By installing THE EDGE luminaires in the parking lot, SuperValu s Cub Foods not only earned LEED credits but became the first commercial parking lot in Minnesota to be illuminated using LED lights. Our goal is to achieve LEED Gold 2.2 Certification and BetaLED products contributed to earning credits by presenting significant energy savings, said Scott Reinke, senior project manager for SuperValu Real Estate and Store Development. In addition to energy savings, BetaLED fixtures also meet the City s strict regulations on light pollution. While achieving the City s light trespass requirements, BetaLED provides desired light levels which help improve visibility and security for our customers, said Reinke. THE EDGE canopy fixtures, featuring petroleum symmetric optics, outperformed existing HID lighting technology in longevity and bright directional light. The visible result is a more inviting atmosphere for customers. After testing the half-led, half-hid lighting for 30 days, Murphy s remaining HID fixtures were replaced entirely with THE EDGE luminaires. With the addition of THE EDGE security fixture with Type III optics, the entire property is now lit with BetaLED fixtures, creating a cleaner, safer parking lot that costs considerably less for the store s owners.
