1 Solenoid valve Solenoid valve Solenoid Coil Plunger Valve body A simple solenoid valve consists ofi: Valve body with a plunger the plunger is made of metal Coil an electrical coil if the coil is given electricity The coil will produce a magnetic force. HOW IT WORKS: If the coil is energized there will be magnetic force the metal plunger will be attracted by the magnetic force & will be pulled upward the main valve will be open

2 Direct type of solenoid valve (1/4 & 3/8 size) Neutral Neutral LIVE SWITCH OFF LIVE SWITCH ON Usually the electricity will be passed-on by a SWITCH. When the position of the switch is OFF The solenoid valve coil has not received electricity Solenoid valve will be closed When the switch position is ON the solenoid valve s coil will be energized Solenoid valve will be open

3 Pilot type solenoid valve Bigger sizes of solenoid valve (1/2 2 size) will be a pilot operated type. Inside the solenoid valve there will be: COIL, CORE (metal) & DIAPHRAGM

4 Pilot type solenoid valve SWITCH OFF For example, the solenoid valve type is a NORMALLY CLOSED type. When the switch is in OFF condition solenoid valve s coil has not been energized the main valve is still closes the fluid will goes to the solenoid main valve inlet connection but the fluid cannot go to the solenoid valve s outlet then some portion of the fluid will go to the upper part of the diaphragm through a very small hole the fluid will occupy the upper space above the diaphragm & it will push the diaphragm downward resulting the main valve will be closed tightly.

5 Pilot type solenoid valve SWITCH ON If the switch is in ON condition the solenoid valve s coil will be energized the coil will create a magnetic force the CORE located below the coil s metal stem will be pulled upward by the magnetic force the fluid on the upper part of the diaphragm will drained out through a small hole (previously is closed by the CORE) resulting there will be no fluid pressure in the upper space above the diaphragm then the fluid coming into the main solenoid valve body will push the diaphragm upward solenoid valve will be open.

6 Pilot type solenoid valve SWITCH OFF Now CORE moves down to close the orifice hole in the middle of the diaphragm If the switch is in OFF condition once again the solenoid valve s coil will be DEenergized the magnetic force of the coil is gone resulting the CORE goes down to close the small hole in the middle of the diaphragm Some portion of the incoming fluid will be coming into the upper part of the diaphragm & occupy that space then the fluid pressure above the diaphragm will push the diaphragm downward the main valve will be close again.

8 Namur type solenoid valve Namur type solenoid valve can be connected directly on the pneumatic actuator body without any instrument fiiting & tubing attached to it.

9 How it works If the coil is energized it will create magnetic force the plunger will be pulled by the magnetic force the air will coming into the pilot chamber it will push the piston forward the spools will move forward it will arrange a certain opening for the air to come into or out of the pneumatic actuator If the coil is DE-energized the magnetic force is gone the plunger will re-seated back & close the incoming air inlet the spools will move backward to the initial position it will arrange a certain closing for the air that come into or out of the pneumatic actuator
