3 PLEASE KEEP THIS MANUAL IN A SAFE PLACE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE Electrical Safety Instructions The owner and/or the operator MUST read, understand and comply all points listed below. 1 You MUST check all electrical products, before use, to ensure that they are safe. 2 You MUST inspect plugs, sockets, power leads and any other connectors for wear or damage. 3 You MUST have any worn or damaged plugs, sockets and power leads replaced immediately upon discovery. 4 You MUST ensure that the risk of electric shock is minimised by the installation of appropriate safety devices. 5 A Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) should be incorporated in the main distribution board. - If no RCCB is fitted, use of a Residual Current Device (RCD) is strongly recommended. If you are unsure, speak to a qualified electrician and have an RCCB fitted if necessary. 6 RCDs are available from most electrical retailers. 7 The Electricity at Work Act 1989 requires that all portable electrical appliances, if used on commercial premises, should be tested using a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT) at least once a year. 8 The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 makes owners of electrical appliances responsible for the safe condition of those appliances and the safety of the appliance operators. If in any doubt about electrical safety, seek advice from the governing body or independent electrical training providers. 9 Ensure that the insulation on all cables and on the appliance are safe and intact before connecting it to the power supply. 10 Ensure that cables are always protected against short circuit and overload. 11 Regularly inspect power supply cables and plugs for wear or damage and check all connections to ensure that none is loose or damaged. 12 Ensure that the voltage rating of the tool matches your power supply and that the plug is fitted with the correct fuse. 13 Do not yank the plug from the socket as can cause damage to both plug and socket. Any damage to plugs or sockets is potentially lethal. 14 Never carry any electrical tool by it s power lead. 15 If you are using an extension reel, ensure that it is fully unwound and that an RCD is fitted. A minimum cable core of 1.5mm 2 is recommended although a core of 2.5mm 2 will ensure that heavy loads can be handled, if working at over 20m, then a core of 4mm 2 is strongly recommended. Your extension reel needs to be marked for outdoor use if working outside. 16 The Electricity at Work Act 1989 requires that all portable electrical appliances, if used on commercial premises, should be tested using a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT) at least once a year. 17 When the ASTA/BS approved UK 3 pin plug is damaged, cut the cable close to the plug and dispose of the it safely. Fit a new plug according to the following instructions; 1: Connect the BROWN live wire to the live terminal L. 2: Connect the BLUE neutral wire to the neutral terminal N. 3: After wiring, check that there are no bare wires, that all wires have been correctly connected, that the cable outer insulation extends beyond the cable restraint and that the restraint is tight. The plug fitted to this tool is fitted with a 13amp fuse. This product is double insulated and marked with this symbol. It is fitted with live (brown) and neutral (blue) wires only. 5 PLEASE KEEP THIS MANUAL IN A SAFE PLACE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE 40 Be aware of the dangers of working in or on and building or material containing asbestos. Always take a appropriate measures up to an including contracting licensed 3rd parties to remove and/or make safe and articles or asbestos. 41 If the material sprayed makes contact with eyes, skin or enters the respiratory system take appropriate measures as advised by the HSE and your own Health and Safety guidelines. If in doubt, seek medical help. 42 NEVER point air supply hose at yourself or others. 43 Be aware of the dangers and hazards of spraying isocyanate based paints. 44 Accidents involving power tools can be caused by over familiarity. Implement and encourage a disciplined work ethic at all times 45 NEVER use the polisher whilst the floor underfoot is wet or slippery. 46 NEVER use the polisher when standing on an unstable surface. 47 Always maintain the tool in top condition to keep it working safely and efficiently. Follow instructions and use a specialist 3rd party company if required. 48 DO NOT smoke whilst using this tool and to not allow bystanders to smoke nearby - smoking in a public place is not permitted under law. Switch off unit immediately if; 1 There is interruption of mains electrical supply such as in the case of a power cut. 2 There damage occurs to the socket, plug, cable or cable entry into the unit. 3 There is damage to the on/off switch on the unit. 4 There is a smell of burning plastic. 5 There is smoke coming from the motor housing. If in any doubt as to your own safety, cut the power at the main fuse board. Always familiarise yourself with the electrical layout of your work area. Operating Instructions Preparation To obtain the best results, it is important that you prepare the surface to be sprayed and thin the paint to the correct viscosity before you start work. Always ensure that the surface to be sprayed is free from dust, dirt, grease and other foreign bodies. Always mask the areas around the areas to be sprayed using good quality masking tape. The paint to be sprayed should be suited to the task and compatible with your spraygun. There should be no lumps or other particles. Make sure that you have a properly working strainer. Many substances can be sprayed with this gun but it is important that you check with your paint supplier before purchasing your paint. It is very important that you check the panel for signs of silicone contamination before starting work. Thinning Most paints are supplied ready for the type of application and applying technique but may have to be thinned for use with your spraygun. Always follow the paint manufactures advice on thinning paint. The viscosity cup supplied will help you determine the correct viscosity of the paint to be used. To measure the viscosity if the paint fill the cup to the brim and measure the length of time it take to empty. The table below shows the recommended times for different materials. Please note that this is intended as a guide only and you should advice from your paint supplier. Plastic & Latex 24-28secs Water based Paint 20-25secs Primers 24-28secs Varnishes 20-25secs Oil based paints 18-22secs Enamel paints 18-22secs Aluminium paints 22-25secs Car underseal 25-35secs Wood sealers 28-35secs Wood preservatives Not required Wood stains Not required If the paint takes longer than the recommended time to empty, further thinning is required. Mix a small quantity of the appropriate thinner and use the viscosity cup again until the required figure is achieved. Some paints contain lumps and particles and these should be strained before use. Spraying Fill the paint cup with the appropriately thinned paint and screw onto the gun. Connect the air hose and then plug in the mains supply and switch on. It is recommended that you use a test card or scrap panel to make sure that

6 Instruction Manual the paint is correct. This also aids comparison with existing paint work. Applying pressure to the trigger will start the spraying. To obtain a greater flow of paint, turn the fluid output control anti-clockwise. Turning it clockwise will reduce the paint flow. Be aware that adjusting this control also altered the spray pattern. A poor pattern will concentrate the spray towards the centre of the pattern, giving a lumpy blotchy finish. A good pattern will evenly distribute the paint throughout the pattern. To get best results, keep your spraygun level and at 90 o to the surface at all times (see Fig.1). Keep the nozzle mm from the surface and spray evenly from side to side or up and down. Spraying at an angle will lead to paint runs. Use smooth, even strokes. When spraygun large areas, use a criss-cross pattern as shown in Fig. 2. Never start or stop the gun whilst it is aimed at the workpiece. Too slow a pass will give a thin and patchy coat whilst too slow a pass will result in a heavy coat. Apply one coat at a time and observe manufacturers drying times before applying the next coat or finishing/polishing. Do not tip the gun more that 45 o. Fig. 1 Q Uneven finish created by arcing R mm Begin pass then Press Trigger Keep trigger pressure and passing speed consistant Release trigger then stop pass Fig. 2 Nozzle Positions Tall Narrow Jet Vertical Surfaces Flat Narrow Jet Horizontal Surfaces Round Jet Corners & Edges Hard to Reach Areas Incorrect Setting Ineffective or no spray pattern

7 PLEASE KEEP THIS MANUAL IN A SAFE PLACE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE To adjust the narrow fan from flat to narrow or vice versa, union nut clockwise or anti-clockwise to get the right setting. It is only possible to turn the union nut 90 o in any direction. Attempting to force it further will cause damage to the unit and invalidate the warranty. If spraying up or down, take off the cup and align the suction tube to suit the angle of spraying. See diagram, left. Maintenance 1 Remove plug from the mains power supply before carrying out any maintenance or cleaning. 2 Do not immerse the spraygun in water or use flammable cleaning agents with a flash point of less than 55 o C. 3 Remove the cup and pour any unused paint into a container and store safely for future use. 4 Clean the cup thoroughly with warm water or thinners. 5 Pour a small quantity of warm water or thinners in the cup and reattach it to the gun. 6 Reconnect to the mains power supply and switch the motor on. Spray the water or thinners at a test card or scrap metal until the liquid spray turns clear. Turn unit off and empty cup again. 7 Unscrew the air cap locking knob and remove the air cap and clean all parts thoroughly. 8 Do not clean nozzle or air holes with sharp metal tools. Filter Maintenance 1 Do not use this tool without a filter. Dust & debris can a be sucked into the motor, potentially causing permanent damage. 2 Release cover (3). You may need a flat blade screwdriver. 3 Remove filter (4). It is sometimes possible to clean the filter with a vacuum cleaner or air blower, make sure adequate protection is applied against airborne dust particles caused by cleaning. 4 Place cleaned/new filter back into machine with the smooth side facing into the machine. 5 Securely replace cover. Fitting Shoulder Strap 1 Follow the diagram to the right to fit the shoulder strap. 3 4
