Planting arm knob bracket (4 th from LHS) broken due to strucking with 9.76 the washer present in the nursery mat and replaced with new one. 2. The silencer was broken from the body and the same was repaired during engine test 3. The silencer mounting flange of exhaust manifold was broken during 53.1 engine test and got repair. 4. The fuel injection pump was calibrated and fuel injector was replaced 53.1 with new one 5. The engine side silencer mounting flange was cracked and intake manifold stud came out 6. Engine cylinder head was changed with new one The exhaust manifold mounting flange was broken from its aluminum head casting, hence cylinder head assembly (Part No. 170F-03101); blower top plate (Part No. 170F-02401) and Connecting rod bearing (Part No. 170F-04013) were replaced with new one. 8. The existing silencer (Mass 1.5 kg) was replaced with new silencer (mass 1.0 kg) to reduce the weight. 9. The belt mounting flange for coupling the engine with dynamometer and engine mounting base plate was broken from its one of the holes during engine performance test SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS, COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS 10.1 Engine Performance Test: - Engine performance test was not conducted due to engine crankcase mounting plate broken. It can not be welded and engine can not be fitted for alignment on test bed Field Test: - The transplanter was operated in varying field conditions for a total period of 50.5 hours for transplanting ADT-43 variety of paddy seedlings. The results are summarized as under: - The average forward speed of operation was observed as 1.86 to 2.14 kmph & 1.61 kmph in The average area covered was recorded as to ha/h & ha/h in The average depth of transplanting was recorded as 5 to 6 cm & 6 cm in Planting-II & Planting-I position respectively.

4 12 The spacing between rows was recorded as 29 to 30 cm & 30 cm in Planting-II & Planting-I position respectively. The av. number of plants per hill was recorded as 7 to 8 & 7 in Planting-II & Planting-I position respectively. The average spacing between hills was recorded as 14 to 15 cm & 12 cm in The average total number of hills in 5 m row length was recorded as 30 to 36 & 40 in Planting-II & Planting-I position respectively The average number of hills per sq. m. was recorded as 31 to 32 & 40 in Planting- II & Planting-I position respectively. The average percentage of missed hills was recorded as 1.03 to % & 2.50 % in The average percentage of floating seedlings was recorded as Nil to 1.08 % & 4.18 % in The average buried seedlings were recorded as Nil to 7.28 % & Nil in Planting-II & Planting-I position respectively. The total percentage of transplanting faults was recorded as 3.26 to % & 6.68 % in Planting-II & Planting-I position respectively The hourly fuel consumption was recorded as 0.61 to 0.80 l/h & 0.75 l/h and fuel required for planting of one hectare area was recorded as 1.44 to 2.36 l & 2.75 l in 10.3 During the field operation, no momentary overloading of the engine was noticed throughout the test The quality of puddling, uniformity in leveling of the field, standing water over puddle, uniformity of the nursery mats and presence of weeds, remains in the puddle soil affect the performance of the planter to a great extent. Therefore, to obtain the best results from the machine, it is necessary to have the well-puddled and settled field with 2 4 cm standing water The number of missing hills per square meter area is attributed mainly to the non-uniform germination of the seedlings The overall performance of the machine was found satisfactory Ease of operation and adjustments: - There was no difficulty observed during test in steering the machine. However operator feels fatigue after two hours of continuous operation. The machine is stable in the field as well as on the road transport. As the pneumatic wheel is provided, it was found safe and easier to transport the machine on road. The quantity of seedlings can be adjusted through the knobs provided for it. Plant population can be changed by changing the hill-to-hill spacing in two stages i. e. 12 cm & 14 cm through the gear lever.
