5 4000 Series Stepper REMOVE STEPPER BRAKE 4000 SERIES 1. Remove hood. 2. Push belt tensioning bearing clockwise to release the pressure off the belt to remove the belt. 3. Remove 15/16 nut that holds on the flywheel and remove the flywheel. 4. Remove the small 2 pulley of the brake with a 9/64 allen wrench. 5. Disconnect the (2) white wires going to the lower board. 6. Remove the (3) 10/32 nuts that hold the brake in place. 7. Replace in reverse order. ADJUSTING THE BRAKING POWER 1. Remove the hood. 2. Step up on the pedals and set the upper display to 15 feet per min. or level After one minute it should take 7 seconds for the pedals to go from the top of the stroke to the bottom. 4. On the lower board there is a small potentiometer that is turned counterclockwise for. more power. This adjustment is very small only from 3:00 to 2:30 or 2:00. NOTE: You must adjust pot setting when installing board SERIES 5
6 STEPPER CABLE REMOVAL 4000 SERIES 1. Remove hood. 2. (Note) Cable is wrapped counterclockwise starting from the inside going out. 3. (Important note) Do not remove both cable at one time. 4. When replacing cable be sure the ball on the cable lines up with the drive hub hole. 6
7 CHECK OR REPLACE FUSE 1. This is located under the bike where the power cord connects. 2. Pull out the slot in the bottom of the power supply holder. 3. The fuse is a 15 amp. 5x20mm part# LOWER BOARD WIRING DIAGRAM FOR STEPPER 4000 SERIES HOW TO REPLACE EPROM 1. Unplug machine. 2. Remove four screws that hold upper board in casing. 3. Unplug ribbon cable and heartrate monitor. 4. Remove 4 or 5 hex standoffs from the display board fig.1 (A) 5. Turn display board over and remove EPROM fig. 1 (B), and replace with new EPROM with the notch in the same direction. 6. Reverse order to assemble. Fig 1 7

REV FOR CHECK SPEED SENSOR FOR ALIGNMENT a. CENTER OF FLYWHEEL b. 1/8 TO 3/16 DISTANCE OFF FLYWHEEL c. CHECK CONNECTION TO LOWER BOARD FOR GOOD CONNECTION. 3. REPLACE LOWER BOARD IF ABOVE DOES NOT CORRECT PROBLEM B. CAN NOT MOVE PEDALS ON CLIMBER. 1. CHECK DISPLAY FOR CORRECT DIP SWITCH SETTING BY UNPLUGGING THE MACHINE AND THEN PLUG IT BACK IN AND LOOKING AT THE FIRST LED S ON THE LEFT ( THE TIME WINDOW). a. STEPPER DISPLAY S # 01. b. BIKE DISPLAY S # 00. C. UPPER CONTROL PANEL GOES BLANK AND PEDALS GO TO FLOOR ( NO RESISTANCE) 1. CHECK FUSE 2. CHECK RIBBON CABLE CONNECTION ON LOWER & UPPER BOARDS 3. CHECK FOR 110V AT BLACK(AC1) & WHITE(AC2) WIRE ON LOWER BOARD. 4. REPLACE LOWER BOARD. D. UPPER CONTROL PANEL GOES BLANK AND PEDALS LOCK UP 1. CHECK RIBBON CABLE CONNECTION ON LOWER & UPPER BOARDS 2. REPLACE LOWER BOARD 8
9 E. UPPER BOARD WORKING - CAN T CHANGE RESISTANCE - PEDALS GO TO FLOOR SLOWLY 1. CHECK DIP SWITCH SETTING, SHOULD BE CHECK POT ADJUSTMENT ON LOWER BOARD 2. REPLACE LOWER BOARD F. UPPER BOARD HAS POWER BUT NO LIGHTS - PEDALS GO TO FLOOR - NO RESISTANCE 1. REPLACE LOWER BOARD G. IN QUICK START PEDALS GO TO FLOOR BUT IN PROGRAM IT WORKS. 1. REPLACE LOWER BOARD H. PEDALS LOCK UP IN PROGRAM 1. CHECK SPEED SENSOR ADJUSTMENT AND CONNECTION TO LOWER BOARD. 2. CHECK RIBBON CONNECTION AT LOWER & UPPER BOARDS 3. REPLACE LOWER BOARD I. UPPER BOARD BLINKING NUMBERS OFF/ON THEN GOES DEAD. 1. CHECK RIBBON CABLE CONNECTIONS 2. UNPLUG AND PLUG MACHINE TO RESET. 3. REPLACE LOWER BOARD J. NO RESISTANCE ON PEDALS... SCIFIT GOES AWAY..CAN PROGRAM. 1. NO SPEED SIGNAL, CHECK FPM READOUT ON THE DISPLAY. ADJUST THE SPEED PICKUP ACCORDING. 2. (2) WHITE WIRES ARE DISCONNECTED GOING TO THE BRAKE. 3. WRONG DIP SWITCH SETTING ON DISPLAY (01 ONLY). 4. CHECK THE VOLTAGE ON THE WHITE OR BLUE WIRES 24V DC.(see pg.7) 5. CHECK THE V-BELT INSIDE SERIES ONLY. 6. REPLACE LOWER BOARD K. VERY LITTLE RESISTANCE AT ANY LEVEL...PEDALS GO TO FLOOR. 1. CHECK SPEED SENSOR ADJUSTMENT AND CONNECTION. 2. INCREASE POT ADJUSTMENT ON LOWER BOARD FOR MORE BRAKE 3. REPLACE LOWER BOARD L. MACHINE DOES NOT POWER UP. 1. POWER CORD UNPLUGGED OR NO POWER AT OUTLET. 2. BLOWN FUSE. REPLACE FUSES (SEE PAGE 6) 3. RIBBON CABLE HAS A BAD CONNECTION OR IS NOT FULLY PLUGGED IN. REMOVE THE CONNECTIONS AT THE UPPER AND LOWER BOARDS, AND INSERT BACK INTO THE SOCKET. M. HEART RATE DISPLAYS ZERO (0) IN WINDOW 1. THE CHEST STRAP AND TRANSMITTER MUST BE PROPERLY WORN. 2. VERIFY THAT THERE IS GOOD SKIN CONTACT WITH THE TRANSMITTER UNIT IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. 3. CHECK SENSOR LEAD CONNECTION AT THE UPPER BOARD. 4. IF NO AUDIBLE SIGNAL, REPLACE RECEIVER. N. BEARING NOISE INSIDE THE STEPPER. 1. BEARINGS ARE LOCATED INSIDE THE MAIN HUBS, BELT TENSIONER, ON 4000 SERIES. 2. CABLE PULLEYS AND THE BRAKE ON 4000 AND 8000 SERIES 9
10 O. LEVEL 3 IS LIKE LEVEL 7 1. CHECK SPEED SENSOR ADJUSTMENT AND CONNECTION. 2. ADJUST POT ON LOWER BOARD P. PEDALS WILL NOT GO DOWN WITH A LIGHT PERSON ON CLIMBER BUT WORKS WITH A HEAVY PERSON. 1. CHECK SPEED SENSOR ADJUSTMENT AND CONNECTION. 2. ADJUST POT ON LOWER BOARD Q. PEDALS GO TO FLOOR OR VERY LITTLE RESISTANCE WITH A HEAVY PERSON ON THE CLIMBER BUT WORKS WITH A LIGHTER PERSON. 1. CHECK SPEED SENSOR ADJUSTMENT AND CONNECTION 2. ADJUST POT ON LOWER BOARD. R. LEVEL 7 IS LIKE LEVEL CHECK SPEED SENSOR ADJUSTMENT AND CONNECTION 2. ADJUST POT ON LOWER BOARD. S. AFTER ONE MINUTE IN A PROGRAM THE CLIMBER GOES BACK TO SCROLLING SCIFIT PEDALS LOCK UP AND STARTS THE PROGRAMMING OVER AGAIN. 1. CHECK RIBBON CABLE CONNECTION IN UPPER & LOWER BOARDS, 2. CHECK SOFTWARE FOR CORRECT REVISION (9055) 3. IF OK, REPLACE UPPER BOARD T. PROGRAM STOPS... LINES OF DOTS SHOOT ACROSS SCREEN. 1. CHECK RIBBON CABLE CONNECTION 2. REPLACE UPPER BOARD U. CLIMBER SHUTS DOWN IN PROGRAM, PEDALS GO TO FLOOR, BUT WORKS IN MANUAL. 1. REPLACE UPPER BOARD V. WATER IN UPPER CONTROL PANEL...SHORTED OUT UPPER BOARD..NO HOLES WERE DRILLED IN UPPER DISPLAY HOUSING. 1. REPLACE UPPER BOARD, RIBBON CABLE, HEART RATE RECEIVER DRILL HOLES IN HOUSING. W. SCIFIT SCROLLING DOES NOT GO AWAY AFTER STEPPING UP ON PEDALS 1. CHECK DIP SWITCH SETTING, SHOULD BE CHECK POT ADJUSTMENT ON LOWER BOARD. 3. CHECK SPEED SENSOR ADJUSTMENT. X.
