1 Calumet Abrasives Product Catalog Our Abrasive Cutting Laboratory is the core of our business and what sets us apart from commodity based manufacturers. Our cutting wheel designs are evaluated on a regular basis to search for the most efficient combination of abrasives, bonds and reinforcement for the maximum productivity and safety on the job. Our primary target is the cut-off wheel. In recent years portable cutoff wheels have proven to be one of the most useful tools in the fabrication industry. As that trend is predicted to continue we, as a company, strive to produce a cut-off wheel that is safety tested, and quality driven. Calumet Abrasives, Co., Inc., has owned its own laboratory for the past 30 years of operation, allowing us to focus on the three most important aspects of the business: quality, performance and safety. 2 A little cheat sheet: Wheel design Wheel thickness the thinnest wheel is not always the best for the job. Thin wheels are best for a quick efficient cuts on thin gauage material. A rip cut on heavier gauge stock might require a stiffer more heavily reinforced product to stand up to the job. Safety All our wheel designs are tested for their ultimate failure speed. Lighter weight reinforced wheels cut faster and are more flexible but have a lower failure speed. Heavier guage reinforced wheels are stiffer hold the cut line better and have a higher final failure speeed. The right abrasive Selecting the correct abrasive is key to efficient cutting.
