2 How to connect ac motor in delta-star configuration 1 THE PROJECT SUMMARY E World (Better Electro World) is a project based on the idea that VET (Vocational Education and Training) improve the method of learning, if a student acquires vocational qualifications trough the good samples of practices on peer learning and project based implementations. The main reason for this project is to reduce the educational barriers of VET, with the purpouse of the student be more successful and proactive. The idea of this project appears after finding that participants have a lot needs and problems in commun, wich is an excellent for participating in a European partnership. In the implementation of this project, "Learn & Do", step one is improved and reinforced through step two "Learn &Teach". We aim to train trainees/workers for reaching good quality with an international knowledge, vocational and individual skills, relevant to working life. That will increase their employability not only on their national market but also in the EU labor market. In addition, this will increase the frame for their lifelong learning.

4 How to connect ac motor in delta-star configuration 3 Electric Induction Motor An induction motor is a type of electric motor that converts electric power into rotary motion. An induction motor uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to cause the rotor to turn. The induction motor was created and patented by Nikola Tesla in Electric current is supplied to the stator, which induces a magnetic field that rotates. The rotating magnetic field interacts with the rotor, inducing current in the rotor. The interaction of the two magnetic fields results in a torque, turning the rotor within the motor casing. Because the induction motor does not use brushes like DC motors, there is less wear of the internal parts.

5 4 How to connect ac motor in delta-star configuration Star-delta starter The Star Delta Starter is a very common type of starter and is used extensively as compared to the other type of starting methods of the induction motor. A star delta is used for a cage motor designed to run normally on the delta connected stator winding. The connection of a three-phase induction motor with a star delta starter is shown in the figure below.

6 How to connect ac motor in delta-star configuration 5 When the switch S is in the START position, the stator windings are connected in the star as shown below. When the motor picks up the speed, about 80 percent of is rated speed, the switch S is immediately put into the RUN position. As a result, a stator winding which was in star connection is changed into DELTA connection now. The delta connection of the stator winding in shown in the figure below.

7 6 How to connect ac motor in delta-star configuration Firstly, the stator winding is connected in star and then in Delta so that the starting line current of the motor is reduced to one-third as compared to the starting current with the windings connected in delta. When the induction motor starts the windings of the stator are star connected, each stator phase gets a voltage VL/ 3. Here VL is the line voltage. Since the developed torque is proportional to the square of the voltage applied to an induction motor. Star delta starter reduces the starting torque to onethird that is obtained by direct delta starting.

8 How to connect ac motor in delta-star configuration 7 Wiring Materials Asynchronous motor: Asynchronous motor is an AC electric motor in which the electric current in the rotor needed to produce torque is obtained by electromagnetic induction from the magnetic field of the stator winding. An induction motor can therefore be made without electrical connections to the rotor. An induction motor's rotor can be either wound type or squirrel-cage type.

12 How to connect ac motor in delta-star configuration 11 Things to Be Aware Of I. Be careful not to leave any open space when insulating the cables with tape after connecting the cables. II. Be careful not to tighten the screws too much when installing the bell because the bell may III. break. Be careful not to damage the conductors when opening the terminals IV. The screw terminals of the transformer's terminals must be properly tightened. If it is tightened too much, the cables may be torn off. If tightened, the cables may become clamped, and the cables may become arcing due to their loosening. V. When connecting the cables to the materials, connect them in the screw tightening direction.
