1 Version 1.1 grade boundaries - June 2008 exams (AS and A2) Here you can see the scaled mark component grade boundaries for AS and A2 units. Generally, units consist of just one component so no scaling is necessary. In these instances the scaled mark grade boundaries are the same as the raw mark grade boundaries. In some specifications a unit consists of two components (eg Mathematics unit MS1A which comprises components MS/SS1A/W and MS/SS1A/C). Each component then contributes a specific weight to the overall unit mark and scaling factors are applied to the individual component marks to ensure that each component carries the correct weighting. The grade A and E boundaries are set at component level and these boundaries are then scaled and added to provide grade A and E boundaries for the unit as a whole. The grade B, C and D boundaries are determined by interpolation at a unit level and are not set for the constituent components. Because of the order in which rounding takes place, the component boundaries described in this document for these multi-component units should be considered as notional as sometimes the sum of the scaled component boundaries may differ from the unit boundary. For grading purposes a candidate s overall unit mark is compared to the overall unit boundaries as supplied in the results documentation. Uniform mark grade boundaries can be found in Appendix A of the Uniform Marks Leaflet For further information, contact Research@aqa.org.uk.
