2 The Better Dispensers by Bergquist Installation Check List Use two lengths of 2" pipe to connect the tank to the dispenser cabinet and support stands. Approximately 15' length for a 500 gallon tank and 21' length for a 1000 gallon tank. The dispenser cabinet ties into pipe skids. The oversized vent opening is on the lower right side of the cabinet and is intended for use as a pump service access opening. Install an internal valve into the 1-1/4" opening in the bottom of the de-pressurized ASME container with a quality thread sealant. Use 1-1/4" schedule 80 pipe for the liquid withdrawal line, a selection of pipe nipples is included. Install the supplied 1-1/4" ball valve and 'Y' strainer on the liquid line downstream of the internal valve. The Compact Install the supplied 1-1/4" stainless steel flex line and the 1-1/4" union on the liquid line upstream of the pump. Use the supplied galvanized cable kit, which includes pull ring, eyebolt and sign, for the remote shutdown system. Connect the cable to the remote release latch, with thermal protection, on the internal valve. An air actuator upgrade kit is also available. Reference the wire sizing chart, included with the Corken pump documentation, for correct wire sizing, (undersized wiring is a common problem). Maximum allowable operational voltage drop is 10%. Use a qualified electrician to install electrical conduit from the junction box to the switch. Route conduit behind the pump motor assembly and along the cabinet wall to the desired switch location. This will allow room for the installation of the beam scale. Install the liquid bypass return line to the 1-1/4" acme vapor connection at the tank with 3/4" schedule 80 pipe or 5/8" OD type K copper. Use the supplied ball valve and 1-1/4" female acne connector. Set the bypass valve according to manufacturers instructions. Connect the meter vapor eliminator return line to the POL service valve at the tank using the supplied male POL x 3/8" flare connector. Avoid dips in tubing to prevent liquid propane accumulation. The meter will not operate properly if the return line is blocked with liquid. Autogas Install the top doorstops in the pre-drilled holes on the cabinet sides. The doorstops are shipped in a bag in the door pocket. During initial start-up, pressurize the system slowly with propane vapor. Vehicle crash posts and/or fencing may be required, check local codes. Provide emergency contact phone numbers and a 20 lb. BC fire extinguisher. Please contact a Bergquist representative if you have any questions. The Original
3 The Better Dispenser by Bergquist Typical Layout Use ¾ black pipe schedule #80 or 5/8 OD type K copper tubing from pump bypass to the 1 ¼ acme vapor return valve using the supplied ball valve and 1 ¼ acme adaptor. The Bergquist Better Dispenser is shipped completely assembled and pressure tested. Scale requires assembly. Check with local authority having jurisdiction before installing unit. 3/8 OD type K copper tubing from meter vapor eliminator to POL service valve. Avoid dips in tubing to prevent liquid propane trap. Use Teflon tape and/or pipe thread sealant on all fittings. Prime and paint all piping as soon as possible. Use new tank when possible. Important Adequate 230V electrical supply is critical for proper pump performance. See wire sizing chart included with dispenser documentation. Universal base with bidirectional 2 locking tubes for support pipes. Base dimensions for D2 cabinet are 45 W x 40 D. Other cabinet sizes available. Bolt the supplied stands to tank feet. Tighten set screws to 2 schedule 40 or schedule 80 pipe (available from Bergquist as an option). Approx. 15 length for 500gal installation, 21 length for 1,000gal, 2 required. Galvanized steel cable with eyebolt, pull ring and sign are included in kit. Mount where convenient and visible. Min 12 nipple at pump inlet 1 ¼ flex connector 1 ¼ union 1 ¼ strainer 1 ¼ ball valve Internal valve Piping layout not drawn to scale Stand dimensions are 22 ½ wide at top mounting plate, 24 wide at base, 3 channel NFPA An identified and accessible remote emergency shutoff device for either the internal valve or the emergency shutoff valve required by (1) or (2) shall be installed not less than 3ft (1m) or more than 100ft (30m) from the liquid transfer point.
4 The Better Dispensers by Bergquist Cabinet Choices 3 Cabinet Designs D1 - Compact cabinet, a single door, accommodates pump and meter. D2 - Original cabinet design, two forward doors, rollback top, accommodates pump, meter and scale. WID-6 - Tall walk-in cabinet, a single door, accommodates pump, meter, and scale. 2 Cabinet Materials Steel - welded 16 gauge galvanized steel construction primed and finished with white powder coat enamel paint. Aluminum - welded 14 gauge diamond plate aluminum construction, and polished finish. D1-A Dispenser Kit The 'Compact' Aluminum 34"W x 20"D x 46" H Tested and Assembled All Bergquist dispensers are shipped assembled and pressure tested. All cabinets include a locking door, mounting base and tank stands. The tall walk-ins and the original cabinets have a universal base for installation flexibility, allowing the tank to be mounted at either the side or rear of the cabinet. The compact cabinet mounts the tank to the rear only. All Standard Better Dispensers include: Corken pump with a 2 hp motor, a cabinet mounted switch, and a 3/4" bypass valve. Fairbanks portable beam scale, 1,000 lb. capacity with upright post in center back. Neptune 1" type 4D-MD dispenser meter, non-temperature compensated, nonprinting. Two 1/2" deliver hoses, a 5' hose and an 18' hose, each with quick acting hose end valves. Internal valve with remote release latch, and a 3/4" breakaway device. High quality adapters and fittings for filling cylinders, forklifts and RV's. Misc. 1-1/4" inlet piping, connection nipples, union, Y-strainer, stainless steel flex line, and valves. Tanks stands (2 ea.), QCC1 dust caps (25 ea.), and DOT/OSHA labels (100 ea.) Cabinet signage: OSHA diamond (3 ea.), No Smoking (3 ea.), and Propane (3 ea.). 5 Dispenser Site Inspection Recommendations During each fill - Visually inspect tank and tank valves Daily - Visually inspect fill hoses and fill valves for sign of wear - Operate internal valve and/or other ESV s for correct closure Weekly - Visually inspect hoses, valves and piping - Run pump motor for an hour on a dry day to vaporize water accumulation Monthly - Check pipe joints and other connections for leaks - Operate globe and ball shut-offs - Operate electrical E-stop - Check motor/pump drive couplings for correct alignment - Check coupling insert (rubber spider gear) for signs of wear - Visually inspect pull-away device and apply a light oil to sealing joint - Visually inspect fire extinguishers Quarterly - Clean y-strainer and meter screen - Lubricate pump bearings - Lubricate motor bearings Bi-annually - Tighten bolts and nuts - Inspect motor starter switch contact points - Pump performance test, bypass setting Annually - Recertify fire extinguishers - Review emergency action plan (or as needed for new employees) - Operator refresher training (or as needed for new employees) As needed - Clean area, paint tank and piping, refresh decals - Replace liquid filter cartridge (if applicable) according to manufacturer recommendations According to AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) - Scale proving - Meter proving Note: Always pressurize pump slowly with propane vapor prior to applying liquid flow.
