5 Depreciation continued What does all that mean???? Basically, when the vehicle costs you more than $37,000 annually, its it time to think about replacing it! Weigh out the costs in maintenance AND potential end value towards cost of new ownership.

11 Ancillary Purchase Options Trade in vehicles Great way to help reduce new apparatus costs - Gets older vehicles out of fleet without need for auction or selling outright with liability Prepayment discounts Most vendors will allow for prepayment and will include interest discounts back to purchaser to reduce overall cost of vehicle. Lease Purchase Options straight lease, turn in lease, etc.

12 Leasing Leasing offers the ability to buy now at today s dollar Offers typically lower interest rates Laws only require the annual payment to be shown on the books for the year instead of the full purchase. Lowers debt on paper. Establishes a known budget figure for years to come. Reduce putting off purchase for another year or so if you need to purchase. Current inflation rates of fire apparatus are approximately 3-4% per year. Flexible terms and payoff features Turn in leasing for different apparatus in future.

13 Choosing an Apparatus Vendor Manufacturer The manufacturer is the builder of the apparatus. Typically the manufacturer is the one who will produce the VIN for the apparatus. Examples would be Ford, Dodge, Pierce, E-One, Rosenbauer, etc

14 Choosing and Apparatus Vendor Dealer Licensed to sell in Texas by TXDMV Availability of parts and service History and age of dealership Prior Sales References Financial stability Insurance/bonding

15 Commercial Vehicle Uses a chassis from a vehicle manufacturer, IHC, Ford, Dodge, Upfits or builds a body/pump on that supplied chassis Provides all features to complete the vehicle for its desired use.

16 Custom Vehicle Manufacturer designs and BUILDS the chassis for use Completes all body/pump and aerial work as needed Provides all features to complete the vehicle for desired use

17 Demo/stock units Some manufacturers have Demonstrator or Stock units available. Vehicles typically are less than 2 years old. Never been owned Discounts for mileage or other reasons probably exist Quick easy way to get a vehicle as long as you are flexible with some option content.

25 Summary Know your needs Understand the type of vehicles and the capabilities of each DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is You get what you pay for! Look for good value not just cheap price Find a reputable vendor/manufacturer Use a sales representative you are comfortable with and can establish a relationship with. The apparatus will be around for a period of time.
