An external airframe inspection reveals no major items of interest for an airplane of this vintage. The airplane has minor soiling and bug spatter but appears to have been well maintained. Flight controls move freely and all doors and panels appear to fit snug against the airframe. The top hinge on the passenger door is slightly bent. The plastic cover for the right wing position light is cracked in multiple locations. A fiberglass reinforcement repair is present on the right wing fuel tank. While the integrity of this repair appears sound, the overall quality of the repair aesthetically speaking is poor (Figure 1). Slight bending of the sheet metal around the both aileron outboard hinges is apparent. A patch has been placed on the right side of the fuselage just aft of the wing trailing edge where the step used to exist. The outboard edge of the right hand ruddervator has a minor crease in the sheet metal. A small crack has been stop-drilled on the outboard lower-side of the left hand ruddervator. The tachometer was reset to zero on at 1764 hours AFTT and again on at 1850 hours AFTT. Therefore, aircraft total time is determined by adding 1850 to the time currently displayed on the tachometer. This can be further validated by referencing the airframe log entry from which reads Tach time 1951 hours on aircraft. A note next to this entry indicates time on tach 101 hours. 9 Exterior Paint Condition: Average TM Repaint Date: Repainted By: Ark Valley Aircraft Refinish, Inc. Comments: The aircraft is light blue overall with red accent striping. The upper fuselage is white. The paint is doing a satisfactory job of protecting the aircraft but suffers from age. The coating has been worn thin and is dull in appearance. Any sheen it once had has been lost. Chipping can be seen around the edges of the cowling, on the right wing-tip tank (Figure 4), on the left wing-tip fuel tank, and on the tail cone (Figure 5). Touch-up paint was noted on the leading edge of the right wing and on the right wing-tip fuel tank. Runs in the paint on the right wing-tip fuel tank are visible. 10 Interior Condition: Good Cockpit Condition: Good Pressurized Cabin: No Cabin Configuration: Passenger Panel Layout: Poor Window Condition: Good Comments: The interior is outfitted with a white Naugahyde headliner (Figure 6), dark gray Naugahyde glare shield, red Naugahyde seat covers with red cloth inserts, red cloth and Naugahyde side wall panels, and blue carpet. A white metal panel overlay and white metal trim complement the interior. Each of the four seats is equipped with a white Naugahyde covered sun visor and overhead air vents. Seat belts and shoulder harnesses are equipped with tan webbing. All coverings are in very good condition with only minor soiling and scuffing. The cloth on the front passenger seats has faded slightly due to sun exposure (Figure 7). Additionally, the piping on the back side of both front seats is torn. Both rear seats are in excellent condition (Figure 8). The carpet is in overall very good condition with only minor soiling apparent. The white trim paint has minor chipping in several areas. The rear window seals were painted white and are chipping. A large, externally accessible, baggage compartment is aft of the rear seats. 14 DAMAGE HISTORY Current Damage: None Listed Damage Event: Extent of Damage: Superficial Repairs: Right flap leading edge was repaired at station 45.0 (second rib from inboard end rib). Small hole and two cracks were located at front screw hole of flap actuator rod attach fitting. A larger patch was used to completely cover area under flap actuator fitting and to spread out load of persons using the step pad on the flap. Total length of hole and crack: Refer to FAA Form 337 dated for a complete description of repairs made. See Figure 9 for a picture of the repaired area of the right flap. Any aircraft over a half-century old will have its faults, and this aircraft is no exception. However, due to the attention and care it has received, the faults of this airplane are few. New paint, rework of several minor airframe blemishes, and updated avionics should make this aircraft serviceable for many years to come. It has undergone significant modification but has still retained the character of the original Bonanza. Documentation is complete and provides a clear picture of the maintenance history. The aircraft is stored in a covered, but not enclosed, hangar. This aircraft is a very unique in comparison to the rest of the Model 35 fleet. Thirteen Model 35 s were modified, at the factory, to become Model 35R s. All models remanufactured were either 1947 or 1948 model 35 s. The following excerpt is taken from the book, Those Incomparable Bonanza s, by Larry Ball: The program was begun as a customer service during 1951 for owners of the first model Bonanzas. The Korean War was causing delays and shortages in the procurement of materials for new C35 Bonanzas, and production was limited. It was felt this remanufacturing effort would provide a needed alternative. The modifications were extensive, and as a result a Model 35R has features and changes found in both the B35 and C35 Bonanzas. The tubular steel center section was not replaced as a part of the remanufacture. At hours, this aircraft is considered to have slightly below average total time. Average total time aircraft of this year, make and model is 6,180 hours, which breaks down to 103 hours per year. This aircraft has averaged just 85.9 hours per year. Since the current owner acquired the aircraft in 1988, the aircraft has averaged just over 24 hours per year. The aircraft has been flown regularly throughout its life except during the period from 1986 to It was during this time the current owner acquired the aircraft and put it through a refurbishment/rebuild process.
