9 STANDARD MV & HV RANGE GENERAL DATA MOUNTINGS Our motors are available in design versions IM B3, IM B35, IM V1 and derived versions in accordance with standard IEC 634-7, as outlined in the table below. Motors manufactured to IP 56 (totally enclosed motors, upon request) are protected against dust penetration and against powerful water jets. Normally IP 56 motors are supplied with external fan (IC 411, IC 416 or IC 418). The external fan is covered by a fan cover with IP 2 protection degree, in line with safety standards. Motors for vertical mounting V1 are supplied with a rain cowl. The terminal box is built in IP55 or IP56 protection degree. Excepted from the description above are our IP23 open drip proof motors. The motor frames are cast (rib cooled motors) or steel welded (box design). The motors of PARSONS PEEBLES are available in IP 55 IC 411 as a rib cooled TEFC motor, IP 54 IC 611 with an air-air heat exchanger, IP 23 IC1, and water cooled IC81W with an air-water heat exchanger. All types are also available with forced ventilation for VFD application. 11 STANDARD MV & HV RANGE GENERAL DATA COOLING The designation of cooling method is given by the IC code (International Cooling), according to IEC Motors in standard execution are supplied with IC 411 cooling systems, incorporating a bi-directional fan. All frame sizes can be supplied with cooling system IC 416 on request. In this case a proper fan is fitted inside the fan cover, suitably reinforced, in order to make ventilation independent of rotation speed. Other cooling systems as stated in the table below are available on request. The motors are as standard equipped with ball bearings with C3-tolerance. Roller bearings or sleeve bearings are available on request. On request, sleeve bearings are available from RENK/Germany (increased delivery time). As standard we recommend high grade lithium based grease, e.g. CALTEX II-R. For special applications with temperatures under -4 C ambient temperature or high temperatures we recommend special greases, e.g. from KLÜBER/Germany. The standard life time of the motors at direct coupling is about 1, hours of operation. Motors in belt-drive-applications generally have life-time over 4, hours for motors with 4, 6, 8 or a higher number of poles (= nominal speed lower than 1,8rpm) and over 2, hours for motors with 2 poles (= 1,8rpm and higher). For further details please refer to the bearing manufacturer s life-time tables and maintenance instructions. During the first 2 hours of operation (run-in time) the grease will be evenly dispersed over the raceway and ball surfaces. So eventually a slightly higher sound level can be heard. Both under and over-greasing can cause damage to the bearings. In practice, over-greasing occurs more frequently. Page 12 Parsons Peebles Group 217

15 STANDARD MV & HV RANGE GENERAL DATA TERMINAL BOX AND CONNECTION The terminal board is as standard equipped with 3 terminals and is made with non-hygroscopic and mildew resistant material. Terminal boxes for PPD, PPT and PPC series are made of welded steel. The protection degree is IP 66. The terminal boxes are fitted with a cable gland G4 which meets protection degree IP68. Care should be taken that the mains cable diameters match the inner diameter of the cable glands and that the cables are well connected to the 3 cable studs. The dimensions of the terminal boxes for IC411, IC611 and IC1 are as follows: Medium voltage: 635 x 42 x 342 mm High voltage: 77 x 535 x 414 mm INSULATION & WINDING All motors are fitted with F insulation class with B rise. The soft copper electrolytic wire is insulated using a special enamel (double enamel). This is classified as H insulation class. All insulating materials used to produce the motors are F or H insulation class. After the winding has been filled, interconnected and fixed in the stator, it is impregnated by soaking it in oven-curing F-class resins. For special applications, the relevant motor gets tropicalized. Therefore an enamel is used, that fits the following characteristics: heatproof, humidity proof, chemical proof. Moreover, the motor also can be fitted to be used in maritime environments suitable for sea-water exposure. The impregnation cycle is carried out under vacuum (VPI). In such conditions, the temperature reached by the motors is lower than the one provided by insulation class B, the operating characteristics are guaranteed with the tolerances defined by IEC standards and recommendations. The values are shown in the following table. When the motors are connected to voltages between 95% and 15% of the design voltage range - this corresponds to the mains voltage value according to DIN EN 638 with ±1% - maximum permissible temperature rise of the stator winding maybe approx. 1 K according to EN Page 16 Parsons Peebles Group 217

17 STANDARD MV & HV RANGE GENERAL DATA The power rating (design rating) applies for continuous operation as specified in EN at a coolant temperature of 4 C and an altitude of <1,m above mean sea level, at nominal frequency of 5 Hz and design voltage. The motors have thermal reserves which permit the following overloads in continuous operation: 1% above the rated power output at 4 C coolant temperature or rated power output at 5 C coolant temperature at an installation altitude of 2,5m above sea level These conditions apply only alternatively; when both apply, the power must be reduced. OVERLOAD CAPACITIES In compliance with EN 634-1, all motors can be exposed to the following overload conditions: 1.5 times the rated current for 2 min 1.6 times the rated torque for 15 sec Both conditions apply to the rated voltage and rated frequency. AMBIENT TEMPERATURES & DE-RATINGS The tables of technical data are referred to an ambient temperature of 5 C at sea level or an ambient temperature of 4 C at an altitude of 1,m above sea level. In different environmental conditions output ratings vary and are obtainable by applying the factors as mentioned in COOLING considering the maximum temperature protection provided by insulation class B. The motors are designed to be operated at an ambient temperature of -4 C to 47 C. For regions with high or low ambient temperatures out with this range then we can supply a motor from our engineered range. Upon request, motors for limited duty (S2, S6) can be supplied. STARTING Our motors are suitable for the following types of starting: direct by auto-transformer soft-start: when the starting is finished soft-start should be by-passed. Use precaution when motor is powered with inverter by inverter: see as recommended in the paragraph Inverter Supply THERMAL PROTECTION All our motors have inbuilt positive temperature co-efficient thermistors (PTCs). These thermistors quickly change their standard resistance value at their active temperature. < 25Ω from temperature from TK -2 C to +2 C < 55Ω at a temperature of TK -5 C > 1,33Ω at a temperature of TK +5 C > 4,Ω at a temperature of TK +15 C The PTCs are directly installed in the head of the coils so that every change of temperature is measured. The characteristic of the curve (shown below) demonstrates that the increase of the PTCs in the resistance from the switching point onwards is exponential. The behavior of the PTCs in the relevant range of temperature from TK = 6 C to 18 C is in accordance to IEC Upon request, as thermal protection, platinum resistance thermometers PT1 can be installed in the motors. The resistance of a PT1 has a variable resistance that changes linearly with the winding temperature. These are particularly suitable for continuous winding temperature monitoring. The protection is normally made by 3 sensitive elements, one for every phase, series connected and with two terminals in a specially provided terminal board located in the main terminal box or in a specially provided auxiliary terminal box. 19 STANDARD MV & HV RANGE GENERAL DATA Temperature curve of a PTC Temperature curve of a PT1 ANTI-CONDENSATION HEATERS Motors subject to atmospheric condensation, either through standing idle in damp environments or because of wide ambient temperature variations, may be fitted with anti-condensation heaters. They are of tape form and are normally mounted on the stator winding head. Anti-condensation heaters are normally switched on automatically, mostly when the motor is in standstill. When the supply to the motor is interrupted, heating the motor is used to avoid water condensation. Normal supply voltage is 115 V or 22/24 V. Anti-condensation heater terminals are led to a specially provided terminal board located in the main terminal box. Upon request they can be led to a terminal board located in an auxiliary terminal box. These motors can be driven up to the rated frequency (5 Hz) with supply voltage proportional to the frequency (see diagr. 1), at higher frequencies they can be supplied at constant voltage up to 87Hz (see diagr. 2). By the type of supply shown in diagr. 3, the flux created by the stator windings will be constant from frequency to 5 Hz frequency, at frequencies higher than 5 Hz, the flux will be lower than the maximum value. NOTE: At low frequencies ( approx. 1 Hz), due to the voltage drop, the supply voltage should be slightly increased in order to keep the flux constant. This voltage increase depends both on the motor type and on the inverter type. Consequently the motors in standard execution (self ventilating code IC411) are able to run at constant torque between 25 and 5 Hz and at constant power in the section included between 5 and 87 Hz (see diagrams 2 and 3). 20 PARSONS PEEBLES ELECTRIC MACHINES CATALOGUE STANDARD MV & HV RANGE GENERAL DATA Upon request, motors can be equipped with an auxiliary fan (code IC 416), in this case they can supply a constant torque between and 5 Hz and a constant power in the section included between 5 and 87 Hz. It has to be considered that generally the inverter supplying the asynchronous motor with a non- sinusoidal current has some negative impact. This is due in particular to the type of inverter, to the value of the switch frequency and to the length of the supply cables. Moreover, steep voltage fronts to the motor terminals (du/dt) originated by the short commutation times of the IGBT, generate considerable stresses on the insulating materials. 72 PARSONS PEEBLES ELECTRIC MACHINES CATALOGUE ENGINEERED TO ORDER HIGH VOLTAGE RANGE KEYED BAR ROTOR CONSTRUCTION The Parsons Peebles system of rotor cage construction eliminates the risks of bar fractures typically associated with ageing machines, frequent starting and high inertia loads. Since the concept was introduced in 1946 the system has been used as a standard feature in motors for the most arduous and demanding applications in the world. We are not aware of a single rotor bar that has failed using this system. Proven security of the rotor cage system in the most demanding of applications During the starting procedure of a cage induction machine, most of the current flows down the outside of the bar, creating a considerable temperature differential across the cross-section of the bar. This differential, along with the clearance between the rotor bar and the lamination causes the rotor bar to bend, then return once the temperature differential has equalised across the bar. It is this repeated bending of the bar back and forth which eventually causes rotor bar fractures and eventual motor failure as a result. Improved rotor cage reliability reduces service cost and downtime Suitable for very high starting frequency and high inertia loads New keyed-bar rotors can be supplied for existing motors, even non-parsons Peebles machines The Parsons Peebles keyed rotor bar system allows for a sub-slot in the lamination into which individually matched ground steel keys are driven. 74 PARSONS PEEBLES ELECTRIC MACHINES CATALOGUE ENGINEERED TO ORDER HIGH VOLTAGE RANGE CASE STUDY ADVANCED DUAL USE UPGRADE SOLUTION Industry Customer/Location Offshore Oil & Gas Conoco / North Sea, UK Machine Type Dual crude oil export pump and compressor motor SITUATION Parsons Peebles were requested to evaluate the potential to obtain increased output power from an existing pump drive motor. Thereafter Parsons Peebles were requested to evaluate the feasibility of supplying a new-build strategic spare which could be used at two different locations on the same installation. While the units are similar they were for completely different applications, one a pump drive the other a compressor drive with other discrete differences in the configuration of the machines. CHALLENGE While the units are similar they were for completely different applications, one a pump drive the other a compressor drive with other discrete differences in the configuration of the machines The new machine to be utilised as a spare for the existing machines to permit removal of the existing machines for maintenance overhaul at a shore based workshop whilst maintaining pumping and compression capability for production To evaluate the existing Crude Oil Export Pump Motor design for a higher output power in the existing machine or a revised design in the same footprint SOLUTION & OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS Design evaluation shows the requested higher power can be accommodated. While the two existing machines have differently configured shaft extensions one tapered with oil pressure assembly and one parallel the solution will be to provide one parallel extension with new couplings for each application required. The main supply cabling is on the same side of the two machines but at different entry angles differing by 9 degrees to be accommodated by common neck and 9 degrees change facility. The main bearings on the two machines are the same diameter but differently cooled one with circulating oil the other with a water cooling arrangement a hybrid bearing will resolve. Both machines are water cooled but have their supply and return headers on opposite sides of the machine pipework management to resolve (example below). Starting currents less than 3 times full-load are achievable as our table of recent installations demonstrates below.
