2 (R)EVOLUTION: FROM DEVELOPMENT TO SUCCESS MASO SINE PUMP: The gentle path to efficiency Success doesn t come just like that: Since 1961, MASO in Ilsfeld near Heilbronn (Baden-Württemberg) have been concentrating their efforts in one area - the design, manufacture and sales of special steel positive displacement pumps. Initially the emphasis lay with the wine industry. Manfred Sommer senior developed a special pump system, which proved to be the solution to a problem which other pumps failed to address: how to convey crushed grapes, complete with stalks, from the vats to the presses. This was to become the foundation for further companies and production. By the mid-seventies, its use had spread to the food industry. In 1976, the innovative MASO PLANET PUMP appeared. Its name is synonymous with the principle of its function - four planets, located in the interior of the pump casing rotating about their own axes. The company began marketing a further design success in 1984, with the MASO SINE PUMP. Experts called it a Pump technology of genius. And for good reason. For at this time thick matter pump technology was regarded as incapable of further development. MASO proved that the opposite was true, by using progressive technology, including the application of CAD. The MASO SINE PUMP was a technological (r)evolution. The journal literature said MASO has virtually reinvented the positive displacement pump with its SINE PUMP. 3 a method of safely pumping these products in a highly gentle manner. The fact that this principle of gentleness is of great value and perfectly suited to the job can be seen by the results in practice: The difference to the product before and after the pumping process is hardly discernible. Performance power for the most varied of products: MASO SINE PUMP - Displacement of up to litres per hour. The basis of the principle on which the MASO SINE PUMP functions is a special steel disc containing two curves similar to sine waves, unlike other positive displacement pumps, which have gyroscopes, planets, pistons, etc. This ingeniously simple principle has proved to be extraordinarily effective. Even if the material to be transported is particularly thick or viscous... a displacement volume of l/h can be achieved The recognition of the trade has been directed unreservedly at the performance power of the MASO SINE PUMP and its gentle way of conveying thick and viscous products... and with a displacement volume of up to l/h. Technical advance assured As a result of its continual design improvements and optimisation of the MASO SINE PUMP, the company has succeeded in assuring itself of being permanently ahead, technically, of all regular positive displacement pumps. Functional principle means that there are many applications The functionality of this development, the gentle manner of its efficiency: It is precisely this that has convinced industrial users with all manner of products but a similar problem field: the food, drink, dairy and confectionery industries, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, bio-technical and chemical industries. Suction capacity: Vessels emptied considerably more quickly The MASO SINE PUMP can achieve suction pressures of up to 0.85 bar. This is made technically possible by the permanently opened suction chamber and the low level of slip between the displacement rotor, the pump stator and the control scraper. Even the most viscous products can be sucked in easily due to the suction chamber being continually opened. The (happy) conclusion of all this for industry is that the vessels can be emptied in a considerably shorter time as would be the case with comparable pumps. The economic advantages that this creates are obvious. Ever gentle with problem products For products containing a large proportion of large, solid pieces, for instance ready-cooked meals, and also for shear-sensitive dairy products, the gentle conveyance of the product is an absolute must. By way of its special construction, the MASO SINE PUMP has finally succeeded in guaranteeing To the limits of flow-capability: High viscosities The MASO SINE PUMP can pump products to the limits of their flow capabilities without forced additional conveyance. Products which do not flow independently under their own momentum are pushed by means of the feeding screw into the permanently opened suction chamber. Because of this ability, the MASO SINE PUMP has proved its suitability in a further big product area: Efficient conveyance is guaranteed even for viscous and highly viscous creams and pastes. Vibrations belong in the discotheque - but not in thick matter pump conveyance; Low-pulsation conveyance The conveyance principle of the MASO SINE PUMP is the only one of its kind. It is to this that we also owe the existence of low-pulsation pump conveyance. This leads to several benefits for both the conveyance and the production processes: a high degree of precision in the regulation of the flow volume a low level of movement in the pipes on the pressure side which means that there are no interfering vibrations a uniform supply of the filling machines with constant production levels Performance is convincing: Pumping rates of up to litres per hour

4 No waiting Just simple and quick maintenance Virtually all the wearing parts of the MASO SINE PUMP can be replaced in situ, without disassembling any of the pipes. Not only that, but the respective wearing parts are appreciably cheaper to replace than with comparable conventional displacement pumps. Components with a higher cost factor, such as the casing or the pump cover do not as a rule ever have to be replaced. The time-consuming fitting process once needed when replacing wearing parts is now a thing of the past. The spare parts which have to be kept in stock are reduced to a minimum. Guaranteed long-term utility: The ten year guarantee MASO can afford to provide a ten year guarantee on the main pumping components (casing, pump lid) - a clear indication of the stability of the components. Application-specific flexibility thanks to the hardware-software system. What is considered right and proper by one customer is not necessarily so for another. Through its special system of hardware and software products, MASO achieves a high level of flexibility - and at the same time an application-specific individuality and optimum functionality for the most varied of industrial demands. Depending on the application he requires, the customer is supplied with the pump which is the most economical for him. The product to be processed is the decisive factor: for this reason, MASO produces components such as the sealing system, the front bearing, the O rings, the stators and the scrapers from the respective materials which are the most appropriate to the product. So much for the Software. The casing and the pump cover - the Hardware do not require any application-specific adaptation. The pump casings of the SPS 1", SPS 2", SPS 3" and SPS 4" types are manufactured from V4 full-round material: a guarantee for the prevention of contraction or shrinkage cavities. But any other wishes can be fulfilled regarding the materials used in the pump casings - for example hastalloy or titanium. FACTS & FACTORS or NOTHING IS MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN SUCCESS MASO SINE PUMP reduces the lorry unloading time and increases the unloading capacity of fruit juice producer The quick and at the same time gentle unloading of orange juice concentrate has been and still is an important aspect for one of the leading German fruit juice producers. However, there has so far always been one serious problem in this respect; the eccentric screw pump being used required between 2 and 3 hours for 25 tonnes. To solve this time-consuming problem, a test was carried out using the MASO SINE PUMP SPS 4", which attains a maximum flow rate of l/h. After the first lorry had been emptied it was already clear: The MASO SINE PUMP SPS 4" succeeds in emptying the lorry in only 60 minutes. The result gave the producers good reason to be pleased: By considerably reducing the emptying time, it was now possible to empty one to two lorries more per day - a result which has a corresponding effect on the whole process.

Typical examples are ready meals, soups, sauces, frozen food, delicatessen salads, sausage mass. The main function of the MASO SINE PUMP in this field is the supply of filling machines with a variety of products. Don t be thirsty... Whether it is orange juice concentrate at a temperature of up to -8 C or thin fruit juices which have to be pumped, there is no problem either way. More than just milk... In the chemicals industry too - for instance in the case of shear-sensitive suspensions, spinning solutions, rinsing and cleaning agents.

6 INGENIOUSLY SIMPLE- SIMPLY INGENIOUS The principle of functionality Everything which is really good and functional consists of only a few components...the MASO SINE PUMP too (see cross-section) The sine-wave form of the rotor means that in each revolution a chamber is created - four times for each pass of the stator space - through which the flow product is pushed or displaced. The control scraper prevents an unwanted pressure balance from the pressure to the suction side. At the same time, the control scraper performs the important function of the forced lubrication of the pump bearing by the product; when the pump is cleaned, this means that the bearing also undergoes intense rinsing. MASO SINE PUMP: Instead of gyroscopes, planets, pistons, etc. the CNC ground special steel disc, with two sine wavelike curves. A moveable scraper and fixed stator work together: A gentle, low-pulsation pumping of flow-capable materials. Even with a counter-pressure of 10 bars (water pumping) there is hardly any movement in the manometer. Inserted or Fixed stators from different materials, e.g. polyamide or Peek plastic or V 4 A steel, depending on the material to be pumped. 7 VARIATIONS - OPTIONS - PROBLEM SOLUTIONS Individual seal variations: The know how which MASO possesses as a constructor and manufacturer of displacement pumps already comprises several decades. Our customers profit from this especially when they are interested in application-specific variants - such as for instance the seal which is ideally suited for any particular application. Threefold radial rotary shaft seal: Cheap alternative for applications with low pressures. The rotary shaft seals run on a separate seal sleeve: no running in of the drive shaft. Floating ring seals, single or double: The MASO range contains the floating ring seals of all the major manufacturers. Changing seals is no problem: Generally all seal systems can be replaced subsequently with no problem Heating or Cooling: Various products, for instance in the sweets and confectionery industry require heating or cooling. MASO offers pump case heating as an option: safe and uncomplicated to connect to any hot water supply. Application-specific drive: Depending on the application, with either fixed or variable rotational speed, taking into account individual requirements. Ground plate variations Console with coupling protection made of square special-steel pipes or bent and welded V 2 A special steel. Both variants can be supplied with dome feet which can be adjusted for height, or as a travelling version. Individual solutions are also possible. Shaft rings plus additional rinsing: For the high demands placed on hygiene standards Covering hood for extreme wet conditions: Additional protection of the drive motor by means of a stable covering hood. Generous ventilation holes guarantee the cooling of the drive system.
