2 Operating Instructions King pin Introduction The air assisted and manual King Pin Press is a safe, professional, and time-efficient tool used to replace heavy-duty king pins. It s vertical, side-to-side, and front-to-back adjustability make it easy to maneuver around obstacles that would otherwise make the job time consuming and difficult. It comes with a fully stocked tooling kit that prepares technicians to replace king pins of various sizes. All of the KPP- 43 s features combined with the use of 43,000 lb of compression forces make it the most timeefficient, safe, easy to use, and reliable tool for king pin replacement. Application range of the king pin press King pin presses may only be used for pressing out king pins in the workshop. Any other use above the described function is not allowed. The king pin press are designed and built according to technical standard and the approved regulations for technical security.yet, danger for body and life of the operator may turn up when using the oroduct inexpertly. Warranty and Liability Generally our General Conditions of Sales and supplies are valid. These are available to the user as of the time of contracting. Warranty- and Liability- claims for personal and property damage are excluded if use of the king pin press contrary to its destined application, neglecting the remarks in the instructions for use, Iinexpertly carried out repairs, spare parts not originating from accessories of other manufacturers were used or if unauthorised technical alternations of the king pin press Safety / Accident Prevention The press must only be operated by persons who have read and understood this manual and who are at least 8 years old. Persons younger than 8 years are exceptionaly allowed to operate the press if this is necessary for their education. Safe working conditions have to be observed by an experienced person and only tools excluding injuries must be used. The instructions for use are constantly to be kept at the place of operation, thus being at hand at any time. In addition to the instructions for use, rules pertaining to other regulations i. e. accident prevention and environmental protection rules have to be observed. Prior to initial operation and later once a year the press has to be checked upon technical faults by a skilled person. The result has to be written down on the enclosed sheet. The setup of the press must only be done when press is not in working position. The user of the press has to wear safety glasses during the operation. When using accessories not supplied by ARI- HETRA we will not take any responsibility. Doing repair works switch off main power switch and cut compressed air supply (if available). Using oils and greases environmental- and safety- rules concerning these products have to be observed. Transport For transport of press only appropriate transport means must be used. 3 Operating Instructions King pin press Operation and use Only use the king pin press on a solid, level surface. Before starting the press, always check the oil level (approximate fill volume 3.75 quarts). Position the press as close as possible to the vehicle axle and use the shortest possible stroke for the hydraulic work. The spindles in the press frame must always be securely tightened with the attached nuts. When adjusting the press to the vehicle, always make sure that the crosspiece and press frame are parallel. The press frame can also be detached from the trolley and used for appropriate, suitable jobs (Note: be careful not to bend the air and hydraulic hose or damage it in any way). After using the king pin press, lower the piston fully to prevent possible damage and to avoid unnecessary loading on the return spring. Pull out the side lever rod before moving the trolley. The attached rapid lifting valve can be used to extend and retract the piston quickly (without load); UP = extend and DOWN = retract the piston. Technical data Press capacity 43,300 lbs. Stroke 4.75 Nominal pressure 6,09 psi Air supply max. 88 psi Weight approx. 30 Oil fill volume 3.75 quarts Loudness level db(a) > 60 High-speed pneumatic lift and return Venting the press cylinder The press cylinder can easily be vented if required: Partially extend the piston rod; using a size 4 hexagon socket, slightly loosen the headless screw in the center of the location hole on the piston rod and then tighten it again once the air has been released. Maintenance and repairs Maintenance and repair work on the press may only be carried out by trained personnel. Always make sure the press is depressurised before starting work. The pump body and spindles must be kept clean at all times. Do not allow the press to be damaged by foreign bodies. Make sure that the pressure hose is in good condition and that the connections are clean. Drain off condensation water in the sight glass on the service unit if necessary. Change the oil once a year.
