PREMIUM BIN FINISH Meridian Manufacturing utilizes a premium enamel finish on all manufactured bins. The steps and procedures we implement throughout our entire production process helps to insure a high quality product. Our steel selection, equipment and welding procedures, virtually eliminate all dirt and splatter, the entire surface area, including seams are carefully pre-cleaned in preparation for Meridian s high quality finish. In our climate controlled paint booths, the bins are mounted to a special support stand that rotates the bin. All bins are thoroughly cleaned, dried, primed with an epon primer and finished with our high quality enamel finish. All bins remain in the heated booth until the exterior finish is completely cured. Some changes include design for various products and commodities, larger capacities and size selection, longer paint finish quality and safety concerns. CUSTOMER SERVICE Meridian s service starts before you purchase a bin by helping you select bins and accessories which best suite your current and future plans. Often custom design, orientation and colors are required and Meridian s sales team helps with those decisions as well. Once you ve made your purchase and your bins are ready, a Meridian driver will carefully load them and deliver them to your yard. 4 PREMIUM MULTI PURPOSE BINS Meridian s smooth-wall Multi-Purpose Bins are designed to be the most versatile, hopper bins available today. Used most often to store and handle fertilizer, grain, feed and seed, their versatility extends to coal, sand and any other free-flowing, dry granular commodity. PREMIUM STORAGE WITHOUT THE PREMIUM! Historically many farmers view the Multi-Purpose Bin as too costly for anything but fertilizer storage. The special pre-paint treatment allows for proper finish adhesion for many years of corrosion and abrasion resistance even with fertilizer storage. Two other versions of the premium Multi-Purpose "Fertilizer" bin are available. For commodities which won't flow consistently like a processed feed, a steep cone version may be required. (SHOWN ON PAGE 7.) For commodities like meals and powders which tend to bridge and hang up, Meridian s custom commercial tank may be required. For those extremely corrosive products and environments like salt, Meridian offers a variety an internal epoxy coating to ensure years of trouble free storage. In addition to storing all the dry flowable products of the Multi-Purpose series, these bins are designed, engineered and painted to store liquid fertilizer, water, and even honey. This is achieved by moving air of desired or selected properties through the grain to keep it from deterioration. Aeration may have different effects on stored grain, depending on the properties of the air and on the existing condition of the grain thus improving the storage conditions of your grain in different ways. The objectives to aerate may be defined according to its effects on grain: Reduce the temperature of the grain Equalizing temperature throughout the grain storage containment Prevent heating in damp grain Limited drying to maintain grain quality Air flow & volume are both very important in maximizing the effectiveness of grain drying. Conventional floor aeration systems only dry from the bottom up. Although effective in drying the bottom half, they often fall short of drying grain in the center and top half of the bin. Achieving and maintaining uniform air flow throughout a bin of grain is an important factor in drying grain effectively and efficiently. An aeration system can overcome common problems by: Forcing air into the center of the bin Providing a drying front that conforms to the grain Reducing static pressure Increasing fan efficiency up to 20% Reducing drying time by up to 50% Reducing operation costs Factory installed aeration systems are available for your hopper bottom bin from Meridian Mfg Group. 8 FEED BINS Meridian s smooth-wall Feed Bins are designed with feed safety and feed management in mind. The advantage of Meridian's smooth-wall design over other types of bins is very evident in feed storage. There are no bolts or ribs; the cone and side-wall surfaces are very smooth; the bottom cone is 55 or 60 degrees. These features combined into one bin helps ensures feed won't hang up or get trapped inside your bin causing spoilage and unnecessary expenses. (For capacities over 26 Tons, use the larger Steep Cone version.) These bins are built with 12 gauge construction, but feature a 55 degree bottom cone in capacities up to 222 tons. Feed bin capacities are based on 40 lbs/ft 3. All fertilizer bins, steep cone bins and liquid bins capacities are based on 62 lbs/ft 3. To select the most appropriate bin size for your storage needs follow these steps: Determine product density (lbs/ft 3 ). Convert the total tonnage being stored to lbs, then divide by the density. The result is the cubic foot capacity you require. Example You need to store 100 MT of urea fertilizer with a density of 48 lbs. 100 x 2204 = 220,400 / 48 = 4592 (Min. ft 3 required) Best model selection would be a 1620 or To calculate a bins holding capacity of a specific product, follow these steps: Determine product density (lbs/ft 3 ). Multiply the bins cubic foot capacity by the product density, then divide by Example Your fertilizer blend weighs 57 lbs/ft 3 and you're purchasing a model 1625 fertilizer bin. Model 1625 = 5851 ft 3 x 57 lbs = 333,507 lbs / 2204 = 151 MT. Your new 1625 will hold about 151 MT of your specific fertilizer blend.
