1 GENUINE STRUT TOWER BAR INSTALLATION AND USER S INSTRUCTIONS Please check for compliance with local law prior to purchase and installation of this device. Thank you for purchasing a genuine Mazda accessory. Before removal and installation, be sure to thoroughly read these instructions. Please read the contents of this booklet in order to properly install and use the strut tower bar. Your safety depends on it. Keep these instructions with your vehicle records for future reference. WARNING There are several WARNING and sections in this booklet concerning safety when installing or removing the strut tower bar. Always read and follow them in order to prevent injuries, accidents, and possible damage to the vehicle. WARNING: Indicates a situation in which serious injury or death could result if the warning is ignored. : Indicates a situation in which bodily injury or damage to the vehicle could result if the caution is ignored. For areas indicating the tightening torque in this instruction manual, tighten to the specified torque using a torque wrench. For areas in which the tightening torque is indicated inside parentheses ( ), the tightening torque is indicated as a reference value, however tightening using a torque wrench is not necessary. Do not modify the strut tower bar. Do not install the strut tower bar in any way other than described in the following instructions. If in any doubt, please ask your Mazda dealer to install the accessory in order to prevent errors in installation. If you have any questions about the use of the accessory, ask your Mazda dealer for proper advice before using it. Mazda and its suppliers are not responsible for injuries, accidents, and damage to persons and property that arise from the failure of the dealer or installer to follow these instructions. To ensure safety and reliability of the work, installation, removal and disposal work must be carried out by an Authorized Mazda Dealership. Be careful not to lose removed parts, and be sure that they are kept free from scratches, grease or other dirt. 2 1. INSTALLATION VIEW Strut tower bar Vehicle front Verify that the accessory doer not contact parts in the engine compartment. Differences among vehicle models or accessories installed by the customer after purchase (except Mazda genuine accessories and MAZDASPEED accessories) could result in contact with other parts. If there is the possibility of parts contacting the accessory, appropriate measures should be taken such as affixing protective padding. Otherwise abnormal noise or trouble could result. This accessory must be tightened securely to parts essential to the vehicle drive such as the suspension mount. Verify that the specified nuts are used and that they are tightened to the specified torque. If incorrect nuts are used or the nuts are not tightened to the specification, the accessory could be damaged or fall off. 2. PARTS Before installation, verify that the kit includes all the following parts and that they are free of dirt, scratches, or damage. 3 3.BEFORE INSTALLATION REQUIRED TOOLS Socket wrench Hexagonal wrench Spanner Torque wrench WARNING Before performing any work, park the vehicle on level ground, apply the parking brake securely, and then block the wheels. If the vehicle moves while performing work, it could cause a serious accident. Be sure to cover the vehicle body with protectors or mats to prevent stains, scratches and damage when removing/installing the vehicle parts Using improper tools may cause damage and or broken parts. Use the correct tool for the job. Put the removed parts and the parts in the kit on the protective sheet to prevent scratches. Note Refer to the Workshop Manual for removal and installation of vehicle parts. Not following the procedures for removal/installation in the Workshop Manual could result in an accident or vehicle malfunction. 3

4 4. VEHICLE PART REMOVAL Remove vehicle parts in the following order. Perform the work after the engine compartment has completely cooled. If the work is performed while the engine compartment is hot, such as immediately after the vehicle has been driven, serious injuries such as burns could occur. Always wear protective gear while performing the work. Do not perform the installation with the vehicle lifted or jacked up. If the work is performed while the vehicle is lifted, the upper mounts could fall off, or damage to the vehicle could occur. Be careful not to damage or lose any parts removed from the vehicle since they will be reused. Note Refer to the Workshop Manual for removal and installation of applicable vehicle parts. Not following the procedures for removal/installation in the Workshop Manual could result in an accident and a vehicle malfunction If the vehicle is not equipped with the strut tower bar, remove the following parts. 1 Wiper arm 2 Cowl grille 3 Air box complete 4

Tower bar plate removal (only vehicles without strut tower bar and i-eloop) 1. Remove the PCM connectors. Vehicle front PCM connector PCM component Clip Nut 2.

5 Tower bar plate removal (only vehicles without strut tower bar and i-eloop) 1. Remove the PCM connectors. Vehicle front PCM connector PCM component Clip Nut 2. Disengage the clips and remove the emission wiring harness protector. 3. Remove the nuts and bolt. Bolt tightening torque:8-10 N m Nut tightening torque:8-10 N m 4. Remove the PCM component. Tower bar plate Vehicle front Induction enhancer Vehicle front Induction enhancer removal (if installed) 1.Remove the bolts (2 locations) and rubber mount so that the induction enhancer can be set aside. 6 5. STRUT TOWER BAR INSTALLATION 1. Separately sold Install the air box complete in the reverse order of removal. (Only vehicles without strut tower bar) 2. Separately sold Install the tower bar plate in the reverse order of removal. (Only vehicles without strut tower bar and i-eloop) 3. Install the strut tower bar. Sold separately Nut Vehicle front Securely tighten the nuts last due to their temporary assembly. Nut tightening torque : N m If the induction sound enhancer is installed simultaneously, apply protective tape (kit accessory) to the area with narrow clearance. Nut tightening torque : N m 6

7 6. OPERATION CHECK 1. Refer to Required servicing after disconnecting/connecting negative battery cable in the vehicle workshop manual or the owner s manual to restore the vehicle functions. 2. Perform reinstallation and inspection of the vehicle parts. After installation, verify that parts in the engine compartment do not contact each other. If there is the possibility of parts contacting each other, always take safety measures such as affixing protective padding. If the front strut tower bar contacts other parts, recheck the method of installation. Depending on differences in individual vehicle models and components, there could be a difference in the clearance between vehicle parts. Always check each vehicle. 7
