Remove the drain plug from the axle case and drain the oil (approximately 6 Iiters/13 pints). 2. Wheel and tire. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES (SEC. 3E) in this manual. 3. Axle shaft (3). Refer to "Axle Shaft Replacement" earlier in this section. 4. Outer oil seal (4). Use screwdriver (figure 3). 5. Lock washer (5). Figure 3. Removing Outer Oil Seal 4. Install or Connect (Figures 1, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9) Tools Required: 292 mm differential: J Rear Hub Oil Seal Installer J Inner Bearing Installer J Hub Outer Bearing Race Installer 320 mm differential: J Rear Hub Oil Seal Installer J Inner Bearing Installer J Hub Outer Bearing Race Installer 1. Wheel pin to drum. Tighten (NPR) Nuts to 392 N m (289 Ib ft). Stake nuts to prevent them from loosening. 2 Hub to drum. Tighten Bolts to 13 N m (113 lb in) 3. Inner bearing (10) with inner bearing outer race installer (17) and grip (18) (figure 6). 4. Inner oil seal (9) with oil seal installer (13) and grip (18) (figure 7). 5. Oil catcher (12). 6. Outer bearing outer race with outer bearing outer race installer and grip (figure 8). 7. Outer bearing inner race (8). 8. Hub and drum assembly (7).

4 18. Grip 19. Outer Bearing Installer 4 of 8 11/25/2016 2:47 PM Adjustment of hub bearing preload via wheel bolt tangential preload (Bearing Preload Adjustment Method1) 1. Install the bearing lock nut. Install the bearing lock nut and temporarily tighten firmly. CAUTION: Install the bearing lock nut with the slitted surface facing outward. 2. Adjust the preload of the hub bearing. a. While rotating the hub left and right several times, work the bearing into place. b. Using the J 35012, tighten the bearing lock nut until the hub no longer rotates. Next, loosen the hub once until it rotates slightly. c. Put a string around the wheel bolts, hang a spring balancer on the string end, and gently pull it in the tangent direction. Then tighten the bearing lock nut until the reading taken on the spring balancer when the hub begins to rotate reaches the specified value. CAUTION: Verify that the brakes do not drag. Check the hub for looseness, resistance, or abnormal heaviness. If the preload is unstable, rotate the hub several times, stop the rotation completely and carry out the measurement again. If it still does not become stable, re-perform the procedure from procedure a. Preload = 18-27N ( lb)

CAUTION: If the slit does not align, turn the bearing lock nut in the tightening direction to align it. f. Attach the lock washer.

5 5 of 8 11/25/2016 2:47 PM d. After adjusting the preload, turn the hub to the left and right several times to recheck the preload. e. With the preload adjusted, align the closest slit of the bearing lock nut to the center of the lock groove in the axle case threaded portion. CAUTION: If the slit does not align, turn the bearing lock nut in the tightening direction to align it. f. Attach the lock washer. Securely install the lock washer claw in the lock groove of the axle case threaded portion, and use the lock bolt to tighten and fasten the bearing nut and lock washer. Tightening torque = 10 N m (87 lb in) There are 48 equally distanced slits on the bearing nut make the lock positioning easier and secure. By Aligning the marking lines on the bearing nut to the center of the axle case threaded portion grooves, the bearing nut lock bolt installation screw holes and either of the bolt holes of the lock washers match (symmetrically in 2 positions) Therefore, use the bolt to tighten the positions to securely lock the bearing nut.

Adjustment of hub bearing preload via hub nut tightening torque (Alternative Bearing Preload Adjustment Method 2) 1. After assembling the rear hub and outer bearing, assemble the bearing lock nut and turn the hub to the left and right several times to stabilize the bearing. 2. Install the bearing lock nut. CAUTION: Install the bearing lock nut with the slitted surface facing outward. 3. Adjust the preload of the hub bearing. a. Using the J 35012, tighten the bearing lock nut to the specified tightening torque. Tightening torque: 110 N m (81 lb ft)

7 NOTE: The tightening torque for both new bearings and reused bearings is the same. 7 of 8 11/25/2016 2:47 PM CAUTION: Gently tighten the bearing lock nut, and never use an air tool for tightening. b. Turn the hub 3 times in the forward direction. c. Loosen the bearing lock nut. (Target: Approximately 30 ) CAUTION: Do not loosen the bearing lock nut to the point where the hub itself becomes loose. Start the procedure again from the beginning if the nut is excessively loosened. d. Using a bearing nut wrench, tighten the bearing lock nut to the specified tightening torque. Tightening torque: 15 N m (11 lb ft) NOTE: The tightening torque for both new bearings and reused bearings is the same. CAUTION: Start the procedure again from the beginning if the hub nut does not rotate. If the center lock groove in the axle case threaded portion and the slit of the bearing lock nut do not align, align by tightening the bearing lock nut in the minimal tightening torque direction. Start the procedure again from the beginning if tightening is performed with the hole positions inaccurately aligned. e. Turn the hub 3 times in the forward direction. CAUTION: Turn the hub several times in the forward direction and verify that there is no looseness, resistance, or abnormal heaviness. Start the procedure again from the beginning if there is any looseness, resistance, or abnormal heaviness. f. Attach the lock washer. Securely install the lock washer claw in the lock groove of the axle case threaded portion, and use the lock bolt to tighten and fasten the bearing nut and lock washer. Tightening torque = 10 N m (87 lb in) There are 48 equally distanced slits on the bearing nut make the lock positioning easier and secure.
