5 All for crop quality Large wheels On wet soils, appreciate the high flotation advantages of dual wheels on Alterna 500, or the super-single wheels on the Alterna 400. 6 Mower Conditioners ALTERNA 400/500/500 R For conditioning the widest range of crops Kuhn offers the exclusive FingerComb system 5 The most versatile conditioning system available with its free swinging fingers specially designed to condition the broadest range of crops. The cylindrical fingers, of high quality forged steel, lift, condition and carry the crop from the cutterbar through the comb. The conditioning is regular and homogeneous. Contrary to some sharp edged metal flails, the cylindrical fingers do not damage delicate crops. A B Conditioning adjustment The conditioning intensity changes with the degree of overlap between comb teeth and rotor fingers. Conditioning is increased or reduced by means of a lever. Comb in raised position: little conditioning effect. Reversible comb The reversible comb has two sides: A One (rounded) for conditioning delicate crops and B One for gramineous crops. The conditioning intensity can be set at will and evenly over the whole cutting width. DIAMOND BLOCK rollers: efficient smooth conditioning The profile of the Diamond Block rolls improves conditioning by increasing the amount of roll intermesh. This results in more uniform and even crimping of the crop regardless of the orientation of the crop as it enters the rolls. This patented profile ensures conditioning evenness of all crops. Cutterbar protection - rigid and sturdy cutterbar gearcase, manufactured from a high grade steel and reinforced by underside shields and a stiffener. - discs are protected by skids fitted with wear plates located under the cutterbar. - deflector shields located between the disc skids on the front of each cutterbar prevent a bent knife from damaging the cutterbar....inside as well! - Large diameter gearwheels in high tensile forged steel, - High capacity bearings (double row angular contact ball bearings) on all pinions. Quickly removable disc bearing stations - Disc pinions are mounted on reinforced double row angular contact ball bearings, mounted in a rigid one piece cast housing. - Removal of disc bearing stations, as well as intermediate idler gears, is quick and easy, minimising downtime. 10 Mower Conditioners ALTERNA 400/500/500 R Excellent ease of operation even with a machine of this size! 9 A transport width reduced to 2.50 m/8 2 for such a large machine! 1 2 New: Braking system A perfect synchronisation Depending on the road regulations, there are two versions available: 1 Hydraulic braking system 2 Pneumatic braking system. Placing the machine in transport/work position (and vice versa) is carried out from the tractor cab. 1. Responding to the hydraulic controls, the machine pivots to place itself in working position. 2. The transport wheels are folded up. 3. At the same time, the working wheels are lowered. 4. The ALTERNA then completes its rotation. GYRODINE swivel hitch The GYRODINE swivel hitch is lubricated by means of an integrated pump: one maintenance point, no leaks. GYRODINE swivel hitch for sharp turns The driver no longer has to worry about the PTO when making sharp turns. The distance between the tractor PTO and machine stays the same, U-joint angles remain constant no matter how sharp the tractor turns. Protection of drive components The drive components are protected from overload and shock by means of a friction slip and an over running clutch. Minimum maintenance and maximum reliability The Gyrodine gearbox drives the mower-conditioner unit by means of a large diameter shaft.

11 Comfort and time savings 10 Centralised controls - All the functions are controlled by an electro/hydraulic bloc fitted on the machine. - Hydraulic and electrical power is supplied through two double acting hydraulic outlets and one electrical socket on the tractor. Electrical remote control An electric selector lever combined with the double acting valve controls the transport wheel raising/lowering. Parking stand When uncoupled, the machine rests on a built-in parking stand, making it easy and safe for hitching and unhitching. Save time and improve crop quality Reduce time between mowing and closing your forage silo For grass remaining in the field, there is a loss in sugar, nitrogen content as well as digestibility. The faster silage making is completed, the faster the total crop nutritional value is preserved.
