7 Lon-works Lon-works Lon-Works communication REGIN have started developing products with LonWorks as the medium of communication. In order to facilitate as far as possible for the customer we have chosen, wherever feasible, to follow existing standards. All files and documents required for getting the system up and running can be downloaded from our net website. In order to increase awareness and spread knowledge of Lon technology, Regin together with a number of other partners has started a training programme for LonWorks combined with indoor climate control. The technique LonWorks is a fieldbus system applicable to a broad variety of applications. The technology has been developed by Echelon who also supplies some of the components necessary for development and communication. The fundamentals of LonWorks lie in the protocol, LonTalk, which is implemented in a microprocessor, called the Neuron-chip. The Neuron is designed for the handling of I/O-tasks and communication. Each LonWorks-node consists of a Neuron and a transceiver and the Neuron is actually three microprocessors pipelined into one chip. The separate processors handle communication, fault-handling and I/O. The Neuron hold a firmware that works as an operating system co-ordinating the three processors' work. One of the benefits gained from the firmware is that it handles all the communicational tasks and therefore abstracts that layer from the developer. This means that the application becomes independent of the communicational media. A LonWorks-network is made up of the LonWorks-nodes and a database describing the configuration and connections between the nodes. This database is called the NSS and is available as an embedded device, called the NSS-10 and as a software component for Windows95/98/NT/2000. The NSS is interacted upon by commands to the NSS-10 or through the LCA-framework. LCA stands for LonWorks Component Architecture and it provides an interface to the NSS for the Windows developer to use. The LCA- Server is an Active X-server that may be used with most of the programming languages for the Windows-environment. To enable old software packages to be able to access the LonWorks-network a DDE-Server for the LNS (NSS+LCA) has been developed. This server utilises the Dynamic Data Exchange standard for exchanging data between applications in the Windows-environment. InTouch, LabView, MS Excel and other software packages support the DDEstandard. The ventilation and heating are both controlled by the accesscontrol system that will adjust the controllers according to the presence in the building. The access control system also has the ability to identify which offices are occupied and uses that information to control the separate room-controllers. To use electric power even more efficiently all separate office-spaces are equipped with presence detectors that control the lighting. The ventilation and heating controllers share the outdoor temperature sensor and the entire system has a unified user-interface presented to the operators. A system operator may log in using the same userinterface as the operators but will be able through a web-based access control mechanism to adjust parameters that would not be accessible to the ordinary operators. The actual connection between the operators and the web-server may be through a LAN, the Internet or a dial-up connection. There are more than 5 million LonWorks devices operating around the world today. Roughly 4000 companies design their products for use in LonWorks-networks. The powerful standardisation organisations, ANSI and EIA have both adopted LonWorks as a standard for control networks. LonWorks goes under the official code ANSI/EIA (0) Chapter 0 Page 7

17 Controllers for electric heating Electric heating controller with display Wall mounting Pulser-DSP is a zone controller intended for electric heating control. The controller can be connected to one- or two-phase electric heating i.e. electric batteries, radiators etc. Pulser-DSP has a built in sensor and an external sensor can also be used. Presence detector can be connected for control of so called comfort heating. This means, when the room (local) is empty, the controller is set in stand-by position with reduced setpoint. Setpoint, P-band and stand-by settings etc. are set by means of buttons on the front. PULSER-DSP Electric heating controller Lon-communication With +/-3 C adjustment Pulser-Lon is a zone controller based on Lon-technology. It has a triac output for controlling electric heating (10A) and an extra output (cooling or heating), 3-position or 24V thermal actuator. The controller has a built in sensor and setpoint knob where the setpoint can be shifted +/- 3 C. An external sensor or setpoint device can also be used. Pulser-Lon can operate in different running modes: present, non-present and stand-by. The basic setpoint can be shifted with different values for heating and cooling. Zone control becomes operational when a window is open and is indicated via the output for window indication. If the temperature falls below the setpoint the relay falls and an alarm LED will light up. The unit is connected to a REGIN NTC sensor that is placed in the heating coil or on the return-pipes from the heater. Sensor must have temperature range degrees, i e type TG-A130 or TG-B130. When there is a frost risk FV1/D has one V control output that can be used to force the valve to open.
