at 0.5 gal/min apprx. 155 minutes at 1.1 gal/min apprx. 77 minutes at 1.8 gal/min apprx. 44 minutes 3.1.6 Recvery tank (Fig. 16/1) The recvery tank is lcated behind the driver's seat n the left-hand side. The recvery tank is a tank partitined by a membrane panel and has a vlume f apprx. 81.9 gal. The waste water is fed t the recvery tank via the squeegee by means f a vacuum. A flat switch at the tp f the recvery tank switches the suctin turbine ff autmatically as sn as the maximum tank fill level is reached. In this case, the cntrl lamp (Fig. 19/2) n the left perating panel lights up. An acustic signal is als issued. A spray/vacuum tl (refer t Sectin 4), which can be cnnected t the vehicle, is ptinally available with which t clean and vacuum up water frm areas difficult t access. 31

Operatin 3.1.7 Tractin drive The tractin drive is prvided by a drive mtr n the steerable frnt wheel. The driving speed can be cntinuusly regulated via the acceleratr by means f the electrnic drive cntrl (pulse cntact cntrl). The axle gear is a gear train which runs in an il bath. In the case f faults invlving the tractin drive, stp the vehicle immediately and remve the key frm the key switch! 3.1.8 Brakes The scrubber-drier is equipped with a service brake and a parking brake. The service brake relates t a drum brake which acts hydraulically n the rear wheels. It is actuated by a ft pedal. The parking brake is actuated mechanically via brake cables. It is applied by means f the ft pedal t the left f the steering clumn and released using the safety catch in the steering clumn. 32

Operatin 3.1.9 Batteries and charger The scrubber-drier is pwered by a tractin battery (36 Vlt / 395 Ah 5 ), 6 mnblc batteries each prducing 6 Vlt. They are fit in a battery tray. T ensure prtectin against deep discharge, the scrubber drier is equipped with a deep discharge signal transducer (Battery Management System (BMS)). It is integrated in the electrnic system and set up at the factry fr GiS batteries (service indicatr: N. 5). If ther batteries are used, the deep discharge signal transducer must be adjusted. This adjustment wrk shuld nly be perfrmed at an authrized PwerBss service center. The battery is prvided with a cnnectin cable with battery plug (Fig. 17/1). When the battery plug is plugged int the vehicle scket (Fig. 17/2), the vehicle is ready t perate. 1 2 Fig. 17 33
