2 Engine Oil & Filter Change Procedure The following procedure gives a systematic way of changing the Engine Oil and Filter of a model VW Caddy Type 2KN with a 1.9 L TDI Engine and a DSG Gearbox. The procedure is for a novice mechanic. The writer will accept no responsibility or liability for any mishaps or accidents. You use this procedure at your own risk. September 24,

3 What you need to carry out this procedure A 19 mm socket for the Engine Sump Drain Plug. A 32 mm socket for the Engine Oil Filter. A Tension Wrench calibrated in Nm (Newton Metres). A ½ male / female extension about 30 cm long. 4.3 litres of VW Specification Engine Oil. A Sump Oil Container for the sump oil. A container for the used oil filter. Plenty of clean lint free rags. Never rely on Hydraulic Jacks only! Block the rear wheels to stop the vehicle rolling backwards. Use the handbrake and put the gearbox in first gear or P on an automatic. September 24,

6 The Engine Oil Filler Plug may be difficult to remove the first time. September 24,

7 Use a sump oil container. They are big enough to hold twice the amount you are draining and have a handy pouring lip. September 24,

8 Use the 19 mm socket to remove the Engine Oil Sump drain plug. September 24,

9 Drain the sump into the waste oil container. September 24,

10 Gently unscrew the black oil filter cover using the 32 mm socket. September 24,

11 The filter will come out with the cover as it clips in with plastic lugs. September 24,

12 Clean the black filter top, remove the old O ring and carefully install the new O ring, which came with the new oil filter. Make sure the O ring is not twisted. The filter housing will drain into the engine oil sump. September 24,

13 Using clean lint-free rags wipe out the Oil Filter housing. September 24,

14 Check to make sure the new filter is the same as the one you just pulled out. September 24,

15 VW Caddy Type 2KN Engine Oil & Filter Change Procedure Gently push it into the housing and fill the filter housing with fresh oil. It takes about 200 ml to fill. September 24,

16 Smear a bit of oil on the O ring and push the black top onto the filter until it snaps into place, then gently screw the top back in the housing. Using a Torque Wrench, tighten the filter cover to 25 Nm (18.4 Foot-Pounds). September 24,

17 Screw the new sump drain plug in by hand and then use the 19 mm socket and a Torque Wrench to tighten the plug. Torque the plug to 30 Nm. (22.1 Foot-Pounds) Clean up around the plug. September 24,

Pour 4 litres of VW 507 00 oil into the top of the engine and let it settle for about 10

18 Pour 4 litres of VW oil into the top of the engine and let it settle for about 10 minutes. Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 meets the VW Specification. September 24,

19 The level on the dipstick should be between the marks. Refer to your VW Caddy Booklet. September 24,

20 It may take a few seconds of cranking for the oil light to go out. If the light does not go out you had too much air in the oil filter and the STOP light will come on in the dashboard centre display. Ask yourself the question: Did I completely fill the Oil Filter before I put the top back on? If you did, do not panic. Have another good look at the procedure and check off all items. If you followed the procedure, try again. The oil light should go out and the engine should start at the third attempt. Once the engine is running: Inspect the filter and sump drain plug for leaks. 21 Leave it for about 10 minutes and check the oil level again. Top up the oil if needed. September 24,

22 Drive the car for at least 12 Km to bring the engine oil to normal operating temperature. Check the Oil Filter and Sump Drain Plug area for leaks. If there no leaks pat yourself on the back, ring up the VW Dealer and ask them how much they will charge for the an Engine Oil and Filter change to: VW Long Life Specification. September 24,
