4 SECTION 1 DOOR DESCRIPTION Custom designed and fabricated RF door, of nominal dimensions as described in project documents, with the following target characteristics: Performance Characteristics Magnetic Field: 200kHz Electric Field: 100db From 10mhz To 50MHz Plane Wave: 100db From 50mhz To 2.6GHz Acoustic: STC 40 Nominal The frame is fabricated to incorporate an engineered attachment flange for integrating the frame to the RF shielding of the existing room, which may be of various designs. Seal between the door and frame is achieved via soft conductive fabric gasket to jambs and head of the frame, and underneath the door leaf at the sill. The door is held in a secure latched position with a Sargent T Zone classroom lockset *, with ADA approved levers. Door leaf(s) are finished in a variety of materials, typically (unfinished) wood veneers or plastic laminates - check project specifics for finish applicable. With proper installation and care, the door should operate with a minimum of force to open or close, and swing very freely throughout its extended arc of up to 180 degrees, depending upon installation restrictions and construction methods. Doors with the automatic features have a 90 degree maximum radius. Care should be taken to prevent mechanical damage to the cosmetic surfaces, and the Customer may wish to add stainless steel or plastic wear surfaces to the door faces in areas expecting high volume of wheelchair or gurney transported patients. View windows set into the doors are optional. These are an Architectural feature that may enhance the aesthetics of the enclosure, and can be in any size or position required, from Hospital type view lites to full panel openings. 5 GENERAL CONSTRUCTION NOTE During the construction of the RF shielded room, the RF door is normally fully installed, operational and made ready for testing. The next stage is to complete as much of the interior finishes as possible. Care must be taken to instruct other building trades that there is a finished product installed, and that dust and dirt from dry walling, spackling and painting must be avoided. Spackle will cause blemishes to the frame, and should not be allowed to contact it. In case of accidental spills, this must be removed promptly. Dust and dirt will cause the door to malfunction, damage the gasket and cause premature failure. END OF SECTION 1

6 SECTION 2 DOOR OPERATIONS EXTERIOR AUTOMATIC FUNCTIONS: Use card reader or push button to open door EXTERIOR MECHANICAL FUNCTIONS: Use Cylindrical Lock to open door INTERIOR AUTOMATIC FUNCTIONS: Use push button to open door INTERIOR MECHANICAL FUNCTIONS: Use Cylindrical Lock to open door SECURITY FUNCTIONS: From exterior use key in cylindrical lock to secure door mechanically. If card reader is used automatic function will remain operable with card. 7 SECTION 3 CLEANING PROCEDURE PLEASE NOTE: To keep the factory warranty in effect, it is the responsibility of the owner or end user to properly maintain a preventive maintenance program of door cleaning to insure proper operation. See paragraphs below for how to setup a schedule. Unpainted and exposed contact areas of the RF door, frame and the sill, should be cleaned with an oil free cleaner and lint free cloth or paper wipes. These products are available from Global Partners in Shielding, Inc. - see spare parts list. Silicon based lubricants (i.e. WD40), abrasive pads, abrasive cleaning products or polish should NOT be used, except as specified. For very heavy or greasy build-ups on the flat contact areas, a Scotch-Brite pad should be used lightly and, with sparing regularity. Rather, regular cleaning of the door and proper cycle changes of HVAC air filters should avoid excess dirt build up in local systems. The RF gasket on the jamb, head and bottom of the door should be inspected for damage. Floor wax, dirt and grease will be detrimental to the function of the RF seal at the door bottom, and should be removed. Instruct staff in the area not to apply cleaning products (floor polish) to the sill, or any other functional parts of the door assembly. Compressed air (in an aerosol can) or a soft brush should be used to remove dust and dirt from around the gasket and at bottom of the door. Mechanical cleaning must be exercised with care so as not to damage the RF gasket. Maintenance to the door lock should be as per the manufacturer s instructions, if at all necessary. The lock is installed with a variety of special RF gaskets and factory modifications. A factory-authorized representative should handle replacement of the lock. Recommended schedule for cleaning the door will depend upon the use pattern, environmental conditions and other unknown and possibly variable site conditions. The door should be inspected weekly upon initial installation, and a cleaning / maintenance schedule developed locally, with an absolute minimum recommendation of once per month. Differentials in air pressure either side of the shielded door will cause dust and debris to accumulate in the RF seal, limiting performance, as it will act as an air filter. Care should therefore be exercised to ensure a zero airflow rate through the door s RF seal when closed. The use of safety glasses and appropriate personal safety equipment whilst performing the above procedures should be mandatory for inspection and cleaning of this product. END OF SECTION 3

8 SECTION 4 RF GASKET REPLACEMENT a) Door sill area: With the door blocked in the open 90º, carefully remove the screws on the sweep plate with the appropriate tool. Once the sweep is removed peel off the old fabric-over-foam gasket or peel and stick copper fingers (see recommendations below) and clean off any glue residues (see glue removal instructions below). Install a new gasket - may be cut to length with standard scissors as required. Replace the sweep in reverse order as above instructions. Adjust sill so that gasket is slightly compressed when door is closed, but does not contact floor on opening. Copper Fingers are recommended for doors with high traffic usually found in hospital settings. Fabric-over-foam gasket recommended for doors with moderate to low traffic. b) Door jambs and head: With the door blocked in the open 90º, carefully peel away the old gasket and clean off any glue residues (see glue removal instructions below). Install a new gasket - may be cut to length with standard scissors as required. Cycle the door a few times and check that the gasket remains in place. Gasket remove instructions: With a sharp razer remove the majority of the glue residues. Once the bulk of the residue is removed apply acetone to rag and wipe the remainder off. If there is still residue then use Scotch Brite pad can be used to remove. (Use pad in the same direction as the metal grain to avoid any cosmetic blemishes) END OF SECTION 4

Global Partners in Shielding, Inc. will be happy to furnish alternate locks upon request AUTOMATIC FEATURE NOTE: Proper lubrication of latching mechanism is essential to prevent product failure. Grease reduces friction and protects the surface finish from rust during long idle periods and in unfavorable environmental conditions. Since latch mechanisms life depends on proper lubrication, it is important to lightly grease at the correct intervals (recommended annually).
