13 How the energy system works Green Motorsport will use a combination of portable, mobile and stationary sustainable energy systems to supply its electric karts, demonstration kit and display equipment. Hydrogen will be manufactured using an electrolyser and then stored onboard the transporter. The hydrogen will then be stored in advanced composites and hydride storage systems and released on demand into a fuel cell system that generates the power needed to charge the electric karts for each race. Green Motorsport will use solar panels (photovoltaics), micro wind turbines and bio fuels to provide an un-interruptible power supply for the pit crews. This energy is safe and very reliable and any excess energy generated will be sold back to The National Grid. Through the use of renewable energy systems and technologies we plan to demonstrate their viability and prove that they can be used effectively in this environment and in a wide range of associated applications. 11

15 Drivers Drivers from the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow programme who have outstanding potential will be selected to race in the Green Motorsport series by an expert panel including Carolynn Hoy, Director of BRDC Stars of Tomorrow. However, we would like to give every driver the opportunity to get involved in some capacity, whether it be preparing the vehicles for testing, race setup or generating ideas either to improve their performance or learning about new technology and environmental issues. The karts will also provide young drivers with the opportunity to refine their driving skills whilst testing the vehicles. 13

16 Endorsements "The initial acceleration of the Green Motorsport electric kart was very quick, and the overall feeling was different to a petrol-powered vehicle. Kart racing is all about the tyres and the way you manage and conserve them, and without the noise from an engine, one could understand the dynamics and profiles of the tyres with greater accuracy and sense the grip levels of each wheel. I was therefore able to control the kart more precisely, and my driving technique became smoother and more energy efficient as a result, compressing my learning curve. I look forward to testing the new kart using state-of-the-art energy storage technology and understanding the potential of the systems both on and off the track." 18 Education Education is an important part of our work, and Green Motorsport is establishing a non-profit organisation, which aims to: 1. Raise awareness of climate change and what can be done about it. 2. Inspire young people to work towards a sustainable future. 3. Teach practical skills in sustainable energy. This work will be done in partnership with schools, colleges, universities, local authorities, charities and other organisations. Green Motorsport will teach drivers how to handle electric motors and control systems, batteries and fuel cells, as well as the principles of aerodynamics. They will learn how energy can be harnessed from clean, renewable sources and the most efficient methods of using that energy in their homes and on the track. 16

19 Education Green Motorsport will be working to educate the drivers, their families and the general public, using eye-catching mobile displays, demonstrations, and audio-visual presentations that will travel with us to every race. We will also join forces with local authorities and schools to deliver a roadshow in the off-season. Discussions are currently underway with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) to introduce electric vehicles within Formula Student, which challenges university students to design, build, develop and compete as a team with a small single seater racing car. The Society of Automotive Engineers in the US are also interested in how we can work together in this fast developing field. 17

24 Media Channels Key elements of our media package are as follows: Company branding of karts, trailer, billboards and race wear. Television coverage on Sky as part of the dedicated Stars of Tomorrow Championship programme. Newsprint coverage via the Car & Driving regional news network, reaching over 4 million people weekly. Green Motorsport has demonstrated its ability to attract major media players. In 2005 CNN featured our project as part of its Global Challenges series. The feature, televised globally, was broadcast repeatedly through March and April. Other networks have also expressed an interest in working with us. 22
