Pressure Regulating Valves General Specifications George Fischer offers three types of pressure regulating valve designs that either reduce, retain or relieve pressure. These valves provide highly accurate and stable pressure control irrespective of fluctuations of inlet pressure or changes in flow demand. The valve body works by balancing an adjustable spring force that pushes downward onto a diaphragm or piston/o-ring (Body Type V182) against the force of the process fluid pushing upward. Adjusted by an adjustment screw and secured with a locknut Mechanic valve parts are isolated from the process fluid Size range Pressure Range ½ 2 * 7 to 15 psi 2½ 3 14 to 9 psi 4 14 to 6 psi * 3 /8" available upon request Valve Bodies Temperature Range PVC 32 F 14 F C 6 C Beta Polypropylene -4 F 176 F -2 C 8 C SYGEF/SYGEF Plus -4 F 248 F -2 C 12 C Diaphragm: Seals: End Connections: EPDM or PTFE EPDM or FPM (FPM is supplied on PTFE Diaphragm products) Threaded (NPT), Flanged, Socket, IR Plus, BCF Plus Working Pressure Pressure (psi) Temperature ( F) 3

George Fischer Pressure Regulating Valves Explained Body Types PRV designs incorporate different body styles or types based on the type and size of the PRV. Changes in body type are aesthetic, but may include some internal component differences as well. Valve body type is an important consideration only when considering maintenance to a PRV. Pressure Reducing Valves Standard Design High Performance Design ½ through 1½ : Body Type V182 (new) ½ through 1½ : Body Type V782 2 through 4 : Body Type V82 Pressure Retaining Valves (Back Pressure Valves) Standard Design High Performance Design ½ through 2 : Body Type V186 (new) ½ through 1½ : Body Type V786 2½ through 4 : Body Type V86 Pressure Relief Valves Standard Design High Performance Design ½ through 2 : Body Type V185 (new) Not available 2½ through 4 : Body Type V85 High Performance Design vs. Standard Design Pressure Reducing Valves The high performance design differs in body type, size range, and in performance. Available through 1½, the high performance design offers increased pressure control accuracy. See flow characteristic graphs for complete details. Body Type V782 (high performance) is unavailable with an integral gauge, while V182/82 comes with a pressure gauge standard. Pressure Retaining Valves The high performance design differs in body type, size range, and in performance. Available through 1½, the high performance design offers increased pressure control accuracy. See flow characteristic graphs for complete details. End Connectors GF offers 9-digit part numbers for each PRV style, size and material. Each comes with a standard mounting end option per the chart below: PVC Beta PP SYGEF Threaded IR Plus IR Plus/BCF Plus Customers may also choose from a variety of available options by adding a suffix at the end of the 9-digit part number: Optional End Connectors PVC Beta PP SYGEF Socket (S) N/A 4** 4** Threaded (T) Standard 4 4 Flanged (F) 4 4 4 (U)* 4 4 4 * option: Socket union ends provided on all PVC sizes and body types. For Beta PP and SYGEF, butt fusion ends will be provided. ** The (S) option for Beta PP and SYGEF converts the Butt Fusion end to a male metric socket end (spigot) by adding a chamfer to the valve end. Flow The flow characteristic graphs represent flow versus pressure only when opening the valve. We recommend not exceeding a flow velocity of 2 m/s when using these valves. 4

Sample Application Schematic Back pressure valve maintains pressure to other parts of system to maintain proper flow rates through rotameters. If pressure goes too high, excess flow / pressure will feed back to tank. Back pressure valve works similar to relief valve. If pressure exceeds 6 psi, water / pressure will bypass back to tank. Monitor for proper flow through the system Isolation valve for service of gauge 5

Pressure Reducing Valves Body Type V182/82 The Pressure Reducing Valve reduces pressure to a given value. By utilizing the differential pressure, the valve sets itself to the set working pressure and maintains it on the downstream side, irrespective of fluctuations of inlet pressure or changes in flow. The valve works by balancing an adjustable spring force that pushes downward onto a diaphragm and against the force of the process fluid. The valve is adjusted by a set screw and secured with a locknut. Can be installed in any position with no effect on functioning. Where the medium is dirty or particle-laden, we recommend installing a strainer to avoid any breakdowns. Fitting the valve between two detachable pipe connections (flanges or union ends) offers convenient valve access and is the most practical mounting configuration when frequent valve maintenance is required. Before activating, check tension/torque of body and piston bolts. Recommended Bolt-Torques Size in. In case the fluids are full of dirt and/or particles, the pressure reducing valves need to be cleaned depending on the degree of pollution. 2. When dismantling the reducing valve (e.g. for cleaning), you should unlock the set screw (11) until the spring assembly (9) is discharged. Only then you can unlock the cylinder screws (11) from the relief valve. 3. Depending on the operating conditions and its duration, several parts may be affected by their normal wear. In this case, we recommend you to provide the following spare parts: a) Diaphragm (3) c) Spring assembly / spiral spring (9) b) Piston (complete) (4) d) For the V82: O-ring (18) Replacing the diaphragm or the piston O-ring 1. Follow steps 1 and 2, according to the maintenance section. 2. Unscrew and remove the valve bottom (16). 3. ay down the valve (now open in both sides). 4. For V82 / V782: Hold firm the piston (4) with a convenient tool from the lower side of the valve and at the same time, open the cylinder screw with a hexagon key from the upper side. For V182: Detatch piston bottom. Now push up the piston. Go to step 7. 5. Remove the cylinder screw (12) / (19) and diaphragm (3). 6. Remove the piston from the bottom. 7. Remove the lip seal (17) / the O-ring (18) from the inside of the valve body (1). Reassemble in reverse order. 7

Pressure Reducing Valves Body Type V782 The Pressure Reducing Valve reduces the pressure within the system to a pre-set value. By using the differential pressure, the pressure reducing valve adjusts itself to the set working pressure. The outlet pressure (working pressure) is not directly related to the inlet pressure. If the outlet pressure increases or decreases above/below the desired value, the diaphragm is lifted against the spring force or pressed down by the spring force, as the case may be, by the outlet pressure. The pressure reducing valve begins to close/open until a state of equilibrium is re-established; in other words, the outlet pressure remains constant irrespective of an increasing or decreasing inlet pressure. Pressure Retaining Valves (Back Pressure Valves) Body Type V186/86 The Pressure Retaining Valve serves to keep the working or system related pressures constant, to balance out pressure pulsation and to reduce pressure peaks in process systems. If the inlet pressure rises above the set value, the pressurized valve piston is lifted against the spring force. Consequently, the valve opens and there is a reduction of pressure through the outlet pipe. The valve closes as soon as the inlet pressure sinks below the pre-set spring tension. When used as a bypass, it can also function as a relief valve to reduce pressure peaks. Pressure Relief Valves Body Type V185/85 The Pressure Relief Valve serves to keep the working or system related pressures constant, to balance out pressure pulsation, and to reduce pressure peaks in process systems. The third pipe spigot fitted on the valve body means the valve can be installed directly in the main pipeline. If the inlet pressure rises above the set value, the pressurized valve piston is lifted against the spring force. Consequently, the valve opens and there is a reduction of pressure in the outlet pipe. The excess pressure can exhaust or be redirected via the third outlet. The valve closes as soon as the inlet pressure sinks below the pre-set spring tension. Description 1. valve body 2. housing 3.* diaphragm 4.* piston 5. compressor 6.* spring assembly 7. counter nut 8. set screw 9. cylinder screw 1. cap 11. spring compressor *Recommanded spare parts Installation 1. Do observe the flow position! It is marked with an arrow on the valve body. 2. It can be installed in any position. 3. In case of dirty fluids or of fluids with particles, we recommend you to install a line strainer in front of the unit. 4. Fitting the valve between two detachable pipe connections (flanges or union ends) offers convenient valve access and is the most practical mounting configuration when frequent valve maintenance is required. 5. Before activating you must check the tension of the body and piston bolts. If necessary fix bolts (see chart below). Detach the plastic cap (1) from the top (2) of the valve. 2. Undo the counter nut (7). 3. Turn the set screw with a screwdriver/hexagonal key as follows: a) clockwise - The operating pressure is increasing b) counterclockwise - The operating pressure is decreasing 4. Once set up the operating pressure, secure it with counter nut (7). Maintenance 1. In case the fluids are full of dirt and/or particles, the pressure reducing valves need to be cleaned depending of pollution. 2. When dismantling the reducing valve (e.g. for cleaning), you should unlock the set screw (8) until the spring assembly (5) is discharged. Only then you can unlock the cylinder screw (9) from the relief valve. 3. Depending on the operating conditions and its duration, several parts may be affected by their normal wear. In this case, we recommend you to provide the following spare parts: a) Diaphragm (3) b) Piston (complete) (4) c) Spring assembly (6) 27
