3 General Description of Product Arrow Farmquip s Q-Catch squeeze chute is our biggest success story. Now distributed internationally, the Q-Catch design has been proven to excel in safety, efficiency, and ease of operation. The Q-Catch was created with the simple goal of making a range of chutes that were easy, safe and enjoyable to use. The smooth as action, infinite locking head gate and Q-Squeeze are the cornerstone of Q-Catch design, delivering smooth, efficient operation every time. When our engineers reviewed the design to create the 400 Series, we stuck the quick, quiet, quality philosophy and sought out innovative ways to simplify make it even easier to operate, even stronger, and to prevent problems through effective design. 4 All Farming machinery and equipment is potentially dangerous. Careless Safety Precautions use may cause injury of damage to persons or property. Arrow Farmquip has taken all care in design and manufacture of this product to ensure it is safe and user friendly. The user must therefore assume all responsibility and risk associated with the possession and use of the cattle squeeze chute. 1) Ensure the operator understands the contents of this manual before using the cattle squeeze chute 2) Do Not wear loose clothing 3) Ensure the cattle squeeze chute is located in a firm, level, dry surface, free of rocks and other trip hazards(a level concrete pad flush with the ground is recommended, and the chute bolted to the concrete) 4) Do not allow children to be in close proximity of opening machine 5) Observe safe cattle handling procedures in other areas of the yard so that cattle are more docile in the cattle squeeze 6) Non factory modifications could reduce the safety of the operator 7) Conduct a risk assessment on procedures for which the cattle squeeze chute used and establish a safe work procedure. 5 Assembly Of Your Squeeze Chute (If Applicable) Generally your chute will come fully assembled with all the option you have ordered already fitted to the chute. Sometimes however it may be necessary to dismantle some parts for freight or other reasons. 6 Customising the Dropdown Handle Figure A Figure B Figure C Figure D To help avoid injury the operator handle disengages when not in use(figure A) To open the headgate there is no need to engage the handle To close the headgate the handle needs to be engaged If you wish to disable this feature you top handle bolt and reinsert it in the upper hole of the can undo the handle bracket (figure D) FIGURE See video Or call Q-Catch Manual Page 6

7 Ensure all Gates, head gate and crash gate(if fitted) are closed before animal is allowed entry Open rear sliding(or entry) gate for animal to enter squeeze chute enclosure Operating Head Gate Close entry gate Open headgate, slightly more than the neck size of the animal so as to tempt the animal to stick its head through the head gate. When neck of animal is in correct position quickly close the head gate securely on animals neck If required, side squeeze animal and secure head sweep into position to restrain further movement If animal applies excessive pulling pressure on headgate, it is advisable to install anti-backing bar behind animals rump Confirm animal is securely held before carrying out any husbandry work Q-Catch Manual Page 7

8 Arrow Farmquip Squeeze Chutes are designed for minimal maintenance however the following pointers can make your Chute last even longer Recommended MAINTENANCE Keep grease nipples on main handle control greased Oil slam latches, lube bolts on rolling gate rollers(see item 9 on page 5), door hinges periodically (recommended every 6 months) Clean bottom Head gate door tracks to prevent dirt build up Check Mechanism pivot bolts for wear and replace or lubricate as necessary Clean but do not oil or grease main locking shaft Inspect for signs of mechanical damage, especially to gate latches and striker plates ad ensure gates are locking securely Periodically a light lubrication of roller bolts (see item 10 on page 5) and headgate shaft (see item 5 on page 5) with WD40 might be necessary to ensure smooth and easy operation of the Q-Catch Headgate. This is only necessary if headgate doors become stiff or if releasing headgate becomes hard. Lubricate rollers by spraying a shot of lubricant directly onto the roller bolt on each side of the q-catch roller work headgate doors back and forth to work lubricant into rollers. Lubricate shaft by spraying a clean rag with WD40 until damp, take and wrap it around headgate shaft and using a sliding action go back and forth a COUPLE of times, you will need to do this while the headgate doors are closed, and also with the headgate doors are open to ensure that all the shaft is lubricated Q-Catch Manual Page 8

9 If you have a problem with your Q-Catch Squeeze chute please consider the following pointers or call us Trouble Shooting Guide 1) For ensure operation make sure headgate is situated on LEVEL ground or base. 2) If Headgate has minimal use over extended periods, this could cause headgate doors to become stiff to operate and releasing mechanism could become hard to release. This can be easily fixed by a light lubrication of roller bolts (see item 10 on page 5) and headgate shaft (see item 5 on page 5) with WD40. Lubricate rollers by spraying a shot of lubricant directly onto the roller bolt on each side of q-catch roller, work each headgate doors back and forth to work lubricant into rollers. Lubricate headgate shaft by spraying a clean rag with WD40 until damp, take rag and wrap it around headgate shaft and using a sliding action go back and forth a COUPLE of times, you will need to do this while the headgate doors are closed, and also with the headgate doors are open to ensure that all the shaft is lubricated. 3) Make sure headgate door tracks are free of debris to ensure easy a proper operation. 4) Excess build-up of manure or dirt inside chute can cause malfunction of squeeze and chute door operation. 10 5) If headgate doors are not locking, please ensure that headgate shaft is free of any oil, grease or dirt. Sometimes it may be necessary to clean Trouble Shooting Guide (cont.) headgate shaft and headgate rollers with brake cleaner this may involve disassembly of the headgate doors enabling removal of locking cell to ensure proper cleaning. 6) Check for wear headgate shaft, severe wear may cause friction lock to malfunction. 7) Check nuts and bolts on items (1 and 3 on page 5) and ensure that they are tightened correctly. Too tight will cause the locking and releasing of headgate doors to malfunction. Too loose will cause premature wear on headgate parts. 8) On the Q-Catch headgate there is 2 connecting leavers (See items 1 & 3 on page 5) between headgate handle pivot and headgate doors. These 2 connecting levers have a slot in them - check there is free movement for the length of this slot, and the lock nuts are correctly tightened. These levers also contact the release pins on the lock plates when the head gate handle is pulled back. Check there is an air gap between levers and release pins when headgate handles is being pushed or in an idle position. Q-Catch Manual Page 10
