Basic safety notes 1.2 Applicable documents SCHUNK catalog Modular Assembly Automation Assembly and Operating Manuals of the sensors General terms of business The documents listed up here, can be download on our homepage Basic safety notes Intended use The module is exclusively designed for linear movement of useful loads into any desired position. The module is intended for installation in a machine/system. The requirements of the applicable guidelines must be observed and complied with. The module may be used only in the context of its defined application parameters ( 6, Page 12). SCHUNK assumes that application in question was tested with the calculation program for gripping modules (SSG). To use this unit as intended, it is also essential to observe the technical data and installation and operation notes in this manual and to comply with the maintenance intervals. 2.2 Not intended use It is not an intended use if the module is used, for example, as a pressing tool, stamping tool, lifting gear, guide for tools, cutting tool, clamping device or a drilling tool CLM en
Basic safety notes 2.3 Environmental and operating conditions Make sure that the module and the top jaws are a sufficient size for the application. Ensure that the environment is clean. Observe the maintenance and lubrication intervals. ( 10, Page 26) Make sure that the environment is free from splash water and vapors as well as from abrasion or processing dust. This excludes modules that are designed specially for contaminated environments. 2.4 Product safety Dangers arise from the module, if e.g.: the module is not used in accordance with its intended purpose. the module is not installed or maintained properly. the safety and installation notes are not observed. Avoid any manner of working that may interfere with the function and operational safety of the module. Wear protective equipment. NOTE More information are contained in the relevant chapters Protective equipment Provide protective equipment per EC Machinery Directive Demands on the top jaws Arrange the top jaws such that when the module is depressurized it can reach one of the end positions either open or closed and therefore no residual energy can be released when changing the top jaws Constructional changes, attachments, or modifications Additional drill holes, threads, or attachments that are not offered as accessories by SCHUNK may be attached only with permission of SCHUNK CLM en 7
Basic safety notes 2.5 Personnel qualification The assembly, initial commissioning, maintenance, and repair of the module may be performed only by trained specialist personnel. Every person called upon by the operator to work on the module must have read and understood the complete assembly and operating manual especially the chapter "Basic safety notes" ( 2, Page 6). This applies particularly to personnel only used occasionally, such as maintenance personnel. 2.6 Using personal protective equipment When using this product, observe the relevant industrial safety regulations and use the personal protective equipment (PPE) required! Use protective gloves, safety shoes and safety goggles. Observe safe distances. Minimal safety requirements for the use of equipment. 2.7 Notes on particular risks Generally valid: Remove the energy supplies before installation, modification, maintenance, or adjustment work. Make sure, that no residual energy remains in the system. Do not move parts by hand when the energy supply is connected. Do not reach into the open mechanism or the movement area of the module. Perform maintenance, modifications, and additions outside the danger zone. For all work, secure the unit against accidental operation. Take a precautionary approach by maintenance and disassembly. Only specially trained staff should disassemble the module CLM en
Basic safety notes WARNING Risk of injury from objects falling and being ejected Provide protective equipment to prevent objects from falling or being ejected, such as processed workpieces, tools, chips, fragments, rejects. WARNING Risk of injury when the machine/system moves unexpectedly. WARNING Danger of crushing and impacts during movement of the unit or attachments. Risk of injury due to attachments breaking or becoming loose. Surround the unit with a protective barrier during operation. Risks when decommissioning WARNING Risk of injury possible due to residual energy in the attachments. WARNING Uncontrolled movements of individual gripper components possible during disassembly. Before decommissioning, ensure that no residual energy remains in the system CLM en 9
Accessories 3 Warranty The warranty is valid for 24 months from the delivery date to the production facility under the following conditions: Intended use in 1-shift operation Observe the mandatory maintenance and lubrication intervals. Observe the environmental and operating conditions. Parts touching the work piece and wearing parts are not part of the warranty. NOTE Malfunctions caused by defective components may only be corrected by the replacement of these components. Defective components may only be replaced with SCHUNK original spare parts 4 Scope of delivery The scope of delivery includes: COMPACT LINEAR MODULE CLM in the ordered model including end position damping (or stop collar for CLM08) 5 Accessories A wide range of accessories is available for this module. 14 Adjustment of the shock absorber strocke 7.2 Air Connection NOTICE Possible damage to the linear module! If the module moves too hard against the end positions, the linear module might be damaged. A linear movement alway must reach the end position without jerk or bounce. Therefore flow control valves and shock absorbers must be used. Please observe the diagrams and information in the catalog pages. Note Use connection lines with the same or larger diameter as the connecting thread. observe requirements for the air supply ( 6, Page 12) NOTICE Damage to the linear module when changing the air supply! The shock absorber stroke is too short and the unit arrives in the end position too abruptly. Optimal shock absorber stroke CLM en
Assembly and Settings 7.8 Setting the speed NOTICE Damage to the product is possible! The product can be damaged if it arrives too abruptly in the end position. The exhaust flow control valves and the shock absorbers must be adjusted so that the rotation gradually and smoothly decelerates. 1 Completely close the exhaust flow control valves. 2 Slowly and gradually open the exhaust flow control valves and rotate the load. 3 Further open the exhaust flow control valves until the rotation gradually and smoothly decelerates. If the speed is too low the swivel unit brakes too soon and the end position is reached to slowly. If the speed is too high the swivel unit impacts in the end position and the shock absorber will be overloaded. NOTE NOTE In most cases the rotation will still be too slow. Further adjustment and optimization of the swivel time is achieved via adjusting the shock absorber stroke CLM en 23
Commissioning 8 Commissioning NOTICE Before commissioning! Please read these instructions carefully. Only with the knowledge of this manual errors can be prevented, and trouble-free operation is ensured. Check technical specifications. ( 6, Page 12) Do not use the linear module until you have determined that it is in perfect operating condition, after having checked for compliance with all permissible operating parameters. Regulate the operating speed of the cylinder with regulator valves ( 7.2, Page 14). Starting slow, increase the speed until the desired operating speed is reached CLM en
