Arapahoe Community College Castle Rock Campus Assessment Plan Data Organization Castle Rock Campus Assessment Period Outcome/Goal Measure 1 Type: Measure 1 Description: Measure 1 Sample Size: Measure 1 Benchmark 1) Describe the benchmark for this measure. 2) What is the rationale for choosing this Measure 2 Type: Measure 2 Description: Measure 2 Sample Size: Measure 2 Benchmark 1) Describe the benchmark for this measure. 2) What is the rationale for choosing this Information Management: Castle Rock Campus: Identify tools and reports which will help to determine the course offerings and niche programs that will best serve the Castle Rock Community. Direct Institutional data A trend analysis will be run utilizing a number of sources: current student and community member surveys; course tally reports; demographic and economic information; faculty feedback (and their community connection); and the degrees of designation with the 4-year universities. 90% of the course offerings will be geared toward AA degree completion and undeclared majors. The enrollment data pointing to the courses students were interested in taking and examination of the courses that were cancelled the previous year. Please select This benchmark was chosen so we could be sure we were gauging the needs of the community through the schedule and course offerings in Castle Rock.
Outcomes Met/not met Measure 1 Results: Measure 2 Results: Arapahoe Community College Met benchmark In planning the schedule and course offerings for Castle Rock, we used data showing enrollment trends and course offerings to best determine what courses to schedule and to better refine the offerings for an AA degree. We learned that non-gt courses, and ones not geared toward the AA, were more likely to be cancelled due to low enrollment. This can be seen with the cancellation of certain business and criminology courses. See attached file which shows which classes were cancelled since 2011 and a sample enrollment report. CR Run Cancelled by semester.xlsx gokoutd.csv 1) How did unit/department performance compare to the 2) How does the data compare to the previous year, if applicable? 3) If multiple measures were used, how do they compare to each other? 1) Based on the findings, how does the unit/department rate performance in regards to this outcome (strong exceeds benchmark, neutral meets benchmark, or weak misses benchmark)? Benchmark met, by Spring of 2013 over 90% of Castle Rock courses were geared toward fulfilling the AA degree. Compared to last year we showed fewer cancelled classes and more of a cycle of typical courses geared toward the AA. For example, Art Appreciation being offered in the fall and Music Appreciation being offered in the spring. Furthermore, we continued to see enrollment struggle in non- GT classes such as business and criminology. Another useful tool has been the enrollment report that we pull from Banner during open registration. This has helped us determine how quickly certain classes fill and if we need to ask for addtional course offerings because certain ones have filled. Surpassed benchmark
2) How does this assessment affect plans for this coming year in terms of strategic planning, budget planning, administrative and educational support unit planning, and assessment planning? Further Action: Describe the action plan: Person/ Group responsible for action Target Date for implementation of the action Priority Arapahoe Community College Describe any additional resources needed (Leave blank if no additional resources are needed.) This assessment has been important in terms of defining an identity for Castle Rock and gauging the needs of the community. Moving forward we are becoming more strategic by assessing Parker's offerings when we create the schedule. In that way, our students can have two choices when looking at ways to fulfill their AA degree. Futhermore, if students do not respond to Accounting which is being offered in Fall of 2013, we will re-evaluate the AA in Business which was a pathway we have been examining. Organization Castle Rock Campus Assessment Period Outcome/Goal Measure 1 Type: Measure 1 Description: Communication: Community and Workforce Partnership division will assess the information sharing and division wide communication processes by utilizing existing software. Direct Data tracking 100% of CWP staff will use Sharepoint at least once during the assessment period; assessment period will act as a benchmark time period for number of communication activities, number of consistent users, and timeliness of communication; reduction in the number of s sent; reduction in meeting time spent on information sharing
Measure 1 Sample Size: Measure 1 Benchmark 1) Describe the benchmark for this measure. 2) What is the rationale for choosing this Measure 2 Type: Measure 2 Description: Measure 2 Sample Size: Measure 2 Benchmark 1) Describe the benchmark for this measure. 2) What is the rationale for choosing this Outcomes Met/not met Measure 1 Results: Measure 2 Results: Arapahoe Community College (rather than work and discussion). 100% of CWP staff will use Sharepoint at least once during the assessment period. Benchmark will ensure all CWP staff understand the Sharepoint software uses and how to utilize the basic communication tools. Please select Missed benchmark Measure 1 During this first time using SharePoint as a communication tool the goal was to have 100% participation of CWP staff. In total, there were 16 CWP employees that installed SharePoint, signed into the workspace and either received information or posted information. This represents 76% of the employees in CWP. Although the goal was not met, this will be a new benchmark for future assessment projects. 1) How did unit/department performance compare to the 2) How does the data compare to the previous year, if applicable? The benchmark goal was 100% participation. This goal was not met. The new benchmark will be 76% participation. This was the first year. 3) If multiple measures were used, how Only one measure was used.
do they compare to each other? 1) Based on the findings, how does the unit/department rate performance in regards to this outcome (strong exceeds benchmark, neutral meets benchmark, or weak misses benchmark)? 2) How does this assessment affect plans for this coming year in terms of strategic planning, budget planning, administrative and educational support unit planning, and assessment planning? Further Action: Describe the action plan: Person/ Group responsible for action Target Date for implementation of the action Priority Arapahoe Community College Describe any additional resources needed (Leave blank if no additional resources are needed.) Missed benchmark This project and outcomes will affect the assessment planning in that the CWP will use this as the communication planning and assessment project next fiscal and academic year. Budget and strategic planning are minimally impacted due to the nature of the project. Further Action Planned Further action planned includes increasing the number of posts from the dean; increasing the number of resources shared; increasing the number of individual users posting information; and increasing the number of employees with an account. The Dean of CWP will be responsible for driving participation and postings in the upcoming year. The director of each unit will also determine the appropriate uses of SharePoint for their needs. 07/01/2013 Medium
