4 Introduction The split weigh operation in ClearWeigh provides a means of weighing a vehicle that will not physically fit onto a weighbridge. An example of this is a semi trailer (up to 18m in length) or B Double (up to 26m in length) vehicles trying to weigh on a 10m weighbridge. Split weighing allows the operator to perform a series of weighments that are added together to give the final weight for a weighbridge transaction. These weighments could be individual axles or groups of axles as in the case of a B Double truck. For example, the prime mover is used for the first weighment, the centre axle group is used for the second weighment and the rear trailer axle group is used for the final weighment. 5 Configuration Various parameters affecting split weighing in the Touch Terminal are on the Application Configuration screen. This is accessed by selecting Tools Setup on the Operator tab of the ClearWeigh Touch application. Enabling Split Weighing The split weighing operation needs to be individually turned on at each computer that requires it. Split Weighing is turned on by selecting the Enable Split Weighing option displayed in the Touch Terminal Configuration area. Enabling split weighing will affect all transaction tabs that are connected to a weighbridge. Split Weighing in ClearWeigh Page 3

6 Modifying Split Weigh Parameters When the Split Weighing option has been selected, the parameters affecting the Split Weighing operations can be configured in the Split Weighing configuration area. Weighment Steady Weight Time The time in seconds that the scale weight is required to be constant before a weighment is completed. Weighment Steady Weight Variance The weight variation permitted when checking for a steady weight. Normally this is zero but may be required in situations where it is difficult to obtain a steady weight. Split Weigh Position Detect Delta The change in weight required to detect the movement of the vehicle from one position to the next. Vehicle Detect Threshold The minimum weight required on the weighbridge before a weighing sequence can commence. Split Weighing in ClearWeigh Page 4

7 Maximum Time Per Weighment The maximum number of seconds allowed for a weighment to complete. A value of zero specifies no maximum. Log Split Weigh Events If enabled, diagnostic events about the split weighing operation will be recorded in the system log. Split Weighing in ClearWeigh Page 5

8 Split Weigh Operation The Split Weighing operation can be used on any permanent vehicle (vehicle already exists in the database) or on any temporary vehicle. When the Enable Split Weighing option has been selected (refer to above) and all of the weighbridge transaction details have been entered i.e. vehicle, customer, product and rate, a button will be displayed allowing the vehicle to be split weighed. This is shown on the Options page of each tab that is connected to a weighbridge. Pressing this button will start the split weighing process. Split Weigh Screens While split weighing the vehicle, the system displays a number of screens to allow the operator to control the split weighing process. Split Weighing in ClearWeigh Page 6

9 When a split weighing is commenced, the system will display the following screen and begin waiting for the first weighment to complete. The system will wait for the weighbridge weight to remain constant for the number of seconds configured as the Weighment Steady Weight Time. When this has been reached, the system allows the operator to continue the weighing. Selecting Cancel aborts the split weighing process, selecting Accept records this weight and proceeds to the next axle group. If required, selecting Complete will complete the weighing operation with the weighments recorded so far. Split Weighing in ClearWeigh Page 7

10 If the operator selects Accept, the system will begin waiting for the weight to change by the amount configured as the Split Weigh Reposition Detect Delta. This indicates that the truck has begun moving to the next position. When the system detects that the truck has begun moving, it will begin waiting for the weight to become steady again. This process continues until the operator selects Complete, or the number of weighments configured for the vehicle combination has been reached. When the split weighing has been completed, the system will complete the transaction with the total weight obtained. Split Weighing in ClearWeigh Page 8

11 Re-Using the Last Split Weigh In some cases, after a split weigh has been completed, the system may not be able to save the transaction due to incorrect data being entered. For example, the operator may have selected a product charge of Car, which may have weight restrictions applied. When the split weigh completes, the total weight will exceed the weight limit on the selected product charge and the system will display an error. If this occurs and the problem can be corrected (in this case, by selecting the correct product charge for the vehicle), the system will allow another attempt to save the transaction without requiring the vehicle to be split weighed again. If a transaction error occurs and the vehicle has been split weighed, the system will display the following prompt when the Save Split (or Split Weigh / Save) button is clicked a second time. Selecting Yes will continue the save with the previous split weigh performed. Clicking No will initiate a new split weighing process before attempting to save the transaction again. NOTE: The split weigh data will be retained until either the transaction save completes or the vehicle leaves the weighbridge. Clearing the transaction details will not remove the split Split Weighing in ClearWeigh Page 9

12 weigh information. This is intentional and allows errors in transaction data to be corrected by clearing the transaction and re-entering the details. Split Weighing Vehicles with Stored Tares When performing a normal (i.e. non-split) weighing of a vehicle with a stored tare, the system uses the weight on the weighbridge to determine whether or not the vehicle is loaded. If the weight on the weighbridge is within the tare range selected for the vehicle, the system assumes that the vehicle is unloaded and places the system into Tare Update mode. When split weighing a vehicle with a stored tare, the system is unable to use the weight on the weighbridge to determine whether or not the vehicle is loaded. This is because the vehicle is unable to fit entirely on the weighbridge. As a result, the weighbridge operator must select whether they want to save a normal transaction, or perform a tare update. When a vehicle with a stored tare has been selected, ClearWeigh displays a slightly different button in place of the regular Save Split button, as shown below. Split Weighing in ClearWeigh Page 10

13 Pressing the Split Weigh button opens up a second menu, which allows the operator to specify whether they want to save a normal transaction or perform a split weighing. Split Weighing in ClearWeigh Page 11

14 Clicking the Save button directs ClearWeigh to perform a split weighing and then save a regular transaction. If the total weight of the vehicle is within the vehicle s tare range, the system will display an error an will not complete the transaction. Split Weighing in ClearWeigh Page 12

15 Selecting Update Tare will initiate a split weighing, and then attempt to update the vehicle s tare weight with the total weight obtained. If the total weight is outside the vehicle s tare range, an error will be displayed and the tare will not be updated, as shown below. Split Weighing in ClearWeigh Page 13
