2 Installation Remove the top two stock hex bolts from the handelbar assembly Install the replacement riser bolts for the micro vision. Make sure to align the bolts so that the taller top end is to the front of the motorcycle. The recommended torqe specs is 5lb ft. Note: it is recomended to use a square end allen wrench to avoid stripping the replacment bolts. 3 Attach the mounting pegs to the back of the Micro display unit. There are two sets of holes for this, choose the set that aligns with your setup. 4 Place the Micro Display unit with pegs attached onto the riser bolts. The harness will route underneath and out the back of the unit Secure the unit inplace by tightening the hex bolts in the back of the riser bolts. See Figure. 5 Route the the harness down the front of the bike and along the left side of the tank. The example in figure 3 was done on a 00 Roadking, your setup may differ sightly. 3 Connecting the wiring harness Use the following instructions to connect the Micro Display wiring harness. Connect the Micro Display harness 8-way connectors together. Route the cable harness back out from underneath the speedo housing and through the motorcycle underneath the left hand side of the tank. Cable tie the harness out of the way as you progress to the battery area of the motorcycle. The temperature sensor ring terminal should drop down from under the left hand side of the tank to the engine mount bolt area. 3 Remove the forward 3/8-inch engine mount hex bolt on the left hand side of the engine. 4 Place the temperature sensor ring terminal underneath with the supplied aluminium washer between the underside of the bolt and the temperature sensor. 5 Re-install the 3/8-inch bolt. Verify the temperature sensor cable does get damaged through twisting, crushing, or becomes deformed. 6 Cable tie this part of the cable harness so the temperature sensor does not see movement or excessive vibration. Figure 3: Install the Temperature Sensor Cable Figure 4: Insulate Connection 0 Remove a small piece of wire insulation and solder, or use the included posi-tap, the yellow tachometer/ RPM ignition coil sensing wire. Note: If you solder this connection, you must either use the supplied heat shrink or insulating tape to insulate this wire connection. If you wish to take advantage of the indicator and high beam repeaters on the Micro Display, solder, or use an included posi-tap, the corresponding wires together underneath the speedo housing. Use the bikes wiring diagram to locate the left hand, right hand, and high beam wires under the speedo housing. In this example, the Road King original wire colors match the Micro Display cable harness colors. Note: If you solder this connection, you must either use the supplied heat shrink or insulating tape to insulate this wire connection. 3 Once you have made all your cable harness connections, position the speedo housing on the tank and tighten the /-inch bolt. Refer to Figure. 7 Connect the red eyelet ring terminal to the positive terminal of the battery. 8 Connect the black eyelet ring terminal to the negative terminal of the battery. 9 Locate the bikes ignition coil signal wire for either the front or rear cylinder. 4 Programming Setup The green wire loop needs to be pulled from the end of the cable harness. This wire is replaced back inside the harness when you have finished the set-up procedure. There are two different set-up wire actions. Each set-up wire action requires the green set-up wire to be touched onto the negative terminal of the battery. A short set-up wire press (one second) to adjust parameters in each A longer set-up wire hold (three seconds until the blue shiftlight LED illuminates, then release the set-up wire) to either enter set-up or to confirm the parameters and move onto the next set-up Figure 6: Green Set-up wire Enter set-up. You can only enter set-up during the first forty-five seconds after applying power to the Micro Display. You may need to remove the fuse and then refit to achieve this forty-five second set-up condition. Note: The engine is not running at this stage. Perform a set-up wire hold. Note: Remember this can only be done during the first forty-five seconds of power up. Select the backlight color. The backlight color can be changed from standard to blue. Perform a set-up wire press. Toggle between the two different colors by performing a set-up wire press. Once you have selected the color, perform a set-up wire hold to move on to the next setup 3 Set the time. Set the time by adjusting the hour digit first. Perform a set-up wire press to adjust the hour digit. Each set-up wire press will increment the hour digit to the desired number. Once you have selected the number, perform a set-up wire hold to move on to the first minutes digit. Perform a set-up wire press to adjust the first minute digit. Each set-up wire press will increment the first minute digit to the desired number. Once you have selected the number, perform a set-up wire hold to move on to the second minutes digit. Perform a set-up wire press to adjust the second minute digit. Each set-up wire press will increment the second minute digit to the desired number. Once you have selected the number, perform a set-up wire hold to move on to the next 4 Set the clock time zone to AM or PM. The clock time zone needs to be set as either A (AM) or P (PM). Perform a set-up wire press to select the correct time zone. Once you have selected the time zone, perform a set-up wire hold to move on to the next 5 Set the shiftlight dimming time. Set the shiftlight dimming time by adjusting the hour digit first. Perform a set-up wire press to adjust the hour digit. Each set-up wire press will increment the hour digit to the desired number. Once you have selected the number, perform a set-up wire hold to move on to the first minutes digit. Perform a set-up wire press to adjust the first minute digit. Each set-up wire press will increment the first minute digit to the desired number. Once you have selected the number, perform a set-up wire hold to move on to the second minutes digit. Perform a set-up wire press to adjust the second minute digit. Each set-up wire press will increment the second minute digit to the desired number. Once you have selected the number, perform a set-up wire hold to move on to the next 6 Set the temperature units to C or F. Perform a set-up wire press to select the correct temperature unit. Once you have selected the temperature unit, perform a set-up wire hold to move on to the next 7 Verify the Micro Display is detecting the tachometer/rpm signal. Note: The motorcycle engine must be running to perform this procedure and the rest of the set-up procedures. The Micro Display is able to detect either a normal volt ignition system tachometer/ RPM signal from the ignition coil signal wire or a CDI ignition coil signal. Verify you see either of the green shiftlight LEDs flashing in unison with the engine and the RPM bar display operating. 5 Programming Setup (continued) 8 Set the RPM signal divider. The correct RPM indication must be set using an RPM divider. Perform a set-up wire press to reduce the RPM reading. Each set-up wire press will reduce the actual RPM reading by 50%. This RPM divider number is shown in the temp section of the Micro Display.Refer to Micro Display Features on page for more information on locating the temp The total number of reductions is limited to eight (8) after which one () will appear again in the temp section of the Micro Display. Select the correct idle RPM indication by performing a set-up wire press. Once you can see the correct idle RPM indication, perform a set-up wire hold to move on to the next 9 Set the shiftlight indication point. The default shiftlight RPM indication point is set to 4,000 RPM and is the lowest indication point achievable. You will see that both green shiftlight LEDs will be flashing during this set-up stage and the number 400 is shown in the temp section of the Micro Display. 400 and is equal to 4,000 RPM, 40 is equal to 4,00 RPM, and so on. Perform a set-up wire press to adjust the shiftlight indication point digit. Each set-up wire press will increment the shiftlight indication point to the desired number. Once you have selected the number, perform a set-up wire hold to authenticate and exit the set-up programming sections. The Micro Display will now automatically start functioning. 0 Place the green set-up wire back inside the harness for protection. The engine can now be switched off. General Micro Display Function and Maintenence Once the Micro Display has been programmed and the bike is not running you will be able to take advantage of the Micro Display s very low current draw and view some of the functions of the Micro Display without starting the bike. Time, temperature, and volts will be displayed whether the engine is running or not. The RPM bar graph indicator will only function when the engine is running. All three of the indicator LEDs will illuminate at the defined shiftlight indication point. The LEDs also function as secondary repeaters if you have wired in the three wires as shown in Figure 6 on page 8. Remember that all the LEDs will dim to half brightness at the defined time you have set. Refer to step 9 on page for more information on setting the shiflight indication point. Be aware that upon engine switch off you may see the RPM bar graph pulse or even the shiftlights blink, this is normal and is due to the different ignition coil signals being sampled at the very time of switch off. The backlight on this Micro Display is designed to function at all times when the engine is running. There may be a momentary pause before the backlight goes off and the RPM bar graph segments disappear after switching off the engine, this is normal. Always keep the Micro Display clean. Take care to use a good quality chrome polish when keeping your new Micro Display clean. Ensure you blow away any excess dust from the Micro Display lens before cleaning to prevent any scratching.
