Small parts, needed to install the system, are in a parts bag. To avoid loss of the small parts, keep them in the parts bag until you are ready to use them. Do not turn upside down, drop, drag or set on sharp protrusions. WARNING: This system is not intended for treating water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system. 3 Proper Installation This injections system must be properly installed and located in accordance with the Installation Instructions before it is used or the warranty will be void. Do not install or store where it will be exposed to temperatures below freezing or exposed to any type of weather. Water freezing in the system will break it. Do not attempt to treat water over 100 F. Do not install in direct sunlight. Excessive sun or heat may cause distortion or other damage to non-metallic parts. Properly ground to conform with all governing codes and ordinances. Use only lead-free solder and flux for all Introduction sweat-solder connections, as required by state and federal codes. WARNING: Discard all unused parts and packaging material after installation. Small parts remaining after the installation could be a choke hazard. The US Water ORP Booster system is a chemical injection system that injects chlorine during the backwash/rinse cycles. This system is intended to aid the Katalox Superfilter for contaminant removal. When the Katalox filter backwashes the ORP Booster system will inject chlorine at a fixed rate. This chlorine injection will boost/raise the ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential). This helps scrub the Katalox media when certain contaminants are not able to flush from the media during a regular backwash. 4 Chemical Solution Tank (with Pump) Installation Instructions 1. Install the chemical pump mounting bracket on the solution tank. Center the bracket on the back side of the tank. Install the two longer screws in the outer holes. Tighten all screws. 4

5 Chemical Solution Tank (with Pump) Installation Instructions 2. Install the chemical injection pump on the bracket that was installed on the tank using the screws taped to the bracket. 3. Drill a 1/4 hole in the top of the solution tank and install the tubing into the tank. 5

6 Chemical Solution Tank (with Pump) Installation Instructions 4. Install the weighted suction screen on the tubing that was inserted in the tank. Push the tubing down in the tank until the weighted suction screen is around 1 from the bottom of the tank. 5. Install the other end of the tank suction tube to the chemical injection pump inlet. The inlet is identified by an arrow point toward the pump. Be sure the sleeve is installed on the tubing properly. The beveled side of the sleeve should be facing the pump. Tight the nut hand tight holding the pump fitting. Do not use tools. Hand tightening will be sufficient. 6

7 Chemical Solution Tank (with Pump) Installation Instructions 6. Install a tee fitting in the water pipe for the injection check valve. This tee fitting should be installed in the Katalox filter inlet plumbing. The injection check valve has either 1/4 or 1/2 male pipe thread so the injection tee fitting installed should have a 1/4 or 1/2 female threaded port. Wrap the desired thread on the injection check valve with Teflon tape and install it in the tee fitting. Tighten the injection check valve hand tight then snug an additional 1/2 to full turn with channel locks or wrench. 7

8 Chemical Solution Tank (with Pump) Installation Instructions 7. Install a piece of tubing on the outlet of the pump. Be sure to orient the sleeve properly and hand tighten the nut. The outlet is identified by and arrow that is pointing away from the pump. 8. Install the other end of the chemical pump outlet tubing to the previously installed injection check valve. Be sure to orient the sleeve properly and hand tighten. 8

9 Chemical Pump Wiring Installation Instructions 1. There are connectors installed on the injection pump and on the backwashing Superfilter control valve. Connect the pump to the control valve using these connectors. 9

10 Chemical Injection Pump Start-up Instructions 1. Plug the chemical pump power cord into a continuously energized 110v outlet. The chemical pump should be set when the unit is shipped. It should be set to FLOWSWITCH and the percentage should be set on 50%. 2. If changes need to be made, the pump must be unlocked. If the pump is locked, push and hold the mode and the % percentage buttons at the same time and hold them for 3-5 seconds. The pump locked sentence will disappear. If STANDBY is on the screen. Push and hold the Mode and Stby buttons and STANDBY will disappear. 3. To change the percentage, press and hold the % button while using the up or down arrows to change the percentage to the desired rate. 4. Once the pump is programmed pour the supplied ORP adjustment chemical in the chemical tank. The chemical mixture procedure is as follows; ORP Reducer Chemical (Chlorine) Mix 2/3 cup of chlorine pellets to 1 gallon of water. Pour 2 gallons of clean water in a bucket. Pour in 2 2/3 cup of chlorine in the bucket. Us a broom stick handle to crush the chlorine pellets and mix in the bucket. Then top off the bucket with 2 additional gallons of water and mix will. Then pour the mixed solution in the solution tank. It is best to start out with 5-10 gallons of chlorine mixture until the usage frequency is determined. There is no need to make 30 gallons if only 10 gallons are used in a year. It is better to only mix enough for about 3 months of usage. This will keep the chemical concentration up. CAUTION! ORP adjustment chemicals are corrosive! Proper protection should be worn when mixing or handling these chemicals. It is recommended that protective clothing, gloves and safety goggles be worn when handling the ORP adjustment chemicals. Serious injury can occur from exposure to these chemicals. ALWAYS MIX CHEMICAL IN WATER NEVER ADD WATER TO RAW CHEMICAL. KEEP OUT OF REACH! 10

11 Chemical Injection Pump Start-up Instructions 5. Now push and hold the prime button until the pump pulls the solution from the container up to the pump and on to the injector. The level can be seen in the tubing as the pump becomes primed. Once it is primed, the pump is ready to use. The pump will operate during the backwash process. Proceed to the pump adjustment procedure. If the pump is not working see below. NOTE: If the pump is showing Standby, hold the MODE and push the STBY button to take the pump out of the standby mode. The display will not show Standby if it is normal operation. BE SURE to check that the pump is not in the Standby mode. If the pump is left in Standby, it will not operate during regeneration as intended. If the pump is Locked, it will need to be unlocked to make changes. If the valve is Locked, press and hold the MODE and % button at the same time for 3-5 seconds to unlock. The pump will only engage during the backwash process. It will run for the entire backwash and rinse cycles. Initial Backwash and Residual Chlorine Testing. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND SHOULD BE DONE BEFORE THE SYSTEM IS PUT IN SERVICE. NEGLECTING TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE COULD CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY AND PLUMBING DAMAGE! 1. Be sure the injection pump is on flowswitch 50%. Then start a backwash by holding the manual button on the backwashing filter control valve for 3-5 seconds. NOTE: If the control valve is locked, press the settings button for 3 seconds to unlock the control valve. 2. The chlorine injection pump should start and the control valve should advance to the backwash cycle. The chlorine pump will inject for the entire backwash cycle. 3. The control valve will advance to the rinse cycle and the chlorine pump will continue to run for the rinse cycle. 4. Once the rinse cycle is complete, go to a faucet close to the system and turn on the cold water. Allow the cold water to run until a chlorine smell is present. Then check chlorine level using the supplied chlorine test kit. 5. Repeat the test every 5 minutes for the next 20 minutes. 6. The highest chlorine level should not exceed 1 ppm. If there is an elevated chlorine level above 1 ppm, run the water for 20 minutes, then adjust the chlorine pump to 40%. 7. Repeat steps 1-6 until the residual chlorine level after the backwash/rinse cycles does not exceed 1 ppm. This initial adjustment process will ensure the system is being backwashed properly with the proper dosage and that the residual chlorine is not concentrated enough to cause personal injury or damage to the plumbing system. 11

12 Routine Maintenance Injection Pump The internal pump tube and injection duck bill check valve may need to be replaced periodically. They typically last 1-5 years depending on the usage. There is a spare tube shipped with the system and instructional videos explaining how to change the tube at Replacement duck bill check valves can be purchased at as well. Chemical Injection Check Valve The chemical injection check valve may need to be removed and cleaned periodically. In some cases, salt deposits can build on the chemical injection check valve inside the plumbing tee fitting. This check valve should be removed and cleaned. The injection tee should be checked for build up and cleaned as necessary.
