3 Profibus DP Profibus DP bus terminator with 24 V power supply Profibus DP distributor The Profibus topology is a line structure. The branches (T-pieces) connect the individual field devices or remote I/Os to the bus cable. The length of the branch cable depends on the transmission speed and should be as short as possible. The total of all branch lengths for transmission rates up to 1.5 Maud must not exceed max. 6.6 m. The trunk cable passes through an EMC cable gland into an aluminium enclosure where it is connected to a tension-clamp terminal. The branch cable from the device is connected to a coded M12 socket. The enclosure has a pressure compensation element to counteract the effects of climatic cycles. The guidelines issued by the Profibus user organisation must be observed. Profibus P (EN , IEC , DIN 245) The Profibus P is an open fieldbus standard. It has been specially developed for the requirements of the process industry technology, in particular on remote supply and intrinsic safety. With Profibus P it is possible to operate several sensors and actuators on one common bus cable. Power supply to the devices is via 2-wire technology with digital transmission of the process data. 32 devices can be operated in one segment. Repeaters can extend the maximum number to 126 subscribers with a maximum bus length of 10 km. For a transmission rate of kbit/s, the bus length can reach up to 00 m without repeaters, or up to 1000 m in explosionrisk areas. The bus can be wired as line, tree or star. 4 Profibus P EX- EREICH EX-EREICH EX-EREICH EX-EREICH EX-ER new concept for explosion protection in Europe The so-called TEX directive (from the French atmosphères explosives ), official title 94/9/EC, was made law in the CEN- ELEC member states in 96. The idea behind the new directive was to simplify the previous system, in which national and international standards regulated the changes to the laws of the member states. The legislation was passed under article 100a of the Treaty of Rome (foundation of the European Union), in turn resulting in directive TEX 100a. Previously, standards such as the EN50014 series for hazard zones were incorporated in the EU directive. Given that national legislation requirements are based on this directive, even the slightest changes result in changes to the standards in the corresponding directive and then in national law. The TEX directive is not based on one single standard, but specifies a series of fundamental health and safety requirements. The EN series Harmonised standards supports the TEX directive, but no longer prescribes its content. 9 Profibus P-Industry for industrial applications with overvoltage protection or fuse x1 1 2 x F1 F2 F3 F x7 100R R1 C1 1uF 63 V PE x x x x Example: 4-way module with fuse Profibus P T-connectors are now also available with overvoltage fine protection or integrated fuse to protect connected measuring devices, sensors or actuators from possible overvoltage or short-circuits. Gas divertors and suppressor diodes are used as voltage limiting safety elements, with a resetting fuse to protect the bus subscribers from short-circuits. If a fast voltage pulse reaches the input of a T-connector with overvoltage protection, the gas divertor ignites and deflects the high current. The remaining pulse is limited by a suppressor diode. In the case of a slower increase in voltage, the pulse is only processed by the diode. n external earthing stud connects the enclosure with protective earth. When using the connectors with fuse, the bus subscribers are protected from short circuits by a 100 m fuse. These connectors retain all the advantages of the standard distributors while adding overvoltage and short-circuit protection.
