1- Introduction A World of Difference in Your Document Printing & Processing Center PureClean Web-Sweep systems utilize the "Source Capture" cleaning method to effectively scrub and clean paper dust, paper chad and static from continuous webs before feeding into your high speed digital printer. PureClean Web-Sweep systems come with universal adjustable support brackets to mount the Web-Sweep cleaning heads directly onto any unwinder, rewinder or fan-fold feeder so that the web is clean at the closest point before feeding the printer. The PureClean filtering unit is normally positioned next to unwinder, rewinder or fan-fold feeder. No additional space between unwinder, rewinder or fan-fold feeder and printer is need to accommodate the PureClean5.0.2 Web-Sweep. PureClean Web-Sweep systems are unique in the way they Source Capture contaminants from the web, since they do not use perpendicular vacuuming that attempts to lift off paper dust and chad from the web. This way of vacuuming, creates excessive friction on the web causing errors and malfunctions with printers and often need a power assist/urge unit whereas the PureClean Web-Sweep does not require one. PureClean Web-Sweep systems use our unique cross-lateral blasting technology. The high velocity air is drawn in laterally from one end of the Web-Sweep head, blasting across both sides of the web without added tension to the web. Paper dust and paper chad vacuumed from the opposite end and captured into the multi-stage filters of the PureClean unit with 99% efficiency. The continuous web passes through the Web-Sweep head that incorporates three upper and four lower agitator brushes. The adjustable upper and opposing lower brushes are offset from each other, effectively scrubbing the web without adding excessive tension on the web. Electronic anti-static bars are built inside and outside the Web-Sweep head assist in effective cleaning of the web and for neutralizing the web prior to feeding the printer. PureClean5.0.2 Web-Sweep Systems provide neutralized cleaner paper for optimum throughput, print quality and at the same time extends the life of consumables and wear & tear of the printers. 4
2-Setup & Installation NOTE: Installation must be performed by manufacturer s approved technician. 2.1 Remove carton from pallet and keep upright. Be careful not to damage contents when opening carton. Carefully remove top carton containing Web-Sweep head and place aside. 2.2 Carefully remove PureClean filter unit from carton keeping it upright. Inspect contents for hidden damage that may have occurred during transportation. If damage is found call transportation company to file claim and notify the manufacturer or dealer. 2.3 Carefully remove all protective plastic from unit, Web-Sweep head and remaining parts. 2.4 Custom brackets for specific unwinder ships with each Web-Sweep System. Install mounting brackets and Web-Sweep head onto designated unwinder. 2.5 Install PureClean filter unit with in 6 feet of Web-Sweep head. NOTE: Distance between Web-Sweep head & PureClean filter unit is limited to approximately 9 FEET do to the length of high voltage shielded cable. 2.6 Removes screws from gasketed flange of small hood. Mount the small hood on to the lid with the round hose connection flange so that it will point towards the installed Web- Sweep Head. Make sure to mount the hood in the proper direction so that when the 4 flex is installed hose remains as straight as possible. 2.7 Attach one end of the 4 flex hose with the hose clamp to the Web-Sweep head. Stretch hose, cut to length to eliminate excess slack and connect to hood. 2.8 Connect the anti-static bar shielded cable from the Web-Sweep head to the power supply and connect the ground cable to grounding stud on power supply. 2.9 Connect power cord to base of PureClean filter unit and plug other end into grounded 120 volt outlet Thread the web through the Web-Sweep cleaning head The agitator brushes in the Web-Sweep head are factory adjusted and should not need adjusting. PureClean Web-Sweep systems pass through quality control & are ready for quick installation. 5
3- Filter Replacement Schedule NORMAL FILTER REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE Every 2-3 months 35% Pleated Prefilter P.N. #PC-5101 (Top filter) Every 12 months 99% Main Cartridge Filter P.N. #PC-5102 (Bottom filter) CAUTION: PureClean Web-Sweep should be turned off when replacing filters. Replace the main cartridge filter with the expanded reinforcement metal facing down. 3.1 High printer volume or extremely dusty continuous forms may require the prefilter to be changed out more often than normal. When low air volume, low vacuum or diminished performance of Web-Sweep is observed may indicate the need to change out the prefilter. Prefilter should show signs of heavy loading of contaminants. 3.2 The main cartridge filter should be changed according to above NORMAL FILTER REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE due to deep loading of sub-micron & larger particles. NOTE: REGULAR SCHEDULED CHANGE OUT OF FILTERS ENSURES OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE OF PURECLEAN WEB-SWEEP. 6
4- System Preventative Maintenance PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE OF WEB-SWEEP HEAD 4.1 Monthly maintenance to the Web-Sweep head should be performed by removing accumulation of paper dust and chad on electronic static elimination bars and from agitator brushes. Pivot the Web-Sweep head open to get access to static eliminator bar and brushes. The hydraulic damper on the end of the Web-Sweep head can be popped off for easier access. A cleaning brush with nylon bristle should be used to keep the ionizing pins of the bar clean. Periodic use of the brush will prevent deposits from accumulating on the pins. The ionizing pins must remain sharp for optimum operation. A vacuum cleaner should be used to vacuum the brushes and and any accumulation of paper dust and chad within the Web-Sweep head. 4.2 Replace filters according to filter replacement schedule or customized schedule for your particular print center production. CAUTION: Points are sharp on the anti-static bars and may cause injury. CAUTION: Anti-static bars are shockless only when grounded properly. MONTHLY PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE OF WEB-SWEEP HEAD 4.3 Check to see if anti-static bars are working properly by using a non contact AC voltage tester that can be bought at Home Depot, Sears, Etc. The voltage tester will indicate that the anti-static bars are emitting sufficient positive & negative ions to effectively neutralize the web. The tester should flash or sound when held within 6 to 8 inches of the electronic anti-static bar. CAUTION: Turn off and unplug PureClean System Before Servicing. 4.5 Inspect high voltage shield cable connection and make sure ground wire is tightly secured 4.6 Check Web-Sweep Head alignment for proper inclination for optimum direct paper path. 7
5- Troubleshooting 5.1 UNIT DOES NOT TURN OFF WHEN SWITCHED TO OFF POSITION Rocker Switch is defective and needs to be replaced 5.2 UNIT DOES NOT TURN ON & SWITCH DOES NOT ILLUMINATE Make sure the power cord is securely plugged into the base of PureClean cabinet and the other end plugged into 120 volt power source with power Make sure the PureClean Web-Sweep is connected to a good power source Make sure the both ends of electrical cord fit snug into wall outlet & the base of unit. USE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ELECTRICAL CORDS ONLY! CAUTION: Disconnect and turn off unit when troubleshooting the following: Visually and manually check all wires, connections and wire terminal ends for good connections and for possible shorts. (Refer to schematic on page 10) With unit UNPLUGGED, use an OHM Meter to check for continuity on rocker switch between 2A & 3A and between 2B & 3B when switch is in ON & OFF positions. Rocker switch needs to be replaced if no continuity is found With unit UNPLUGGED and switch is in the ON position, check for continuity between 1A & 4A and between 1B & 4B. Continuity indicates that wiring is good and the motor needs to be replaced. PRIOR TO REPLACING MOTOR CHECK AGAIN TO MAKE SURE THERE IS PROPER VOLTAGE ACROSS 1A & 1B DOUBLE CHECK ALL WIRE CONNECTIONS. DO A BENCH TEST OF MOTOR IF NEEDED. 5.3 SWITCH ILLUMINATES & UNIT DOES NOT TURN ON CAUTION: UNPLUG UNIT AND REMOVE BACK COVER PLATE Try switching to OFF position, if the unit turns on go to section 5.4 page Visually and manually check all wires, connections and wire terminal ends for good connections and for possible shorts. (Refer to schematic on page 10) 8
5.3.2 With unit UNPLUGGED and switch in the ON position, check for continuity between 1A & 3A and between 1B & 3B. No continuity indicates that the rocker switch is bad and needs to be replaced. Good continuity indicates that the motor is defective and needs to be replaced. DOUBLE CHECK ALL WIRE CONNECTIONS AND DO A BENCH TEST. 5.4 ROCKER SWITCH STAYS ILLUMINATED IN ON & OFF POSITION Indicates wires leads 2A, 3A, 2B & 3B are installed incorrectly and requires that the lead wires be moved to correct terminals of rocker (Refer to schematic on page 10) Rotate rocker switch 180 degrees if necessary Rocker switch is installed correctly into cabinet when ON (-) position is on top and OFF (0) position is on the bottom. 5.5 LOW AIRFLOW Turn off unit to inspect filters. Replace dirty and clogged prefilter and/or main cartridge filter. (See Section 3- FILTER REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE) Check for obstructions or restrictions in ductwork and check for damage or leaks with units switched ON. Repair or replace any damaged hoses and/or ductwork. CAUTION: Disconnect and turn off unit when troubleshooting the following: Remove filters to get access to motor/blower Inspect blower for any internal and exterior blockage. Make sure the blower spins freely and replace motor/blower as needed. 5.6 WEB BREAKS OR TEARS EASILY First you need to confirm that the web breaks or tears easily is caused by the PureClean Web-Sweep. Prop open the Web-Sweep head to allow the web to move freely and turn on the PureClean Filter unit. Start printing again and if the issue persists stop using the PureClean Web-Sweep until the issue is resolved If the problem is caused by the PureClean Web-Sweep, investigate to see if there has been any new changes in stock. Some stock may be of poor quality or be defective. Check to see if anyone may have made any adjustments to to the Web-Sweep head. Check paper path and adjust Web-Sweep head to be in proper alignment angle position. Check Web-Sweep head for excessive wear of the agitator brushes. 9
5.7 ADJUSTING BRUSHES FOR OPTIMUM SCRUBBING OF THE WEB Adjustments should be made by qualified personnel Web-Sweep brushes are pre-adjusted at the factory for proper distance between the upper and lower brushes for maximum scrubbing of the web. However, adjustments may need to be made caused by normal brush wear. A manual test for drag and a visual inspection for brush wear need to be performed from time to time to ensure optimum Web-Sweep performance The test should be performed using your widest and heaviest continuous forms between splicing of continuous form or when in the standby mode. The PureClean Web-Sweep should be turned on. Thread the test continuous form through the Web- Sweep head, grip the middle of the form at the exit side of the Web-Sweep head. Slowly pull on the continuous forms evenly to feel the drag on the web. If you feel a medium pressure drag on the web, no adjustments need to be done. However, adjustments are necessary if there is virtually no drag, excessive drag or if uneven pressure or drag is felt on the form as you pull the form through the Web-Sweep head Low drag is found on the web? All adjustment is performed with the top four allen screws locate on the top side of the Web-Sweep head. Turn counter clockwise all four screws in 1/2 or 1 turn increments until desired drag on the web is achieved. This reduces the space between the upper and lower plates and create more scrubbing power. It is important to turn all screws evenly in order to maintain the upper brushes square with the lower brushes High drag is found on the web?. Turn clockwise all four screws in 1/2 or 1 turn increments until desired drag on the web is achieved. This increases the space between the upper and the lower brushes, thereby reducing drag. It is important to turn screws all evenly in order to maintain the upper brushes square with the lower brushes Uneven pressure is felt on the web? This indicates that the upper and lower plates are not square or level. The upper plate can be adjusted up or down by turning the two allen screws on both ends to increase or reduce drag. If necessary the top plate can be zeroed out by turning clockwise all for screws 2-3 revolutions at a time until they are bottomed out. Then turn each of the four screw 2-3 revolutions at a time counter clockwise, test drag and continue in 1 revolution increments until desired tension is achieved. 5.8 WEB IS NOT BEING CLEANED EFFECTIVELY See sections 5.5 and Schematic 10
