2 Experience shows that despite the fact that companies undertake all possible measures to build safe and reliable pipelines, no one can give a 100% guarantee that oil spills will not occur. The goals that the ecology departments of oil-producing, transport and oil processing companies are faced with, as well as the types of equipment allowing to achieve those goals are outlined on the diagram below. Containment works can be carried out in-land, on water, and in marshy areas with the use of the equipment that we offer. Our integrated approach to this problem offers the following: risk assessment; contingency planning to handle emergency situations; supply of necessary equipment; personnel training. This approach allows the customer to minimize losses and maximize capital investment in equipment used for scheduled cleaning of contaminated sites and dealing with emergency situations. Mobile oil spill response equipment can be delivered to the most remote areas imaginable. Once at the site, the equipment can be started up and operating in under an hour. The equipment and training provided can be used to clean oil spills on land, open waters and marshes. In addition, the equipment can function under extreme weather conditions and deal with various types of spills and oil products. A wide range of auxilaries allows to optimize the equipment packages, and widens the range of carried out operations. 4 Booms for a wide range of applications This type of boom has a closed cell, in which foam floats are installed, giving the boom buoyancy. Features of foam-filled containment boom: The booms are made from fully welded PVC, but they can be made to order from a range of different materials. The welded seam edges of the boom have special strengthening. The boom section length is determined by the customer. The booms are complete with handles, anchor points, vertical supports, galvanised steel ballast chain, tension cables made from galvanised or stainless steel coated with vinyl, giving the boom a high tear strength. Optional accessories include anchors, lights, reflectors, repair kits and towing kits. 7 For use in areas with a changing levels of water TundraGuard TundraGuard is a special purpose lightweight oil spill containment boom for use in shallow calm water environments where the water level may fluctuate and cause conventional booms to leak or fail due to grounding. The upper chamber is filled with foam buoyancy that provides freeboard when the water depth increases and allows the boom to function like conventional curtain booms in deeper water. The ballast consist of a single water chamber, this water ballasted skirt causes the boom to rest on the terrain in shallow water and creates a seal to contain oil. The Tundra Guard is suited to swamps, marshes, inland or boggy terrain. For use in coastal areas ShoreMax ShoreMax is a special purpose containment boom for use in shallow water environments or to transverse between the beach and the sea. It is ideal for making the transition between a conventional floating boom and the shoreline. It is also very useful in swamp and marsh areas where the water level can rise and fall. 10 For permanent installation Permafence Boom This containment boom is for permanent installation in areas where there is a continual risk of pollution. It is remarkable for its high tensile strength and can be used even in the toughest conditions. It contains and holds oil patches, floating waste and water plants. 11 For oil burning and fire containment During the battle with oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Hydro-Fire Boom has yet again proved to be the most effective means of dealing with the aftermath of accidental oil spills on water and avoiding the pollution of coastal waters and shorelines. Hydro-Fire Boom Hydro-Fire Boom is a patented, tried and tested, state-of-the-art inflatable boom, designed for oil burning operations on water surfaces. The boom can be used in a variety of applications. By simultaneously sweeping and burning a contained oil spill, using this boom, from 600 to 1800 barrels (100 to 300 tons) of oil can be eliminated per hour. 12 SkorBoom Convenient and easy to use, the Skorboom sorbent boom is designed for continuous and multiple use. Ű Ű The operating life is 3 times longer than that of standard sorbent boom. 13 Airmax V-Sweep Versatile System of Inflatable Boom and Weir Skimmer AirMax V-Sweep inflatable boom is manufactured from high quality polyurethane. The design ensures the best possible integrity of the boom s air chambers. AirMax V-Sweep is intended for sweeping using two boats. To be able to deploy the boom using one boat, an outrigger arm is used which helps retain the U shape of the boom. The outrigger arm is made up of sections (corresponding to the dimensions of the boat) and is mounted on an articulated joint so that sweeping can be carried out even in rougher waters. 16 Drum Oil Skimmers Drum skimmers are oleophilic oil skimmers whose working elements are hollow cylinders or drums. The advantages of drums are their durability and reliability (in comparison to disk or brush skimmers which can be bent or broken by large, hard fragments of waste) and also their high buoyancy which means the skimmer has a shallow draft a drum skimmer rarely requires floats for buoyancy. All drum skimmers are designed for prolonged, uninterrupted work. The research was sponsored by the government of the USA within the frameworks of the Minerals Management Service programme and the university s Toxic Substances Research programme. 17 Steam Heating System Elastec s drum skimmers can be supplied with a steam heating system, which allows then to operate at low temperatures in waters covered with chunks of ice. Steam coils can be installed in the collection trough and sump. Steam is produced by a generator, with a water tank installed. The system is housed in a trailer for transportation to a spill site. During operations the steam heating system melts snow and ice around the skimmer, allowing the oil access to the drum. In addition, the system heats the oil, improving the flow to the transfer pump and preventing hoses from icing up. Auxilary Equipment 15

18 MiniMax Oil Skimmer This is a durable and reliable drum skimmer, designed for uninterrupted operations in tough industrial conditions. The frame of the standard skimmer is manufactured in high density polyethylene, which gives the skimmer excellent resistance to the effects of chemical compounds which are to be found in settling tanks, separators, storage tanks and pits. 19 TDS and Magnum Oil Skimmers The TDS 118 and 136 models are distinguished by their low weights and can easily be carried by hand. For operations at sea, the Magnum skimmer models can be fitted with a wave breaker to help prevent oversplash into the skimmer sump. The Magnum 400 is fitted with a 914mm diameter drum. 20 The recovery of large oil spills Sea Skater Oil Skimmer This skimmer is intended for effective operation on large oil spills, where a very high recovery rate is required. The system is made up of a circular floating spillover (weir) with the LP3000 positive displacement pump with hydraulic drive. When the level of the weir is slightly lower than the oil level, the surface layer of liquid flows over the weir and is pumped out to a storage tank. 21 Oil recovery in shallow waters Delta Shovel Oil Skimmer The Delta Shovel oil skimmer is light, reliable and comparatively inexpensive vacuum suction head, intended for the recovery of oil and oil products from the surface of calm and/or enclosed waters. This skimmer has a draft of only 50mm and may be used effectively in shallow waters. The recovery rate of this skimmer is 30m³/hour. The skimmer head is manufactured from moulded polyurethane and can be used with any suitable suction or vacuum pump, for example, with a peristaltic or diaphragm pump, and also with the vacuum systems MiniVac and PACS. Diesel Power Packs General features of diesel power packs: Fitted with quiet water-cooled diesel engines with electric start. Compact but powerful, these units are mounted on a steel frame and are supplied with a control panel. The open design of the frame makes for easy maintenance. 24 PACS 1000/1200 Vacuum Unit The PACS 1000/1200 vacuum unit is used for the removal of liquids, hard waste and oil sludge from ground or water surfaces. The PACS 1000/1200 can be used to drive additional equipment, for example, skimmers and pumps. Features of the vacuum unit: The unit is easy to use in hard to reach places. The unit is less expensive than truck-mounted vacuum units. The unit can be trailer and/or skid mounted. Units mounted on trailers can be towed on public roads. 25 MiniVac II Mobile Portable System The MiniVac II is designed for the recovery of spilt liquids, oil and runoff water with solid matter content, with a diameter of 2 to 50mm. It is ideally suited to use in remote regions and industrial areas. The system is usually fitted with a quiet 15kV diesel engine, with electric start and spark arrestor, but can be fitted with a gas of electric engine if required. The vacuum pump provides suction for the recovery of oil into standard drums or tanks with a capacity of 416 litres. 28 Quicktank The Quicktank reservoir was developed for quick deployment and temporary storage of liquids. The Quicktank has a robust aluminium frame which supports the open top liner which is made from material with high anticorrosion properties. A wide choice of fabrics is available. The Quicktank is available in two sizes 1,893 litre and 10,410 litre. Towable Bladder Towable Bladders can be used on water or on land and can operate in the very toughest of conditions. The can be towed by boats both full and empty. The double-layer walls of the truck are hollow inside and can be filled with water or air. The internal wall of the tank is made from chemical resistant material. Tower Bladders are available as 1.9m³ and 13m³. The tanks come complete with carry bags fir transportation. Pillow Tanks Pillow tanks are an inexpensive means of temporary storage for a wide range of liquids, including fuel, oil and treated water. Tanks are available in sizes from 757 to 18,928 litres. 30 Elaspray Portable System This system is used for the spraying of dispersants during oil spill cleanup operations in harbours and coastal areas. The system can be installed on tug boats and any type of boat. The compact diesel driven pump included in the system, can spray dilute or neat dispersants. The unit consists of two marine grade aluminium arms, mounted on a supporting post and secured by topping wires. Each spray arm is fitted with spray nozzles, which allow for precision spraying of the diluted dispersants. dispersant spray Systems 28

31 NeatSweep System The Neatsweep system is an effective means of spraying dispersant chemicals onto the surface of an oil slick. The system consists of two sections of AirMax boom, computerised dispersant pumping unit, mixer panel and dispersant application unit. The system works by containment of the spill followed by treatment with dispersants, while traditional methods spray dispersants onto inconsistent oil patches, spread over the water s surface. Containment forces the inconsistent patches together, avoiding the spraying of chemical dispersants onto areas of the water surface which are free from pollution. A computerised monitoring system controls the rate of dispersant application which drastically reduces dispersant waste. The use of NeatSweep means that dispersant usage can be reduced by up to 50% and significantly reduces the pollution of the water by dispersants. dispersant spreading zone dispersant spray Systems 29

32 Disposal of sorbents and other oily waste SmartAsh Cyclonic Barrel Burner The materials to be incinerated are loaded into a 208 litre open topped metal drum. They are then set alight and the lid is clamped on. Inside the drum a whirlwind of fire and intense heat is created. Burning takes place with no smoke or smell given off. An ash residue of 3% of the burnt material volume is all that remains. The full burning cycle lasts about minutes. SmartAsh can be supplied with the Oil Away attachment for oil injection. This allows various materials to be burnt, including waste oil and oil products. Use of the unit fulfils the requirements of the EPA for incineration of materials not classed as dangerous. 34 Sets of equipment for efficient oil spill response We can put together sets of equipment for special order, for example, for use in harbours, tank farms, pipeline right-of-way, or the open sea. Sets of Equipment for Oil Spill Response Following a Pipeline Accident Accidents on pipelines, apart from disrupting the transportation of oil products, lead to serious pollution of the surrounding area. Ecology departments of companies involved in the transportation of oil, must do everything possible to minimise the negative effects on the environment. In order to do this, they must have available a thoroughly well prepared stock of equipment for effective spill response. 36 Containers We offer a full range of containers for storage and transportation of equipment and accessories for the clean-up operation following an oil spill. These containers come in a range of sizes and can be customised to suit individual requirements. Typically 20 or 40 containers are supplied, which can be fitted with side opening doors for quick and easy access to the equipment. Racks can be fitted inside the containers for hanging containment boom. This allows the boom to be stored odd the floor and preconnected ready for deployment. 38 Multi-Purpose Crawler Carrier Intended for work in remote and cross-country areas, this carrier was specially designed for the transportation of pumps and skimmers whilst also supplying them with power. The carrier is fitted with an integral hydraulic motor and lifting crane for the loading and unloading of equipment. It is one of the best 4-wheel drive vehicles available on the market, capable of running a skimmer and submersible pump plus lifting, towing and transporting equipment and materials off-road across sand, tundra and snow. The vehicle has excellent manoeuvrability thanks to the combination of 4-wheel drive and tracks. The ATV is fitted with auxiliary hydraulic drive, A-frame with hydraulically driven winch. 41 FastCat Catamaran The aluminium FastCat catamaran is fitted with two 425hp diesel engines and can effectively respond to spills up to 112km from the shore and transport up to 15 tons of equipment and materials. Multi-Purpose Skiff The multi-purpose skiff is for transportation, storage and deployment of equipment for oil spill response. Trash Collection Boat We offer a variety of models for the collection of trash, in a wide range of sizes to suit different operating conditions. The small pontoon type boat can be supplied to the customer in a standard container, in kit form. The boat is then assembled on site. For larger volumes of waste, there are larger boats with hydraulic powered scoops which collect the waste and load it into containers on the deck. 39
