Road Side Sprayer Line
Why Spray Road Tops?
Reduce Graders Cutting Sod Cut Edge Retains Water High Sod Ridge Created Cutting Sod into Gravel
Reduce Extra Grader Passes to Control Vegetation Cut shoulder first, then bringing back
Unacceptable Road Edge Without Combination Spray and Grade Program Road Surface 4 Inches Lower than Road Shoulder Ditch 4 Inches Higher Than Road Top
Reduce Water Retained on Road Edge When the retained water does leave the road top, there is often erosion that cuts down the slope.
Road Top and Edge Sprayed, No Sod or Weeds in the Gravel Row, No Stepped Cut Edge.
Matching A Need With A Solution Road top spraying, the safe and cost effective alternative. No grass, weeds or sod ridges Gravel Retention Clean, smooth and safe roads No cut edge or water retention
The Solution
Ag Shield has the Lowest Risk to Drift to Nearby Crops Sensitive crops are often on both sides of the problem road.
We Reduce Overspray! Competitors boomless sprayer above extremely susceptible to drift onto none target areas- note drift back onto road-- Nozzle starts at road shoulder 4 feet above the roadwayrelies upon high pressures- and have high percentage of small driftable fine droplets. Boomless units have given spraying a bad name in roadway herbicide use.
Industry leading drift control keeps you- Reduce risk and liability of spray drift to fields Patented Shields create a zero wind chamber that stops drift in winds up to 25 MPH with a 15 mph forward speed Shields create a swirl pattern that thoroughly coats plants for superior weed control
Ag Shield operates close to the ground- reduces drift
Gauge wheels at center maintain correct boom height- NO DRIFT
Outer end gauge wheel maintains boom at correct height- NO DRIFT
5 ft Round Up on Road Top
7 ft - Round Up on Road Top
Cost of Grader Operation Average of 400 miles (2 sided) of road side maintenance. -$ avg. per hour cost for grader and labor -4 mph avg. speed = $60.00 cost per mile (2 sided mile) $24, estimated operating cost for 400 miles
Cost of Road Top Spraying Round Up Application: $60.00 avg. per hour cost for truck and labor 15 mph avg. speed $8.00 per mile 2 sided application cost Chemical: Road Top - 7 ft both sides-1.7 acres per road mile Round Up at $5/ liter of 480 g/l $8.50 per mile $16.50 cost per 2 sided mile application & chemical
Grading versus Spraying road top $50,000 $45,000 $40,000 $35,000 $30,000 $25,000 $20,000 $15,000 $10,000 $5,000 $4k $9K $13K $18K $22K $26K $30K $35K Grader RoundUp 5ft RoundUp 7 ft Savings $ Miles Note: Based on 400 (2 sided) mile average. Cost Comparison: Grader( yellow) $24,000 less spraying(orange) $6,000 Savings: $18,000 (green) for one pass with sprayer compared to one pass with grader.
Owners Say Road Top Spraying Benefits Save an average of two grader passes per season Controlled spraying with no drift, reducing risk and liability Effectively manages grass/weeds on road top and shoulder Allows for effective/efficient grading of road, feathering and retention of gravel Eliminates sod ridges and grass clumps, further reducing water retention and possible wash outs Traffic travels safer on smooth clean roadway
Owners Say Road Top Spraying Benefits Allows for effective leveling of old roads and ridges Secondary roads/road allowances can be effectively/efficiently maintained without grading Saves considerable time and resources Significantly decreases grader operation and maintenance costs i.e. fuel, blades, wear and tear and wages Offers an immediate return on your investment!
RM s & Owners Say RM of Deer Forks, Saskatchewan, Canada 4 years spraying w Ag Shield Road Side Peter Neudorf, RM Foreman says: We spray about 200 miles of roads per year, some roads we spray three or four times and save an average of two passes with our grader. Our grader costs and wear and tear are cut way down saving us time and money, plus we no longer fight with grass clumps and sod ridges on our roads, I certainly wouldn t go back to not spraying. We use the sprayer on our main grid roads, back roads and it also works great for fire control areas. We can spray in 45 km per hour winds and never have more than six inches of drift. The road side sprayer holds up really well, it s very easy to use and is a multi purpose product. It s really efficient, I m really blown away!
RM s & Owners Say RM of Chesterfield, Saskatchewan, Canada 1 year spraying w Ag Shield Road Side, 5 years spraying roads Bill Francis RM Councilor says: We have been spraying for five or six years and now with the shielded sprayer we plan to spray about 800 miles of roads. We spray three times per year which should save us two passes with the grader. Spraying makes its easier to grade, with no grass and weeds in the gravel we can feather it out. We used to have to leave everything in ridges which would contribute to washouts, we can now keep the road clean with no ridges. Spraying allows us to save on everything with the grader, including blades and wear and tear, it saves us money and allows for safe roads. It s fool proof, with the shield there is no drift, there is virtually no risk and we can spray right to the edge of a crop. It works great!
Additional Application Options
Why Spray Road Shoulders?
Tumbleweeds, volunteer grain and more Noxious weeds, volunteer grain from truck traffic, and the prolific seed producing Russian Thistle / Kochia are common road shoulder species that grow tall and need to be controlled. More frequent spraying maintains safety, wildlife visibility and limits seed production better than annual mowing.
5 ft - 2,4-D on Shoulder
Cost of Tractor with Mower Operation Using a 3 section mower with side arm on 150 hp tractor- covers 15 ft wide Cost per hour- $140- high machine maintenance 2.3 mph avg. speed = $ cost per 2 sided mile
Cost of Road Shoulder Spraying 2,4-D Application: $60.00 avg. per hour cost for truck and labor 15 mph avg. speed $8.00 per mile 2 sided application cost Chemical: 5 foot on both sides 1.2 acres at 32 oz active or 1.5 liters Amine 600 per acre. 2,4-D Amine 600 at $9/ liter $10.91 per mile $18.91 cost per 2 sided mile application & chemical
Mowing versus Spraying Road Shoulder $40,000 $35,000 $30,000 $30K $25,000 $20,000 $15,000 $10,000 $10K $20K Mower 2,4-D Amine 5 ft Savings $5,000 $1,891 $ Miles Note: Based on 100 (2 sided) mile average. Cost Comparison: Mower( blue) $12,000 less spraying(pink) $1,900 Savings: $10,000 (green) for one pass with sprayer compared to one pass with mower.
Why Spray Trees?
Trees Block Traffic Visibility On coming traffic or wide farm equipment would be a nasty surprise on this corner. Visibility can be greatly increased by managing tree growth.
Trees Hold Snow and Reduce Road Width for Wide Farm Equipment Snow will be held and plowing will need to be more frequent and slower, with little ditch available for snow storage. Road gets narrower each season with increased tree growth.
Trees cover road signs After these trees are cut, they will rapidly re-grow from the large root system unless the stumps are treated with herbicide.
1 End Nozzle- Low or High
2 End Nozzles Low and High
Cost of Tree Shredding & Grinding Equipment Average cost of $175 per hour and $525 per mile for shrubs and medium trees. Must be followed with a stump spraying program to avoid fast re-growth.
Cost of Spraying Ditch or Right of Way 2,4-D for broadleaf Application: $60.00 avg. per hour cost for truck and labor 15 mph avg. speed $8.00 per mile 2 sided application cost Chemical: 13 foot on both side Shrubs- trees less than 8 foot 3.15 acres at 32 oz active or 1.5 liters Amine 600 per acre. 2,4-D Amine 600 at $9/ liter $28.36 per mile Can double with heavy growth $36.36 cost per 2 sided mile application & chemical
Tree Cutting versus Spraying ditch/right of way $160,000 $146K $140,000 $120,000 $100,000 $80,000 $60,000 $40,000 $20,000 $24K $48K $97K Tree Shredder 2,4-D Amine 13 ft Savings $ Miles Note: Based on 50(2 sided) mile average. Cost Comparison: Tree shredder(brown) $26,000 less spraying(pink) $1,800 Savings: $24,000 (green) for one pass with sprayer compared to one pass with tree shredder.
