Welcome to the deep freeze that is December and the Holiday season. Which means it is time to dig deep into the stash and come up with a White Elephant gift for your fellow RPM members to fight over. Try and bring something people would want bad enough to steal. Let s see some action this year in the White Elephant exchange. And, the quick recap, you bring in a wrapped complete car kit, hopefully a race car kit. Toss it on the pile and get a number. For those of you who built your White Elephant from last years exchange, you get a high number so, you get to pick a gift after all of us who did not get their White Elephant done. Yes, I am guilty, I did not get mine built this year. As an added bonus this year if you finished your White Elephant there will be a random drawing for a $20 VISA gift card, donated by Clint. So, if you are close to finishing your White Elephant. Lose some sleep and get it done. It does not have to be pretty. When your number comes up you have the choice of picking a wrapped gift off the pile or stealing a gift that someone else has already unwrapped and we go on this way until all the numbers have been run through and so everyone gets a chance to steal I ll take number 1 and start everything off. This month is also our pizza party, so show up ready to eat pizza. The meeting will start at the normal time 1:00pm at the Edina library. The business we will be handling at the meeting will be dues, the club election, and a quick vote on a theme for next years club challenge. Dues are ten dollars for those of you that have not paid, yet. See Bill. The election for club officers will be a handed out ballot, just make your mark. The Club Challenge themes that have been suggested so far are: 1950s race cars, Weathered race cars, and Resin. For resin to count the kit would either have to be a complete resin kit or at least a resin body shell. More than resin tires and a few dress up parts. If you have another idea for the club challenge theme bring it with you and we will give it a hearing before we vote. Well, that does it for me, as always see you at the meeting and bring in your finished White elephants. Bob.

2 Model of the Month... built by Erik Zabel For years now, a very humble Erik Zabel has amazed the club with his superb builds. This year he did not let us down yet again. Taking first place in the Straightline Competition class at the club contest was his Pure Heaven II. Starting with an AMT Winged Express kit, Erik scratch built most of the front half of the chassis and suspension. Also, in typicall Zabel fashion, possable steering was added along with a pair of aftermarket resin spoke wheels. More resin was used with a Competition Resin Bantam body. A matching set of Slixx decals finished this tiny beast off sharp. The motor cleanly displays one of Erik s best talents. Details such as wiring and plumbing, subtle weathering and the clean assembly make this engine a model in itself. If you ever attend a meeting or contest and have a chance, don t miss checking out one of Erik s drag cars. The perfection of some of his builds is something to behold. Lets start 2014 off with something easy... ON THE BENCH Just like it sounds... bring your in-progress builds to let everyone see what you been (or not been) working on lately. Of course a finished one or two is always welcome at the table too.

5 A F 1 Holy Grail? CAUTION - not for the faint of heart! Although its a 1/8 scale model, I ran across this kit in some pictures posted on the Car Model Maniac - 1/43 Fan Page on Facebook. At first glance, I passed it by, but later I came back to it to look at all the parts bags and photoetch pictures. The more I learned about this kit, the more I was blown away. This is truly a kit for the serious F1 fan and builder. At the time of the internet article, the buyer paid over $3800 for the kit and $200 to ship it to Japan. It seems only 200 had been produced and each came with a Certificate of Origin and Registration Number. Perhaps you get what you pay for though. Kit comes complete with carbon fiber body shell and belly pan. Many sheets of photoetch and cast metal parts also make this kit a site to see.
