Replace defective batteries if they do not measure substantially close to 6 volts when the bell or other sounding device is operating. Disconnected, broken, or shorted wires Check wiring and repair or replace between relay panel and bell. Check as needed (see Part I. Section G). wiring between terminals I and 2 on control panel to the bell. Dirty contacts on protective circuit (sensitive)reiay (located above terminals 5 and 6 on control panel). Dirty or corroded key switch contacts. Clean relay contacts with burnishing tool and/or spray (see catalog Nos. 316 and 317). Replace keyswitch with proper type (see catalog). 112

3 a Bound bell clapper. Free or adjust bell clapper, If necessary, replace bell. TROUBLE : 5. BELL CIRCUIT DOES NOT LATCH ON ALARM. WHEN THE CONDITION CAUSING ALARM IS CORGECTED, THE BELL STOPS EVEN THOUGH THE KEYSWITCH REMAINS IN THE ON (OR NIGHT) POSITION. Dirty contacts on latching (drop) relay (located above terminals I and 2 on relay panel). Clean relay contacts with burnishing tool and/or spray (see catalog Nos. 316 and 317). Open circuit in coil of latching (drop) relay (located above terminals I and 2 on relay panel. Look for approximately 56 ohms with an ohmmeter placed across coil winding). Replace latching relay if ohmmeter check on coil reveals an open circuit. TROUBLE : 6. FALSE ALARMS OCCUR DUR TO SWINGERS IN PROTECTIVE CIRCUIT (see Also Part I, Section HI. Swinqer or intermittent break in protective circuit loop. Use No. I2 tester or equivalent to locate faults. (See Part I, Section H for instructions). Weak batteries or insufficiently charged power source supplying protective circuit (check panel ammeter for 3 to 4 ma. current draw during circuit test; 6 ma. in the case of rechargeable power sources supplying 6 volts). Replace batteries if defective. Be sure that any rechargeable batteries in Recharge-A-Packs are fully charged (charge batteries for 24 hours without a load). Dirty or corroded key switch cpntacts. Replace key switch with proper type (see catalog). TROUBLE: 7. AMMETER READING ON CONTROL PANEL IS ZERO OR LESS THAN 3 MILLIAMPS WHEN KEY SWITCH IS IN CIRCUIT TEST POSITION (Does not apply to Nos. 100 and and II0 Controls). A protected point of entry is open. Check all windows and doors.close any opened door and windows in protective circuit. 113

4 Dead battery in protective circuit. Replace battery. Be sure there is no shorted wiring causing shortened battery life. /. (:.. //+, Defective Recharge-A-Pack powering protective circuit. All discharged batteries of this type should be charged for 24 hours without a load. Be sure Recharae-A-Packs are fullv charged and operating within their maximum output capacity. After charging sufficiently, use a voltmeter to measure battery output under operating conditions. A break or short exists in protective circuit wiring. Repair or replace defective wiring. Check wiring at relay panel for shorts at screw terminals 5 and 6 (use Part I, Section H to help find trouble). Open circuit in the sensitive relav coi I. Replace sensitive relay if ohmmeter check reveals an open circuit. Defective panel ammeter. If alarm system works normally but ammeter reads zero when key is in CIRCUIT TEST position, (with all points of entry closed), a defective ammeter is indicated. Replace ammeter with proper type (see catalog for details). TROUBLE: 8. BELL OR OTHER SOUNDING DEVICE DOES NOT OPERATE DURING BELL TEST POSITION OF KEY SW ITCH. Problems may exist in the power supply, bell, bell wiring, relay contacts, or terminal connections. See TROUBLE 4, Sections B, C, D, E, and 8. Problems exist with particular sounding device and/or module supplying signal. Wirinq breaks and/or short circljits do not permit device(s) to oderate. Polarity to driver module is reversed at relay panel. Disconnected or discharged bell battery or power supply (be sure any rechargeab I e batter i es in Recharge-AIPacks are f u I ly charged; charge batteries for 24 hours wtihout a load. Wires leading from control panel to sounding devices do not conform to specified procedures. After first making the checks outlined below, see the Troubleshooting Section for the particular sounding devices and modules being used_. Check all wiring to s,ounding de- Repair vices. quired.
