9 SECTION 1: LIMITATIONS 1-1. INTRODUCTION The Aeronautical Accessories External Hoist Kit XXX enables operations in areas where landing cannot be accomplished. The hoist can raise or lower loads up to 600 pounds (272 kilograms). An electrically actuated cable cutting device allows pilot to sever cable in an emergency. A manually operated cable cutter, accessible to the operator, may be used to sever the hoist cable if the electrical cable cutter should fail. The Hoist System has a three-sixteenth inch hoist cable with a usable length of 250 feet (76.2 meters). The Hoist System has a three-sixteenth inch hoist cable with a usable length of 290 feet (88.39 meters). The 4-Axis Hover Kit ( ) is an option available for the BHTI 412EP helicopter with the Search and Rescue (SAR) Interface Kit installed. With the 4-Axis Hover Kit, the Integrated Flight Control System (IFCS) interfaces with the External Hoist Pendant Controller to provide Hover Trim. This gives the hoist operator limited control of the helicopter during hoist operations TYPES OF OPERATION Hoist operations are approved for hoist loads up to 600 pounds (272 kilograms). See Hoist Loading Schedules. CAUTION Hoist shall not be operated when other components are loading the roof tiedown studs adjacent to hoist support assembly. Hoist operations must be conducted under appropriate operating rules for external loads. The external load equipment certification approval does not constitute operational approval; operational approval for external load operations must be granted by the local aviation authority. Hoist use approved for VFR only. Hoist operations are prohibited during instrument meteorological conditions (IMC). Hoist operations are approved only in hovering flight. The object being hoisted must be completely in the cabin before forward flight is established. October 20, 2016 AERONAUTICAL ACCESSORIES Page 9 of 31

10 1-3-A. PASSENGERS Passenger operations with hoist installed are approved if hoist system is deactivated and hoist cable stowed FLIGHT CREW Hoist operator must wear an approved safety harness and protective gloves during all phases of hoist operations. Hoist operator must be familiar with hoist operating procedures and limitations CONFIGURATION 1-5-A. REQUIRED EQUIPMENT Hoist cable anti chafing guard must be installed as follows: 1. 11 1-6. WEIGHT AND CENTER OF GRAVITY 1-6-A. WEIGHT Actual weight change must be determined after hoist is installed and ballast readjusted, if necessary, to return empty weight CG within allowable limits. Serial Number(s) Maximum gross weight (including hoist load) ,600 pounds (5263 kilograms) Subsequent 11,900 pounds (5398 kilograms) Maximum hoist load is 600 pounds (272 kilograms). This is a structural limitation only and does not ensure that longitudinal or lateral CG will remain within approved limits. Maximum allowable hoist load varies with gross weight, center of gravity, and hoist location. Refer to appropriate Hoist Loading Schedule. 1-6-B. CENTER OF GRAVITY Butt line of load on aircraft equipped with low skid gear is inches (1558 millimeters) from centerline. Butt line of load on aircraft equipped with high skid gear is inches (1659 millimeters) from centerline. Fuselage station of hoist cable centerline is inches (3305 millimeters) aft of datum. Select Hoist Loading Schedule appropriate for position in which hoist is installed. Enter schedule at helicopter gross weight prior to hoisting. Proceed vertically to intersect appropriate diagonal line representing number of crew members on board. Then proceed horizontally to the left to read allowable hoist load. The loading schedules labeled With Hoist Ballast represent allowable Hoist loads when 167 pounds (76 kilograms) of ballast is located at BL 40.0 left (1016 millimeters) to compensate for the moment of the Hoist kit installation. NOTE The Hoist Loading Schedules are based on the most adverse loading combinations of pilot, copilot, and hoist operator, each weighing 170 to 200 pounds (77.1 to 90.7 kilograms) and on a weight empty CG 0.5 inches to the right of centerline (+0.5) prior to adding hoist. If lateral CG is appreciably different or if crew member weights are out of this range, allowable hoist load shall be computed. For computation, assume hoist operator is located laterally at BL 40.0 (1016 millimeters). October 20, 2016 AERONAUTICAL ACCESSORIES Page 11 of 31

A FOULED CABLE MAY BREAK, AND THIS MAY RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH. HOIST switch UP. Ground speed Maintain zero ground speed until load is completely inside cabin. At completion of hoisting operation: HOIST POWER switch OFF. LIGHT CARGO LOADS WARNING HOIST LOADS MUST NOT OSCILLATE BEYOND LIMITS. IF NOT ARRESTED, INSTABILITY MAY BECOME UNMANAGEABLE. REELING IN AN UNSTABLE LOAD WILL AGGRAVATE OSCILLATION. 4-AXIS HOVER (HOVER TRIM CONTROL) For additional information on 4-Axis Hover (Hover Trim Control), refer to Bell Helicopter s Rotorcraft Flight Manual Supplement: Dual Digital Automatic Flight Control System, Search and Rescue (SAR) with PT6T-3BE and PT6T-3D Engines (BHT-412-FMS-39.3 & -39.4) and Honeywell s Integrated Flight Control System Pilot s Manual (A ). In order to use the Hover Trim function, the VEL HLD mode must be engaged. Once engaged, both the longitudinal and lateral Doppler velocity references are held automatically by the pitch and roll axes of the Digital Automatic Flight Control System. Pressing the VEL HLD button on the PC-700 Autopilot Controller actuates the VEL HLD mode. The pilot has control with the four-way cyclic beep switch with the plunger type button action. Pressing the center button once will return the velocity reference to zero. Once in the VEL HLD mode, pressing the HOIST EN switch on the instrument panel enables the Hover Trim. October 20, 2016 AERONAUTICAL ACCESSORIES Page 25 of 31

26 When the EN is lit, the hoist enable function is activated. The hoist operator may use the HOVER TRIM velocity beep switch to adjust the aircraft s lateral and/or longitudinal velocity (to a maximum of 5 knots over any pilot selected reference) to assist in guidance of the hoist cable. CAUTION When in VEL HLD Mode, selection of any flight director modes (pilot or co-pilot) will disengage VEL HLD. NOTE The Hover Trim function receives 28 VDC power from the AFCS and does not require the HOIST POWER switch to be ON for the pilot s HOIST EN switch to be operational. Select RAD ALT and VEL HLD modes on autopilot controller. CLTV-YAW TRIM UP and DN switch As desired. Select RAD ALT altitude as desired on AL-300. NOTE Below 100 feet AGL, pilot is required to have both hands lightly on controls to respond to engine failure or autopilot malfunction. Cyclic beeper switch Select VEL HLD direction and velocity. NOTE Press center of beeper switch to return hover reference to zero. If cyclic FORCE TRIM release switch is pressed, a new hover velocity reference will be established at the time of FORCE TRIM switch release. Pilot HOIST EN switch Press to enable limited hover control by hoist operator. NOTE Hoist operator has limited hover control by operating hover trim switch on hoist pendant in desired direction. Pilot may take hover trim control away from hoist operator by pressing HOIST EN switch, or simply by overriding hoist operator's inputs using cyclic stick or cyclic beep switch. The Pilot always has override capability. October 20, 2016 AERONAUTICAL ACCESSORIES Page 26 of 31

27 NOTE Helicopter can be flown up to 5 knots around the reference hover velocity established by the pilot. Pendant switch is held in a given direction until desired speed is reached, then released to capture that velocity. To return to pilot selected velocity, switch is operated in opposite direction until added velocity is zero, then released. AFTER EXITING HELICOPTER After last flight of the day, hoist maintenance action is required if the hoist has been used.
