1 Volume 44 Issue 1 January 2018 Welcome to the new year Why do new years come around so fast? In December we had our annual Christmas and Installation Dinner held at Coco s Restaurant. There was a full Crowd of about 24 members and the evening reveale3d a good meal and a lot of friendship. In case you missed it, Carole Bennett was awarded a picture of her 1955 Thunderbird with a large bandage across the right front fender. Ouch!! December also is our month for our Christmas Homes Lights Tour. We had about ten cars in the tour and the tour went without any problems. Traffic was light and open and no one got lost. We did have one car that had some difficulty in starting, but a jumper cable was located (apparently not carried by everyone) and off we went. Note: the painters house need painting and the mechanics car has no jumper cables?? Anyhow, after the great little tour and we ended up at the Round Table Pizza for a club treat!!! The club will provided several pizza s and soft drinks. Kind of makes any evening good, but this was a success. We have scheduled a tour to the Nethercutt Automotive Museum. There are two parts to the museum, we will be going to the Main Building for a complete tour including the great organs and very classic automobiles. We have requested a tour of the shop but as of yet we have received word. To be announced soon. We will (of course) have a lunch following the Nethercutt tour. (January 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31st) JACK IN THE BOX We have a new location at Jack in the Box restaurant located next to the Home Depot at Rye Cyn (Copper Hill) and Newhall Ranch Road. Enjoy a really and full menu from burgers to salads to ice cream in a peaceful and quiet evening Starting time is 6 pm. 2

3 First we went to Coco s to have a Christmas and 1018 Installation Dinner. Later in the month we had our Christmas Homes Lights Tour Ended at Round Table Pizza At the Round Table Pizza they prepared some 6 to 8 pizzas and also provided their private party room. I would have to say that everyone enjoyed the evening!!! 3 The secret is to choose the table to sit (as pizza s are delivered) and how to look hungry after two pieces!!!!

4 .On January20th a tour of the Nethercutt Main Museum and we requested an additional tour of the Assembly Shop Nethercutt Museum Tour of the Main Building!! January 20 th (Saturday) 10:00 am tour with lunch following!! The tour is set for 10 AM and if the Shop Area tour is accepted, we should finish at about 11 AM. Then we go to lunch as it has been scheduled. More information to follow but we expect to meet at 8:30 am and depart at 9 am on the tour date. Meet everyone in the parking area behind Walgreens (Bridgeport off Newhall Ranch Road). The tour of the shop area is always a separate request and we should hear from the Nethercutt personnel soon Ron Mosher continues his seminars on How the Ford Model A was built. 5 Has anyone informed you that dues are due? Dues for our club and the National AACA are due by December 31st. Our dues are $20 and national are $40. The address to mail a check are posted the top of page 2! (this is the cover) (this is page 13 a spare month) Yes we have printed a full club calendar for Calendars were given out at the Christmas Dinner and if you did not get one or wish another, see Bob Caldwell. The hook (!) is that is not free but a $5 buck donation is requested for the club. They are neither easy nor free to produce

6 Regional freeway license plate readers Local law enforcement are planning to spearhead a collaborative, interconnected system of wireless cameras and microphones on Highway 4 and 80 after a noted increase in freeway shooting in recent years. The project called the Freeway Security Network will wirelessly combine cameras automated license plate readers and microphones to law enforcement agencies. The District Attorney s office, Caltrans and California Highway Patrol will work with the local sheriff s office. In 2016, the city of Pittsburg installed 14 cameras and six automated license plate readers that captured 42.3 million images of license plates traveling through their city. According to police this netted 160 arrests and assisted in the recovery of 162 stolen vehicles. California Considers Taxing Drivers Per Mile California is moving closer to charging drivers for every mile they drive. The state says it needs more money for road repairs, and the gas tax just isn t bringing in enough revenue. The Road Charge Pilot Program is billed as a way for the state to move from its longstanding pump tax to a system where drivers pay based on their mileage. State Senator Scott Wiener and others are saying tht when it comes to road taxes, it s time to start looking at charging you by the mile rather than by the gallon. If you own an older vehicle that is fueled by gasoline, you re paying gas tax to maintain the roads. Someone who has an electric vehicle or a dramatically more fuel-efficient vehicle is paying much less that you are. But they still using the roads, Wiener said Other Stuff happening around the SCV Informal Car Meet On every Saturday morning from 6:30 am to 8:30 am, there is an open house car meeting held adjacent the K-Mart (Valencia Blvd at Bouquet Cyn). It just a place to meet and to view others automobiles. Just meet and discuss the love of all cars. It s called Coffee N Cars and it is located in front of the Wester Bagel Shop. No trophies and no entrée fee 6

7 There are many new laws, here are but a few. Marijuana: Recreational Use: Just recently voted into law and allowed effective January 1, Californians age 21 and older can buy up to one ounce of marijuana but it is only legal in certain cities and counties will allow retail sales of marijuana. Sales can only take place in a business registered with the state. Also, expands the existing laws that control the use of alcohol in cars to include the use of marijuana. The new law makes it illegal to smoke or ingest marijuana while driving or while riding as a passenger in a vehicle. Guns and Ammunition Sales: Ammunition purchases will have to be made in person through an authorized vendor. Online sales are still allowed, but the ammunition must be shipped to a licensed vendor. Automobile Window Tinting: Drivers with certain medical conditions will be allowed to tint vehicle windshields and front and rear windows. A dermatologist certification will be required to show the driver has a medical condition, such as Lupus, that makes them sensitive to ultraviolet rays. Drivers license gender: Californians can choose their sexual identity on their driver s license as either female, male or non-binary (any gender identity which does fit the male and female binary) Your ordered your Tesla Model S and The Tesla Model S has a price range from (basic) $79,000, (well-equipped) $82,200 and (loaded) at $99,200. There are 7 variants models to choose: 60, 60D, 75, 75D, 90D, 100D and the P100D. The digits refer to the kilowatt (kwh) capacity of the battery and range. The D equates to dual-motor and all-wheel drive. Buyers can always upgrade if desired.
