The stators are hand-wound in an optimal pattern for copper packing, so we get less resistance for a given number of turns. The stator plates are produced via a CNC process that insures uniformity, and made of the latest Japanese silicon steel with superior permeability at high induction, which makes the motors run more efficiently. The stator plates are finished with a lifetime anti-oxidant coating, to eliminate losses which can occur due to magnetic shorting from corrosion. The new Z40 Series Hyperion Outrunners are big brothers to the immensely popular Z30 motors, and share their quality in materials and design. From front to back, only the highest quality materials and components are used. The arrangement of twelve stator poles and fourteen magnet poles is primarily responsible for the high torque the Z40 Series generates on direct drive. The magnets are especially made for the Z Series motors, and are rounded on both bell and stator sides. The result is that contact area with the bell is complete, and this has two benefits: First, heat transfer is maximized, so the magnets are much less subject to damage from overheating. Second, the full contact with the bell on one side, and matching curvature to the stator on the other, means that the magnetic flux lines are complete and optimally shaped; this means higher efficiency, lower incidence of motor stalling, and smoother starts. The magnets themselves are produced in one of the foremost factories in the world, and are the latest type, featuring both an extremely high temperature rating and high magnetic strength. They are retained by fingers in the bell-end, and attached with a special high-temp glue made for the
2 Seite 2 von 5 Japanese space program. It's just about impossible to throw a magnet with these motors. Finally, the high-speed, shielded stainless bearings in the Z40 Series are made by NMB Japan; expensive for Hyperion to install, but well worth it for smoothness and longevity. One of the most important design features of the Z40 series is the large ring bearing which supports the rotating bell at the front of the motor (see pic above). During the development process on the Z40, we found that many failures of large OutRunner motors can be traced to deformation in the bell at higher rpm. By installing this ring bearing in the Z4025 to Z4045 motors, we fully support the bell both at front and back of the motor, and therefore greatly reduce the chances of magnet-adhesion failures. The Z4020 motor is short enough that the ring bearing is not required. The Hyperion Titan ESC are a perfect match for the motors: TITAN-80-PO for Z4020 and Z4025 4S to 5S lithium HP-TITAN-90HV-P0 for any Z40 on 5S to 10S lithium Use 4.0mm Gold bullet connectors for Motor<>ESC We recommend Dean's Ultra for Battery<>ESC connections If you can't mount a motor, what use is it? So we introduce three mounting options for you... Option 1: Backmount the motor using #HP-Z40- BKMNT Set. Pictured on left assembled, and in smaller picture on right with all parts included shown. The aluminum spacers you see allow adjustment in 5mm increments from 5mm to maximum. Option 2: Mounting the motor directly to a nose plate. The Z40 motors have M4 mounting holes in the nose, which are steel inserts pressed into the aluminum. These inserts guarantee that you can tighten the motor down properly, but without stripping the threads. 25mm spacing of the mounting holes (standard for class motors) means that the motors will fit "as is" in many models. Option 3: Use HP-Z40-FRTMNT as pictured right, to mount the motor to firewall of the model. This mount is adjustable for a wide range of lengths, and is very rigid, which is especially important for powerful OutRunners. For this mount, or for "option 2" above, use HP-ADAP-8-60XL Collet Prop Adapter to fit your prop (Z40 motor shafts are in diameter). Requires prop hole to be drilled to 8mm. The 8mm shaft on the collet prop adapter and backmount adapter is long enough to allow fitting most backplate-type spinners. We strongly recommend Hyperion ( #HP-LPRING- EP-S8 ) Precision 8mm Smooth adapter rings for use with APC "E" propellers, to insure a precise fit and less vibration. Keep in mind that, with certain battery/motor combinations, the Z40 motors are capable of
3 Seite 3 von 5 over-driving "Electric" version props like APC "E" series. As such, you may consider using APC SPORT, APC PATTERN, or Wood props made for IC engines in that case. STAY BEHIND THE ROTATING PROP AT ALL TIMES!! Here are the motor specifications below. We are now working on and application which matches dynamometer data to our database of measured prop constants, to make an accurate calculation of performance for any combination of motor, battery, and propeller. We hope to have this completed by Jan 15th 2006 (really!! Watch this spot for link). As general rules, most motor setups will produce 6000 to 8000 rpm, with a few choices up to 10,000 rpm. Max allowed free rpm is 12,000 rpm, but in general a larger prop turning more slowly will yield best results. The Z is the one exception on 5S with APC 11x7 SPORT Prop, which yields rpm at 67A (static, fresh charge. Avg flight current will fall to about 57A max), and exceeds 12,000 rpm with 10x7 SPORT prop. The Z S setup is intended for direct conversion of "46" glow-power models when maximum power is required and props larger than 11" cannot be mounted. Motor Data Z4020 Series The Z4020 series are the lightest, most powerful solution available today for conversion of glow "40" class models (4-cycle 52~70), and Electric models such as the Hyperion YAK54 "40" Electric 3D. The Z4020 Series are most appropriate for models in the weight range of 1.7~4.0Kg (3.7~8.8 lbs), depending on the model type. We recommend the Z in most "40" kit conversions, 5S lithium, with APC "E" props in the range 13x8 to 14x7. Peak current of about 60A with 5S (1000W peak) is enough to provide performance well exceeding glow engines. Light Models, Scale models (Piper Cub, etc), or Trainer models with lower wingloading will perform well on Z to Z motors using only 4S lithium packs, or good NiMH 12-cell such as IB For 3D/Aerobatic applications, models will typically weigh 1.8~2.5Kg (4~5.5 lbs), and we suggest Z with 15x8 prop for 3D/Aerobat mix, or Z with 16x8 to 16x10 for primary 3D use. Both motors should use 5S HP-LVX3300 to LVX3700, or HP-LCL S lithium packs. (4S can be used for models with AUW of 1.8~2.0Kg). In many cases the Z4020 may be too light to properly balance the model, or you may need to run at higher power levels. In these cases the Z4025 fits better, and gives some "overhead", performing with high efficiency at the 1000W level. Typically, Z4025 use 5S to 6S lithium packs.
