4 About this manual 1. About this manual 1.1 Warning symbols and markings used in this manual Danger! Failure to observe this warning poses the risk of personal injury or death. Danger of electrical shock! Failure to observe this warning poses the risk of personal injury or death from electrocution. Attention! Failure to observe this precaution poses risk of damage to environment and the product. Operating instruction which are to be followed in a certain order are numbered. Listing items are preceded by a dash. 1.2 Who should read this instructions These operating instructions are intended for all personal assigned to install maintain and operate the pan and tilt gear. Danger of electrical shock! All electrical work related to installing and repairing the searchlight should only be carried out by qualified electricians. 2. Safety 2.1 General information Be sure to observe the following safety instructions. Failure to do so will pose danger to yourself and others. Intended use The pan and tilt gear FL51 is intended to direct a payload as e.g. a WISKA Searchlight or cameras, antennas etc horizontally and vertically. The pan and tilt gear FL51 is designed to be used under rough operating conditions as for instance on ships on voyages through icy waters or on off-shore platforms. 4

5 Safety 2.2 Protective measures Danger! The pan and tilt gear should not be altered or modified in any way due to the danger this poses to persons and damage which may occur to the unit itself. Failure to observe this will void the approval certificate. Only original spare parts may be used. Use of unauthorized spare parts will void any warranty. Danger of crushing! Danger of cutting! Be sure that there are no persons directly next to the pan and tilt gear before set in motion. Persons standing near the searchlight may get limbs caught between the payload and the leverage and serious injuries may result. Danger from payload! In case the mounted payload could cause any danger, make sure to observe all safety measures during installation and operation. Danger which could occur are for instance: blinding from searchlights or radiation from large transmitting antennas. Temperature In order to protect the pan and tilt gear from freezing the unit has an integrated thermostat controlled heater, which allows for an operating temperature range of 40 C to +70 C. Attention! To ensure that the minimum temperature is maintained during cold weather conditions: Leave the external supply to the RCU/ FL51 always turned on, to supply continues power to the heater. (The RCU switch S2 does not control the heater.) In case the external supply was turned off under temperature conditions lower then 6 C for an extended amount of time let the gear warm up before use. 2.3 Operating requirements Protection class The pan and tilt gear has an IP 56 protection class rating (dust-protected, heavy seas and powerful water jets). To maintain this protection class, all electrical cables may only be led in through appropriate screw- connected cable fittings. Requirement for placement There are no special location requirements for the pan and tilt gear. However, when installing the gear you need to make sure, that the shaft and levers can move freely in its complete range and are not blocked by any objects, the payload can move freely in its complete range and is not blocked by any obstacles. Keep in mind, that the 5

6 Safety sphere of activity of the payload has a different range depending on the tilt and pan position, the tilt or pan position of the payload will not block other eventually also moving objects from travel, the properties of the payload and its travel will not endanger anybody. 2.4 Maintenance / cleaning Before carrying out maintenance or cleaning work: Turn off the main switch. Make sure the payload has also been disconnected from its supply and no danger can result from it. 6

Do not install the unit if there has been damage during transportation or parts are missing. Please contact your WISKA agent or our distribution partner in your country. Installing the FL51 pan and tilt gear Two persons are required for installation due to the weight of the FL51 pan and tilt gear. 1. Drill four holes along a ø 330 mm circle in diameter. For more information see chapter 3.4 Dimensions. 2. Place gear at desired location and tighten screws. 3. Connect earth cable. Installing the remote control unit RCU To operate the pan and tilt gear normally a RCU remote control unit is supplied. The remote control unit is available as panel mount unit RCU-E and as wall mount unit RCU-A. Electrically and functionally both units are identical. To install the units drill the required holes and make opening if required, as shown in chapter 3.4 Dimensions. Be sure to provide wire of sufficient size (cross-section) for the cable length. Installing the junction box If you intend to use a junction in your configuration install it as needed. Danger of electrical shock! Electrical connections may only be completed by qualified personal. Be sure the power cord is dead and nobody can accidental resume the power supply during installation! The circuit diagram is enclosed separately or you find it in chapter 3.5 Diagram. 12

13 Installation Connected load values Supply voltage: 230 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Power consumption: 280W. Attention! To ensure IP56 protection class: 1. Pull all cables through appropriate fittings. 2. Make sure, that all cable fittings are firmly tightened and provide for a waterproof seal. 3. Also, close all covers with its appropriate seal to ensure the protection class of the unit. 4. Be careful to select the appropriate cable for the environment to avoid early aging and material fatigue. Note: The cable from the FL51 pan and tilt gear, the remote control unit RCU and eventually the payload, e.g. a WISKA Searchlight, can be connected directly or via an optional junction box. Power supply Be sure to observe all applicable international or local country regulations! Check to be sure that grounding and zero current works properly! Reinsert fuses. 13

When turning on the unit, pay attention that nobody will be harmed by the motion of the payload or the mechanics of the pan and tilt gear. Danger from characteristics of the payload! Pay attention that nobody will be harmed from the characteristics of the payload or its motion. Attention! If the ambient temperatures are below 6 C wait until its internal heating element has warmed up the pan and tilt gear to at least 6 C. In case the payload also includes temperature dependent components, wait until this also has been warmed up. Follow the manufactures instructions of the payload. 1. Turn on the pan and tilt gear with switch S2 on the RCU Remote control unit. It is now ready for operation and can be controlled by the position control switch S5 (joystick). 2. The switch S1 of the control unit is dedicated to turn on the payload. When you turn on the payload follow the manufacturers instructions. 14

15 Maintenance 5.3 Turning off the pan and tilt gear 6. Maintenance Attention! To ensure operation readiness, the optional thermostat controlled heater works independently from the RCU switches S2 or S1, if connected as shown in the circuit diagram. 1. Turn off the gear with S2 on the RCU. 2. Turn off the payload with S1 on the RCU. To maintain the standby function do not turn off the external electrical supply. 6.1 Cleaning If required clean the pan and tilt gear from outside. Check that the mechanics can travel freely in its complete range. Check for rust and corrosion. 15

16 Replacing defective parts 7. Replacing defective parts 7.1 Before you begin 1. Turn off the main switch of the system and remove the fuses. 2. Make sure the entire electrical system is dead and it can not be turned on accidentally. 3. Disconnect the payload system from supply and make sure that no danger can occur from it while working on the gear. 7.2 Replacing parts of the pan and tilt gear Danger of electrical shock! Electrical connections may only be completed by qualified personal. Be sure the power cord is dead and nobody can accidentally resume the power supply. The circuit diagram is enclosed separately or you find it in chapter 3.5 Circuit Diagram. 1. In order to change defective parts on the gear uninstall the payload as required and suggested by its manufacturer. 2. Make sure that the payload will not be damaged while working on the gear. 3. Use original spare parts only (see chapter 9. Spare parts). 4. While doing the repair work follow the acknowledged rules of technology. 5. Dispose the defective parts in an appropriate way. 7.3 Replacing parts of the RCU 1. To replace components of the RCU remote control unit only use original spare parts from WISKA! 2. Replace defective parts following the acknowledged rules of technology. 3. Reconnect replaced parts in accordance with the circuit diagram. 4. Dispose the defective parts in an appropriate way. 16

17 Disposal 8. Disposal Electrical parts contain toxic substances. Be sure to dispose these components properly or send them back to WISKA.
