3 FOREWORD This test report details a fire resistance test conducted on a shaftwall partition system. The test sponsor was. The test specimen was installed by British Gypsum. The construction of the specimen took place on the th September. designed and selected the materials comprising the test specimen. The test date was the 7 th September. This report details the method of construction, the test conditions and the results obtained when the specific element of construction described herein was tested following the procedures outlined in EN 6, and where appropriate EN 6. Any significant deviation with respect to size, constructional details, loads, stresses, edge or end conditions other than those allowed under the field of direct application in EN is not covered by this report. Because of the nature of fire resistance testing and the consequent difficulty in quantifying the uncertainty of measurement of fire resistance, it is not possible to provide a stated degree of accuracy of the result. REPORT AUTHORISATION Report Author Authorised by Brian Willson Test Report Writer Eur Ing. Paul Howard BSc. (Hons.), CEng., MIOA Head of Laboratory will not discuss the content of this report without written permission from the test sponsor. retains ownership of the test report content but authorises the test sponsor to reproduce the report as necessary in its entirety only. 4 TEST CONSTRUCTION The specimen was constructed in a refractory concrete lined steel restraint frame having an opening of 5mm high x mm wide. A continuous Glasroc FS FireStrip was applied to the centreline of a Gypframe 6mm Shaftwall J channel (6JC7). The channel was then fixed to the head of the restraint frame aperture using 6mm Hilti Hus fixings at mm centres (long flange to exposed face). Gypframe 6mm Shaftwall floor channel (6C5) was fixed to the base of the restraint frame aperture using 6mm HiltiHus fixings at 6mm centres. Gypframe 6mm Shaftwall starter channel (6SC) was fixed to the left hand side of the restraint frame aperture (viewed from the unexposed face) using HiltiHus fixings at 6mm centres. The starter channel was cut short by 5mm to accommodate the designed deflection. A 6mm Gypframe 6I7 stud (cut short by 5mm) was positioned between the head and base channels adjacent to the right hand side of the restraint frame aperture (viewed from the unexposed face) but not fixed. A 5mm Rockwool Firebatt gasket was inserted between the channel and the restraint frame. The stud was tabbed to gain a height of 5m i.e. the flanges of an I stud were trimmed leaving a mm flat web extension which was then fixed to an adjoining I stud with 4 Gypframe wafer head screws. The Tab was positioned 6mm from the base of the stud. 6mm Gypframe 6I7 studs (cut short by 5mm) were positioned between the head and base channels at 6mm centres. The studs were tabbed to gain a height of 5m. The Tab was positioned 6mm from the base of the stud. One layer of 9mm Gyproc CoreBoard (also cut 5mm short at the head) was inserted into spaces between the studs. The Core board was secured in position with Gypframe G retaining channel inserted into the spaces between the board and the stud flanges. Horizontal CoreBoard joints were 5mm and mm from the base. Two mm Gyproc CoreBoard fire stops, comprising two layers of 9mm Gyproc CoreBoard 6mm wide, were pushed fully up into the web of the head channel and fixed using two mm Gyproc Drywall screws for each 6mm wide pair through the head channel flange. mm fire stops were fixed to Gypframe GA angle sections (inserted into the horizontal board joints) using three mm Gyproc Drywall screws per fire stop, plus beads of sealant top and bottom. Customer: BTC 6F: Page 4 of 7

5 Gyproc Sealant was applied in the angle formed by the restraint frame and the head channel on the unexposed face. An inner layer of 5mm Gyproc Fireline was fixed to the unexposed face to all framing members (except the head channel) at mm centres using mm Gyproc Drywall screws (horizontal joint was positioned mm from the base). An outer layer of 5mm Gyproc Fireline was fixed to the unexposed face to all framing members (except the head channel) at mm centres using mm Gyproc Drywall screws (horizontal joint was positioned mm from the base). Gypframe GFS Fixing strap was used to back the outer layer horizontal joint. The outer layer board joints were finished with Gyproc joint tape and Gyproc joint filler. All screw heads were spotted with Gyproc joint filler. Customer: BTC 6F: Page 5 of 7

9 TEST PROCEDURE The test was conducted fully in accordance with BS EN :999. The specimen was subjected to fire from one side, as specified in BS EN :999. The test specimen was not symmetrical and should therefore be tested in both orientations. No performance can be claimed for the partition system if installed with the corridor side exposed to the furnace, without a separate test being undertaken to substantiate this orientation. The test procedure used was EN Issue. The ambient temperature at the commencement of the test was 9 o C. The furnace pressure head was located at a height of metres and the pressure was maintained at ± Pa positive with respect to the atmosphere, except during the first 5 minutes of the test and at 4 8 and minutes. The test conditions did not meet the full requirements of BS EN 6:999 as the furnace linings and test frame stiffness did not fully comply. The test centre is of the opinion that these deviations from the documented method will not unduly effect the result of the test. TEST RESULTS The requirements of the standard were satisfied for the following periods: Integrity: Insulation: minutes No Integrity failure. (The test having been discontinued at the request of the sponsor) 8 minutes (Roving thermocouple exceeded 8 deg C.) The test was terminated at minutes. Customer: BTC 6F: Page 9 of 7

10 LIMITATIONS The results only relate to the behaviour of the specimen of the element of construction under the particular conditions of test; they are not intended to be the sole criteria for assessing the potential fire performance of the element in use nor do they reflect the actual behaviour in fires. The specification and interpretation of fire test methods are the subject of ongoing development and refinement. Changes in associated legislation may also occur. For these reasons it is recommended that the relevance of test reports over 5 years old should be considered by the user. The laboratory that issued the report will be able to offer, on behalf of the legal owner, a review of the procedures adopted for a particular test to ensure that they are consistent with current practices, and if required may endorse the test report.
